That is a little disingenuous. There is a remnant of Israel that will be saved. And there are professed Christians who will not persevere to the end. There’s nothing in the Bible about the “real” church being the invisible one and not the visible one established by Christ. If you will allow this analogy based on a parable: the Bible says that the tares remain among the wheat until Christ separates it. It never says the wheat remains among the tares.

Edit: goofed the analogy.
The remnant (elect, chosen, saint, etc) is found right at the beginning of redemptive history, throughout redemptive history, and the very end of redepmtive history with Jesus dividing the sheep from the goats at His 2nd coming. Do you agree that humanity is divided into two humanities?
  1. Old humanity (in Adam)
  2. New humanity (in Christ)
Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ. Not even those who are circumcised obey the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your flesh. May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation. Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, even to the Israel of God. - Paul

Then you will have to take it up with the Pope because he said it. He said he respects all faiths for the truth that they teach.
I’m catholic, but I’m not Catholic; therefore, I don’t have to renconcile all that the Pope teaches with Scripture. 😉

You know what Adam instead of worrying about them Catholics you need to worry about yourself.

And while you are at it you may want to hit

EPH l-22-23

The Church which Christ founded by his body etc.

I see now what the problem is. ITs not us Catholic’s reading the bible that is the problem. IT what you think the bible says and what CHirst is really teaching is where the problem lies.
Please go back to the OP. It is a Catholic who wrote the link on the OP which he exhorts Catholics to read their Bibles. 🙂

Sorry Adam you are not Catholic if you do not accept the teachings of the CC. You co ntinue to claim you are Catholic but if you do not follow the teachings of the Church its impossible to be Catholic.

You either obey the church or you do not. If you do not obey the church you are not Catholic. Sorry.

His words were more in the line of by the witnessing to those moral truths when they hold in common with all men and women. He was talking to all faiths.
Can those in the flesh please God according to Scripture?

I’m not claiming to be Catholic; I am simply catholic.

Ah, I thought you were talking about the remnant of Israel. You’re talking about the saints, the ones who are baptized into the Church and persevere to the end. Forgive me if I am wrong about you, but don’t you think that the outward church we’re in is not correlated at all to whether we’re members of the invisible church? That isn’t in the Bible.

I think you need to go back and read the link. Especially the part thats says not to read the bible without the teachings of the Church to help you understand it,😛

Well, that’s a Catholic exhorting Catholics to read their Bibles. It must be hard for Catholics to juggle Sacred Scripture with Sacred Tradition. Now be honest, that is the truth. When you have personal time to read the Scriptures, how do you know that your understanding is consistent with Sacred Tradition? Do you read the Bible alongside the Catholic Catechism? So, how does a Catholic Christian actually read his Bible on a practical level?

:juggle::juggle:

It’s a balancing act juggling Sacred Scripture with Sacred Tradition… just having fun with my Catholic siblings. 😉

And I cannot simply see it:rolleyes:😛
There is a difference between being Catholic and catholic. Reformed Christians embrace the Apostles Creed too!

Christians can be

Catholic catholic

or just

catholic.

Sure it is, but not impossible. We have the Church. If you get a good Catholic study bible its pretty easy actually.

BUt I do agree with the Catholic who said we need to do it more. Yes I do agree. We do not have the time or take the time thats true. BUt you have no right to say that we do not do it.

What about the MONKS are they Catholic. How many hours a day do they concentrate on scripture.

But you think it hard to juggle SS with Tradition. How about impossible to understand it without Tradition. Now thats what I am talking about.

How do you possibly think you can understand SS without Tradition when you don’t have it. Now that I would love to have a answer to!

No there is not Catholic Catholic or Catholic you read the Creed.

There is ONE HOLY CATHOLIC APOSTOLIC CHURCH. Not catholic catholic or just catholic. Try again Adam. You either go by the creed or you don’t, But you have no right to change it. No right at all.

I don’t think that I ever posted that Catholics do not read their Bibles. When I was in college 29 years ago, my college roomate was Catholic. He read his Bible and I actually attended Mass with him. He actually encouraged me to read the Bible with him. I attended a Nazarene Christian college, but was not really a Christian in college.

The Apostle’s creed has a small “c” in the word catholic. 😉

The Apostles’ Creed

The basic creed of Reformed churches, as most familiarly known, is called the Apostles’ Creed. It has received this title because of its great antiquity; it dates from very early times in the Church, a half century or so from the last writings of the New Testament.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting.

Amen.

:D[SIGN][/SIGN][/SIGN]

But I think you did:confused::p:D
It helps to give me the post number to see what I posted in context. It was not my intention to imply that Catholics never read their Bible. They just need to read the Bible more often. I think the OP link written by a Catholic is saying the same thing. How much Bible reading do you personally do during the week?

But where did they have the authority to change the Apostles Creed? Who wrote it the reformed Church or the Apostles. SO you either go by the Apostles Creed or the reformed Church’s Apostles Creed right? Bottom line Adam its says THe Holy Catholic Church there is only one. You must remember the number ONE. There is only ONe God and he had his Apostles establish ONE church led by ONE HOLY SPRIIT. One Bread One Body One Christ One God. ITs all one.

Now I gotta go, but while I am gone. How about finding me this invisible Church Gods hiding from us? You said I need to learn the bible. So how about showing me it. I don’t wanna miss somethng. OR could it be its not in there?

In the Greek and Latin versions, too? 😉

When Reformed recite the Creed, they mean different things at several places. What is the Catholic Church? What is the forgiveness of sins? What does born of the virgin Mary mean? What’s the communion of saints? See, the Creed is a summary of faith and there are a lot of assumptions behind it. So while you may recite the same words, it’s not quite correct to say you recite the same creed and are therefore Catholic in the sense that you share one Faith.
