Catholics regard Muhammad as a prophet??

In a recent edition in the “West Tennessee Catholic” newspaper, it had an article covering a Muslim & Christian Forum at St. Augustine Church.

There were 3 Christians and 3 Muslims. The three Christians were the pastor at St. Augustine’s, a Presbyterian Liberation Church Pastor, and a pastor at a “Church of Human Development”.

So in this article, there is the following sentence:

So I’m a little confused…

Muslims - Does the Islamic faith regard Jesus as the Messiah?

Christians - Does the Christian faith regard Muhammad as a prophet?

I’ve never been taught that I should regard Muhammad as a prophet, and I’ve been a Catholic for a year. What else do I need to know?

Of course, I realize the mix of panelists on both sides could have contributed to a bad dissemination of information.

Some in the Vatican seem to regard the Koran as inspired (I found that opinion an article in the magazine “Inside the Vatican”; unfortunately that was a fair while ago, so that is all I remember.) IIRC, the opinion was that of a Catholic specialist in Islam.

It’s conceivable, I suppose - but it would be difficult to claim that the entire Koran is inspired, unless one were to use the word rather loosely; everything depends on what is intended by those who speak in this way.

Muhammad was a destroyer of Christianity, as his “revelation” inspired the destruction of the Christian world from North Africa through the Middle East and beyond (Mindanao, anyone?). To regard him personally as anything other than an anti-Christ is wrong. If certain specialists within the Vatican want to disagree, that is fine, but unless there is some sort of dogma defined regarding the acceptance of his “prophethood”, I don’t see any reason to disagree with history. And should any such proclamation ever come, I will leave Catholicism. (I am not kidding. Muhammad is not a prophet of anything other than Islam, and Islam is incompatible with Christianity where it counts: belief in Christ and salvation by the holy blood and body of the one and only begotten Son of God.)

And yes you’re right. If you’re Catholic (or any Christian for that matter), you cannot believe Mohammed was a prophet.
**exoflare, quite a difficult job to accept a man (Jesus) as a god but not accept a simple man as a prophet. I do not know who told you that Jesus was god? Was it Jesus himself who told you that? Quite unbelievable thing.

I feel that those people (the panel of six) were quite sensible in some way to believe that Jesus was the masiha. Quite right thing. And they were right to say that Muhammad was a prophet of God. What harm is there. It is the best policy.

Muslims do believe that Jesus was the Masiah, i.e. the promised Masiha of the Jews. And Satan never came near Jesus and his mother.

You people have many odd beliefs. But we Muslims do not have anything bad against Jesus and his mother and his apostles. There are only good words of praise for all of them in the Quran. Catholics should regard Muhammad as a prophet.

For my part, I do not believe that Jesus was a prophet. No, He is the Second Person of the Trinity, God, and the Lord through which all things were created. By the way, that is, not coincidently, exactly what the Catholic Church teaches.

However, I do believe that Muhammad was a prophet; a false prophet. Not coincidently that perspective is consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
**I am surprised. Who told you that Jesus was god? Did Jesus tell you that? And do you believe him? Why do you believe him while you reject many other good things.

Prophets had been appearing in the world since a very long time and Jesus was not only a prophet (messenger) of God but he was a great prophet and the last one in the line of all Israeli prophets starting from Jacob son of Issac.

Jesus was just an Israeli prophet and the promised Masiha of the Jews. But Jews rejected him. He was actually under the command of Moses a.s. just like other prophets appeared after Moses. They were all preaching Torah and so did Jesus. I hope you will all understand these things.**

Yes he was a prophet…

A false one…
Who told you that? Is it written in the biography (gospels) of Jesus that Muhammad is a false prophet? Surely not. So you should not make up things yourself as you made a god out of a mere man (Jesus).

**YAWN! How many more times are you going to drag this up - it has been answered thousands of times! You have 2610 posts and still asking the same question. Why are you on this board if you have no interest in Christianity?

**Watch the testimony in my footer. He is not a “mere man” but again we have been over this thousands of times!

We were warned about false prophets and whispering angels and the Pope himself said this:

*“Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached”
*
I will post this again for you to read:-

John14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. Mohammed clearly did not want Muslims to know that so when he re-wrote the Bible to make the quran he threatened you with Hell for not believing his lies.

