Catholics posting public messages not in keeping with Church

I’ve started challenging some friends on stuff like this, mainly because so many of their non-Catholic friends think it’s “awesome” that either so-and-so is such an open-minded “Catholic,” or because some take it as a sign that the Church either has or is considering changing Her teachings on some things. I haven’t been unfriended yet, but at least one friend has cut back on posting her non-Catholic Catholic beliefs.

Catholics espousing abortion was on full display on national TV with the DNC convention. Caroline Kennnedys whole speech was on abortion while not one high rank catholic called her out on it. Where is the leadership??

God sais that whoever is guilty of breaking one part of the law is guilty of breaking it all. You could feed the poor for the rest of your life, come judgement day that will not make up for abortion and homosexual marriage.

Now Catholics call it free will, countries call it the freedom of speach. IOW these people who post on facebook have the right to make these statements.

I must be old beyond my years because although most of my peers are on face book, I find it to be the most ridiculous thing in the world. I am really getting concerned that if I keep refusing to join, I may have to end up living by myself in a cave but that is another story. But in the end, I will never understand someone who post bold statements on FB even ones that support church teaching nor will I ever understand people who get upset by these posts

But… if one is going to participate and if one is asked point blank ‘do you like this picture of a homosexual marriage’, then one has the right to answer ‘no I don’t, if my answer offends you with all due respect you shouldn’t have asked’

Don’t worry about that…my husband is 29 and has never had a Facebook and will never have one. He admits his life might be a bit easier if he did have one (he could exchange fun youtube videos with his buddies and find some of his old army friends) but it hasn’t convinced him.

I’m 28 and I had one for about a year because it was the easiest way to keep in touch with my Air Force friends that were located all over the world…plus it had Tetris and I’m obsessed with Tetris.
I go rid of it for a few reasons but namely because of a small feud that started within my husband’s family. I wasn’t involved but his family started to involve me. He asked me to get rid of Facebook and I did…because it wasn’t healthy for our relationship.

OP just stopping by here to thank everyone for their responses to my questions. I decided to try something that I feel is fair and true, posting the Vatican’s own teachings on particular subjects verbatim on my FB page and not directing the message at anyone in particular.

I also posted a beautiful Annunciation art work by Del Sarto, “thanking God for the timeless teachings of the Church,” and coincidentally, the wonderful message from Cardinal Timothy Dolan of NY, regarding how the “Church does not need to keep up with the changing times, but the world needs to embrace the timeless truths and teachings of the Church.”

In this way, I am simply submitting my own free will to the teachings of Holy Church, and sharing those teachings by quoting them. The Art work is beautiful and welcoming. It’s up to others to realize that they are free to have their own opinions, but that Catholics follow Catholic teachings. This also lessens any confusion that people outside the Church may have had after viewing postings by others who defy Her teachings.
Blessings,
Kathryn Ann

I love the Church because it DOESN’T follow the changing times even though it is quite familiar with them. Following the crowd isn’t counter-cultural because any old dead fish can do that. It takes moxie to go against the flow.

I agree, LegoGE1947!

I think one should consider that people really and truly believe the way they are posting — just like you do. So keep in mind that whatever message you send them might be received as well (or not as well) as one of them sending you a message that you find repugnant, or otherwise against your beliefs and values.
Wise words.
