Aaron, I know a lot of these people. Many would return home if they could. Or they would stay there if they could get work and not come here at all.

And I don’t mean we should invade those countries for heaven’s sakes, but we could do more to make it possible for people to make their lives in their own countries. We’re not doing that.
Melanie, name for me one other country that has given, thru Charities and Foriegn Aid more than the U.S.?

It is more blessed to give than to receive and it is also more blessed to earn a living through hard work than to stand around waiting for handouts.

People need a chance to maintain or regain their dignity through gainful employment. Most of the factors leading to their unemployment lie in the with bad government, business and international trade policies.

So your saying that gives “PEOPLE” the right to invade another country, violate that countries sovereignty, violate that countries laws, steal from that country?

What I have been saying is that the aid we give needs to be oriented towards assisting Mexico in developing their own economy which would remove the incentive to leave the country. Most Mexicans I know, even legal ones, that are my age (baby boomer) plan to return to Mexico some day. The younger generation does not plan to return. But if there were jobs, education, and an opportunity for them there, they would stay. That’s where the assistance needs to be directed.

Forcing people out of their homes is generally not thought to be a good idea. But for the poor Mexican immigrant, it seems to be OK with many people. Have them come here and be exploited. To me, the best assistance we can give is that which allows them to live and work in their own country.

In the meantime, don’t carry your social security card in your wallet. All you need to have happen is your wallet stolen and you too could be the victim of “identity theft”.
This never occured to me. I’ve been carrying it in my wallet for 25 years!

Just put it in my safe:thumbsup:

That’s right! Unless someone asks to see it when you are seeking employment, it’s nobody’s business but yours.

You also do not utter it out loud on a wireless telephone. Getting a new credit card? Apply for it using a land line ~ you know the old fashioned kind that has a cord to the wall. Otherwise, the number could be intercepted.

I believe I’ve answered that question multiple times in this thread. That posters continue to pose it speaks to an unwillingness to listen/read.

From the dawn of history, man has moved (borders notwithstanding) to wherever survival and prosperity beacons. This has been true for every generation, every country and every age - it is not likely to change. Indeed with the globalization of world trade, this migration is likely to increase, not decrease. No country is a closed capsule and indeed there probably isn’t a single developed country that historically did not prosper from forays into the territories of others or somehow ‘violating’ another’s sovereignity.

Ultimately, the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.

So we should protect our borders. Good point.

There are these things called property rights. Allowing illegals to come to our country and benefit from the welfare state is stealing from taxpayers. Enough of that goes on already.

Then allow them to come legally and pay their way, because the fact is, legally allowed or illegally secreted in, they will continue to come. This is not about countries and borders, this is about a cycle of the human psyche that is as old as Adam: survival, self improvement, building a legacy for one’s children. The way it’s happening now is not right, so let’s make it right…grant legal residence to those who seek to work and let them pay health insurance, taxes and social security…It’s really that simple, no welfare, no stealing, no handouts, no exploitation - legal, dignified labor.

Deal.

The point that no one is paying attention to is that, under current immigration rules, those that are coming here illegally have virtually no hope of coming here legally.

It’s all very nice to say “they should come here legally” or “they should follow the law”. But they don’t because the current law is an impediment to their goal of coming her to get work. Am I saying the current law is wrong? No. I’m just saying what the law is. (So please don’t attack me for simply telling the truth!)

It may be nice to say that people should follow the law, and it’s a good chance that if these people could apply for LEGAL immigration, they would do so. But the fact is they have no chance of being accepted legally. So they take another route, even if it is illegal, because that is all that is available to them.

No one talks about this little fact when discussing immigration, but current law only admits close family members and persons with specialized skills. The vast majority of illegal immigrants would never qualify under either category.

When you are addressing these issues, it helps to have all the information. I don’t pretend to have it all, but I have at least given a brief overview.

Exactly the point I made several posts earlier. People come here illegally driven by the pressures previously mentioned, because it is not possible for them to do so legally. So we need to give them a legal way of residing and working - this does not have necessarily have to be permanent or involve the granting of citizenship. All they really seem to want is work, what’s the harm in giving it - legally?

You sound like an anarchist. You compare the Barbarian invasions of Europe with the Mexican invasion? You do understand that the purpose of a controlled immigration policy is to allow the absorbtion and assimilation of new canidate citizens into the American melting pot.
This prevents the undue strain on the infrastructure.

There’s also, on an aggregate level, the issue of fairness. The Mexican Government is corrupt and ineffectual. The country has a few that are rich and many that are poor and not much in between. And very little is done for the poor. Public education stops after 9th grade, opportunity is virtually non-existent.

Instead of fixing their own country, Mexico is out-sourcing their poor, uneducated (and in some cases, criminal) population to the US. Rather than dealing with their own problems, they give it to the US taxpayer to solve. This is simply not fair for the government of one country to shove their problems on to the people of another country.

Sure, on a person to person basis, any one of us would jump to feed the hungry, help the person in need, etc. But this is a POLICY of the government of Mexico to get rid of, or at least reduce the numbers of, their underclass as a group. They’ve even found government-printed pamphlets telling Mexicans how. That’s just wrong.

Which Barbarian invasions of Europe? That never crossed my mind. Read your history my friend; there is no need to go back that far. Familiarize yourself with European colonization of the globe and the plundering of natural resources that were not rightfully theirs (not to mention the creation of artificial borders that would not naturally have arisen otherwise).

I’m not promoting invasion of any country, just stating a reality of human existence: people move where opportunity for betterment exists - any way they can. Rather than fight that (something as feasible as emptying out the oceans), it’s more practical to regulate this movement fairly. Any policy that automatically excludes the most needy, is doomed to fail.

Do I become an anarchist by reminding people that ultimately everything comes from God? Xenophobia ill becomes Christians, particularly when one considers what the ethnic makeup will be like in heaven.

By the way, read my post: I am not advocating granting citizenship to all who come - just legal employment.

Oh for the love of Heaven:rolleyes: Sorry but God doesn’t condemn anyone for going against the United States. Hell, abortion is legal here. That’s a crime against God in and of it’s self.

Futhermore, I suppose you (and a few other people here) do not recall the Fugitive Slave Act in the 1800s. To me it’s quite a throwback from that period, Slaves were also not citizens, illegally trying to flee from the South into the North and eventually Canada, sound familar? The situation in Mexico is not much better then the South in the 1800s. Many of these illegals support families on the minimun wage they earn here.

So many of you are against illegal immigration on the basis because your tax-payers and it hurts you. But boy, I’m sure most of you know where your next meal is coming from.
Agreed. We should put our faith, and other people before all else. That’s all it comes down to.

I HAVE READ MY HISTORY SONNY BOY. And you did refer to ancient European history, or you seem to be referring to it.