God also says this:

Colossians 2:1-6
I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not met me personally. My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this SO THAT NO-ONE MAY DECEIVE YOU BY FINE SOUNDING ARGUMENTS. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.

FALSE PROPHETS:

Matthew 24:24-26
24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 25See, I have told you ahead of time.
26"So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.

Mark 13:21-23
21At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ[a]!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect—if that were possible. 23So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.

Luke 21:8-9
8He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. 9When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”

WHISPERING ANGELS:

Galatians 1
1Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2and all the brothers with me,
 To the churches in Galatia:
3Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
No Other Gospel
6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

** You are just using false and bad words. I had asked a simple question. You have given a long post. What for? And you started discussing Muhammad too. There was no need of that yet. First you were to tell me “Who told you that Jesus is God.?” You should have given the name of that person or body and that would have been enough.

You still have not replied to my question “Who told you that Jesus was God?” I want to know that. I do not need any proof etc. In your above post, there is no mention of God. Can you see?. So try again. You have failed.**

It is Catholic doctrine - a person who teaches that it is OK to be a child molester cannot be a prophet. 😉

And there is nothing you can do about it; Catholism is free to determine her own teachings and belief. If she says Mohammad disqualifes as prophet because he molested a child, well, so that’s the way it’ll be.

charlotte, you are quite new here. You have only a few posts. Do not try to dodge. Do not tell me about how many times you have faced my question. I have a right to ask you all these things and it will soon expose your double standards.

**Reuben, by this post you have in fact admitted your defeat. You have admitted that Catholicism is a self made religion. It has nothing to do with God.

I won’t bother you any more.**

Saint Paul said
Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema.

Mohammed said** an angel appeared to him**, I believe it was one of the fallen angels if he ever did see one, or probably satan himself. The Angel Gabriel in-fact, which flies in the face of what St Paul warned about.

So he preached a differrent gospel, so therefore Mohammed is was a false prophet, by Pauls reckoning.

Jesus was not a mere man, He was God made man, Mohammed was just a mere man.

Emmanuel means God is with us, so Jesus and the Father are one, Jesus said so.

sedonaman, You are misunderstanding. samaan is avoiding to answer my question in those posts. Please all catholics, go to the help of samaan there.
Planten, you make me laugh. I have been asking you for four things throughout our entire discussion on the previous thread:

-Cited sources
-Relevant examples
-Textual Proof
-Logical reasoning

I come over to this discussion thread just to read the postings, and here I find you making postings about the same question you tried to change the discussion to when you refused to answer my questions.

Planten, why don’t you just answer my questions like in a normal conversation?

To anybody else who is reading on this forum, I suggest that you do not answer Planten’s questions about “Who told you that Jesus was God?”, because he still has yet to answer my question in the Islam, Round 3 forum.

Planten, I challenge you here before this entire message board to respond to the answers and questions I raised earlier about the Angel Gabriel appearing to Mohammed at Mt. Hira as articulated in Bukhari Volume I, Book I, Tradition Number 6 (please see the posting in the Islam, Round 3 Forum).

I challenge you to a real debate about this topic.

I’m confident in my Christian faith to debate you. Are you confident in your Islam enough to accept my challenge, or will you refuse to debate because you cannot substantiate your arguments?

Will you accept to continue the previous debate? Yes or no?

I would say to that we acknowledge that Moslems see him as a prophet.

The document in Vatican II on non-Christian religions finds things we can admire in this faith. “All truth is God’s truth.” (T. Aquinas)

The charitable thing I would say if I were in an interfaith discussion would be that Mohammed was an spiritual and social advancement for his particular time and area; Arabia was high polytheistic and practiced a form of enforcing social order that was even more brutal than shyria.
Also I would add, as an animal lover, that I find much to admire in the tales I’ve read about Mohammed banning the tying of a camel to his owner’s grave (so the animal would die of thirst/the elements), plus the banning of overlaying loads on beast of burden such as camels and donkeys, and one delightful tale that Mohammed was once lecturing and a cat feel asleep on the wide cuff of his sleeve, and to keep from wakening the little cat when it was time to rise, Mohammed cut off his sleeve! May not be true, but at least it teaches people to be kind to God’s creatures.
