Catholics never speak well of one another

Thanks Tom. I am heartened by your post.
Some time ago I heard an Irish bishop claiming his responsibility was to all who were baptized Catholic in his diocese, I agree with him.
Many Irish Catholics do not attend Mass, but there is something of Christ in them. In some Irish parishes less than 2% of Catholics practice. It is difficult for those who love and try to serve the Church to hang on. That is why your post meant so much to me.
How did you vote in the abortion referendum?

I am somewhat taken aback by your question.
Of course I did not vote in favor of abortion. Also in the Same Sex Marriage referendum I did not support SSM. We all should follow our consciences and I am clear what way I voted, and would recommend others to vote.
Over the years we have had many referendums on moral issues in Ireland and in these I campaigned for the vote to follow the right path, supporting life and the family.

And, let’s not forget that we had a Catholic president in John F. Kennedy.

I also see that Mr Trump said: 'I am strongly pro-life, with the three exceptions – rape, incest and protecting the life of the mother.

Does this mean a a Catholic cannot vote for Mr Trump.?
That was the best option there was and there is strategic value in compromising for a while.

Many of your posts give me the impression that you fall in the ‘Personally pro life but’ camp.

Glad to know I was wrong.

Yet you expect those of us in the US to vote for politicians who support these things in the name of Catholicism?

Life is complicated.
I expect the Catholic vote to be split evenly in the upcoming election. I believe in defending my own religion and respecting other people’s religion. Like the pope I try not to judge others - ‘who am I to judge’? I never claimed one should vote for either Trump or Biden.

I would hope Catholics, and all people would be pro-life, but I respect the right of others to follow their consciences in good faith.
We are in Holy Week now, so let us turn away from conflict and rejoice in the coming of Easter.
