And one of the doctrines of the Catholic Church and one of its Traditions is that Scripture is inspired!

This is a doctrine and tradition that non-Catholics borrow from Catholics.

However, many liberal modernist Protestant theologians are now doubting the inspiration of scripture. In doing so, they are discarding this doctrine and tradition of the Church, just as Protestants have discarded other doctrines.
There are Catholics who are just as liberal as the liberal Protestants. I guess the Catholic Church can just ex-communicate them, so they are no longer Catholic at the point. Protestantism doesn’t work the same way. All churches are a mix of sheep and goats.

What’s up with you with the Apologetics section? Have your buddies over there join us over here. 😉 IMO… those with an Apologetic mindset cause more division than unity in the body of Christ.
NIce excuse. What is “an apologetic mindset” anyway?
Apologetics: the branch of theology concerned with the defense or proof of Christianity.
When you defend your Christian faith to that of other faiths, which is what you are doing here, you are practicing apologetics. Therefore you are causing your own said disruption.

His “buddies” often do come over here, he’s one of them. All they’re doing by staying over there is not confusing the organization of the forum. Which is what you’re doing by the way. Which is slightly disrespectful.

How many people do you think are going to read your links? They’ll assume rather that the Pope believes in “faith alone” as expressed by the reformers which he doesn’t (so this is the problem), furthermore, Catholics should know we are justified by faith and works which is the equivalent of saying “faith working in love”. Personally, I find it misleading to write we are justified by “faith alone” (which is why some Protestants believe in OSAS and deny the sacraments) as it does not correctly express who we are as Christians. Martin Luther should have left well enough alone.
That’s a really sad comment about my links. One link is from Pope Benedict, and the other link is from a Catholic Professor. That are Catholic sources. Maybe the subject of justification by faith alone is too much to handle for most Catholics. I’m glad Pope Benedict is very ecumenical.

:banghead::crying:

I’m trying to say this with patience because we’ve been getting along better. Do you understand that it’s possible that, even though you posted the entire link, you do not understand what he was saying? Posting the entire link does not make your understanding of what he was saying correct, does that make sense? Does it make sense that Catholics knowledgeable in their faith would have the necessary information to better understand what Benedict was saying and therefore be able to correct you?

No, you miss the point that you are misunderstanding what the Pope is saying. Your refusal to accept that you could be wrong in your understanding of the Pope’s words (again, posting the entire piece does not make your understanding correct, I don’t know where you get that idea) is what makes you seem so condescending and arrogant.

Yes, Catholic theology is the best stuff actually. But the Pope was not mentioning the doctrine of sola fide in a positive light, but correcting the false doctrine within it (whatever different definition a Protestant may have of it). If that definition rejects the necessity of good works done in faith through grace in justification, then it is incorrect. I’m not saying this again so read it really really well please.
We all know that Catholics read my two links with Catholic glasses, and I read my two Catholic links with Reformed glasses. I’m not trying to make you wear my glasses to read the two Catholic links. They are great teachings which all Christians should read regardless of what shade of glasses that you wear. I think you will find many ex-Protestants who are now Catholics that can be very insightful in what they write.

This is pretty relativistic of you. Didn’t expect that of you at all.

Small modification…

The head has 20/20 vision and the body does not.
The head and the body are not separate. The head does not exist without the body, the body does not exist without the head. The head makes sure the body follows that that 20/20 vision, as it is completely united to the body. Therefore, the body, being completely and perfectly united to the head, has 20/20 vision :).

I believe the OP link author about Catholics need to read their Bible, and the Catholic college professor link, and the leader of ECT from the Catholic side were all once Protestants who are Catholic. Heck, Scott Hahn, and other Catholic Answers apologists are ex-Protestants.

Please give me your understanding of the body of Christ. Do you see me to be part of the body of Christ too?

OK-Ive read my Bible-now what?
Hearing and Doing the Word

19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. - James 1

Adam I have read both links and they are great teachings. I am somewhat raised child Catholic. Never much training there. Went to Protestant Church,(Baptist, Assembly of God) for over 30 years of my life. I am now back at CC, am happy there as i was in Protestant Churches. The name on the door doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t have Jesus in you heart!!! I respect you and your posts.Cause I know that you love Jesus in your heart and thats what is important. God Bless you as you continue on your journey with our Lord:thumbsup:

The apologetics section is for the discussions we have been having over here. You are questioning Catholic teaching and looking at the Catholic Catechism and quoting the Pope. The Apologetics section is specifically for those questions. It’s also full of very very very knowledgeable Catholics, which is why I think you’re a little scared of going on over there.
Please invite them over here so we can grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ together as brothers and sisters in Christ. Some people stuck on apologetics don’t like unity, maybe because of the remaining flesh in all of us. We all like to think that our brand of Christianity is better than the next guy. I’d rather have conversations which grows our affection and love for our Triune God, regardless of being Catholic or Protestant!

The Law and Sin

7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. 11 For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

13 Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.

21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. - Paul

Nice cut n paste but so what? I mean you said read my Bible-my bible contains more than 5 verses.

I have-probably more than you. In fact this week I am reading and studying the Book of Wisdom. Would like to discuss that?
Maybe you have and thats a good thing. I have spent 8 years teaching Bible study and I don’t know it all and if you do then:thumbsup:

Keep sharing sister, you are dearly loved by both Catholic and Protestants alike. There is only one body of Christ which Christ rules.
