I am not saying that Catholics need to agree with my interpertations of the Scriptures. We all truly know in part, and by challenges by those who understand things differently within the body of Christ… we all grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. The OP link admits that Catholics in general are weak in Sacred Scripture and Protestants are weak in church history. So, both communites should learn from each other.
Aren’t you insisting Catholics need to agree with this interpretation, though? Suppose they don’t agree with you that you and your denomination have as much to teach Catholics as the CC has to teach you, since the CC was established by Christ and promised to persevere to the end. Suppose they also said that growing in grace through the forgiveness of sins, loving Christ and neighbor, and the Eucharist is how we really grow in grace. I think those are two fairly standard beliefs of Catholics that they will back up with the Bible, and they disagree with what you are saying.

Catholics and Protestants are in agreement that God the Holy Spirit illuminates the Scriptures to receive it. The difference is really about how the Holy Spirit works in our communities.
Very true. For instance, we Catholic’s have the promise of Christ that the Holy Ghost will abide with His Church, where as you Protestants have… I am sorry, what do you Protestants have?

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rustic Papist.

That’s an interesting perspective coming from a Lutheran Christian. I find your postings to be more hostile to Calvinists than Catholics which is only from my perception of your postings. I encourage all to disagree agreeably. There are dividing lines which makes us Protestants or Catholics. We can’t expect each other to cross that line in good conscience before God. If I believed what Catholics hold to be Catholic, then I would be Catholic. How can I embrace the Catholic view of the Eucharist when I am not Catholic. Even within the Catholic Faith, how many Catholics embrace the official view of the Eucharist within the Catholic Church? It is crazy to divide over the sacraments. We need to go beyond sola scriptura and Apostolic Succession in our discussions as Christians. Our common goal is to glorify God and enoy Him together as adopted children of God, regardless of our Christian communities that we belong to.

I think the Magestierum will say that the Holy Spirit works in the Protestant Churches too, correct?

No, I believe the Magisterium will tell you that the Holy Ghost may work through certain individuals who are members of Protestant sects, however, it does not abide the Protestant sects as a whole in matters of faith and morals. Yet even then, the Holy Ghost will always work to bring individuals closer to God and His Church.

Our common goal, perhaps, but not our common goal here, in a forum created with the intent to discuss differences between Catholicism and other religions/denominations.

I am thinking of becoming Catholic and I have a Reformed Baptist background, so you are right. I don’t mean to be hostile in any sinful sense but these are disagreements in which I think it’s safer for everybody as teachers on the right side and people in error on the wrong sides to disagree sharply and get to the meat of these matters. At the end of the day, some individuals here – and I am not for sure who they are – will risk not going to Heaven because of the church they are in. That’s why it’s so important to establish if one Church was established by Christ and which one today it might be.

We both agree that the Spirit is God is the 3rd person of the Godhead. Therefore, like the wind, the Spirit of God works according to His good pleasure. Who knows where the wind came from and is going? I do not limit the Spirit of God on how He works, but I believe the Holy Spirit is consistent with the revealed Word of God.

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." - John 3

Perhaps the Holy Spirit is not limited to blessing all denominations.

How come that I am not surprised that you are considering becoming Catholic? 😉 I wish you well in your personal pursuit of becoming Catholic. Here’s my perspective. If you are a Reformed Baptist, live to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. If you are a Lutheran, live to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. If you are a Catholic, live to glorify God and end enjoy Him forever. If you are on Catholic Answers, live to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, and help others do the same regardless of your Christian community. We really do not need to defend our particular theological distinctives, as if God needed to be defended. However, we can discuss our differences in a Christ-like manner so we can grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Adam if you think that the RCC do not agree that protetants have alot of truth in them, you are very misled. The RCC admires ALL FAITHS for the truth they have. And acknowledges the truth they do have.

But the Catholic CHurch does not claim to be the ONLY CHURCH with the truth.

The CC only claims to be the only church with the FULLNESS OF THE TRUTH.

Thats a big difference. By saying we have the fullness of the truth does not take away the truth other church’s have.

What’s your view of the remnant chosen by grace? There is an invisble church which is only known by God.
I never heard of that Adam. I only heard of the Church that Jesus Christ established here on earth and it is the CC. And it is as visible as the Sun, moon, and stars.

All Catholics need to be honest here. The Catholic Church makes a big difference with Protestants, calling them separated siblings in comparison to world religions such as Islam; Judaism, Hinduism, Mormons, etc. The Catholic Church does recognize a universal church within all of Christendom. She does get in quite a bit of hot water in being ecumenical with those outside of Christendom. Please study ECT 1 and ECT II and let me know what you think. The Catholic Church can consider having the fullness of truth just like the Orthodox Churches, however it does not mean that all Christians believe that claim. I think Catholics take it personal that Protestants do not agree with the Catholic Church as having the fullness of truth. We can’t believe something that we personally do not believe.

What do you mean the Church makes a big difference? The CHurch makes a true statement. Do you agree or disagee that w are separated in brothers with protestants?

When you make statements like “RCC admires ALL Faith for the truth they have. And acknowledges the truth they do have” I find that statement to be dangerous and unbiblical. I think statement are made by Catholic based on lack of biblical discernment on the essentials of the Christian faith. If you are not making a distinction of Protestantism from non-Christian Faiths, then you are missing the exclusivness of Christ and Him crucified for reconcilation to God as sinners. That is a little disingenuous. There is a remnant of Israel that will be saved. And there are professed Christians who will not persevere to the end. There’s nothing in the Bible about the “real” church being the invisible one and not the visible one established by Christ. If you will allow this analogy based on a parable: the Bible says that the tares remain among the wheat until Christ separates it. It never says the wheat remains among the tares.

Edit: goofed the analogy.

You know what Adam instead of worrying about them Catholics you need to worry about yourself.

And while you are at it you may want to hit

EPH l-22-23

The Church which Christ founded by his body etc.

I see now what the problem is. ITs not us Catholic’s reading the bible that is the problem. IT what you think the bible says and what CHirst is really teaching is where the problem lies.

Then you will have to take it up with the Pope because he said it. He said he respects all faiths for the truth that they teach.

His words were more in the line of by the witnessing to those moral truths when they hold in common with all men and women. He was talking to all faiths.
