"Local Catholics are mourning the death of baseball manager Sparky Anderson, who became a baptized Catholic as an adult, the Archdiocese of Detroit said tonight.

In Chicago, I used to see Bill Veeck limping to church on his prosthesis. His widow still attends in my parish.
