Yes, but remember this was right before he went to the blue mosque in Turkey and faced towards Mecca to pray with the false religion. What a shame.
** And I read an article on the net with the worst type of abuse that I had ever seen about Pope (perhaps J.P. II ) So what is the merit of any Pope? He is not holy. He is a sinner (sinful person). Why should ny one believe him? That must have been a sin to pray to Makkah and also to kiss the Quran.

It is surprising to see what the Catholics are saying about Islam and what their Pope is doing about Islam.

What tune I am playing and what other tune my Harp is dishing out?

Judas was a follower of Jesus and he betrayed Jesus but this does not mean that Jesus’ message was erroneous. It just means that Judas sinned. Members of Christ’s Church sin, even popes and other bishops; however, Jesus’ gospel is still true because Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. His Message (gospel) is Truth; the messengers are sinful humans. They are not impeccable (not without sin). These sinful leaders cause scandal to the faithful. Jesus’ gospel, however, which they proclaim, is without error. He is the author of it, not them.

In a recent edition in the “West Tennessee Catholic” newspaper, it had an article covering a Muslim & Christian Forum at St. Augustine Church.

There were 3 Christians and 3 Muslims. The three Christians were the pastor at St. Augustine’s, a Presbyterian Liberation Church Pastor, and a pastor at a “Church of Human Development”.

So in this article, there is the following sentence:

So I’m a little confused…

Muslims - Does the Islamic faith regard Jesus as the Messiah?

Christians - Does the Christian faith regard Muhammad as a prophet?

I’ve never been taught that I should regard Muhammad as a prophet, and I’ve been a Catholic for a year. What else do I need to know?

Of course, I realize the mix of panelists on both sides could have contributed to a bad dissemination of information.
]

It’s possible that, as someone suggested, the reporter omitted the word “respectively.” But it’s also possible that the Christian panelists were willing to grant that Muhammad was a prophet in the sense that he taught about the One True God to people who had previously been polytheists. I think this is a defensible position, with heavy qualifications, but those Christians who take such a stance should make it very clear that this is not any kind of official Christian teaching.

Christianity as a whole doesn’t need to have any position on Muhammad, except that insofar as his teachings agree with those of the Christian Faith they are true and insofar as they don’t they are false!

Contarini, Yes, measuring Muhammad with the scale of christianity, it would be like that.

I would say that while such a position has been made in good faith by well-meaning Christians, it’s very wrong to acknowledge at such an even that Mohammed “could” have been a prophet.

I say this for a few reasons. First, Mohammed was not a prophet. He was (and anybody who wants to dispute with me on these, feel free to join in the debate!) as proven by the classical Islamic texts a:

-Pedophile
-Assassin
-Mass Murderer
-Cult leader

…and the list goes on. No other founder of any major religion in history ever did these things. Jesus didn’t. Buddha didn’t. Judaism didn’t. Even pagan and tribal religions did claim such a person as Mohammed to be their founder or chief leader.

Second, Moslems don’t see such a gesture as one of kindness- they see it as one of submission. In the Moslem mind, to call Mohammed a prophet, even if just in the sense of kindness and respect and not believing it on a personal level, they see it as consent and acknowledgement that Mohammed is a prophet and that you are wrong and are now admitting that you are wrong.

This is not just a particularly Arab mindset, but seems from my experience is for most Moslems, regardless of culture.

Third, and perhaps the most important point, is that the core of Mohammed’s teachings was that Jesus is not God. Christianity asserts that Jesus is God. It doesn’t matter what else Mohammed did- by refusing to acknowledge Christ’s divinity, while Moslems may have done or do good things, they are misguided in terms of their religion because their religion teaches that Christ is something other than who Christ says He really is.

Once at mass a nun was giving the homily(That’s the first problem!) and referred to Muhammed as “the prophet Muhammed”! In a Catholic church!!! It wasn’t a slip of the tongue that might have been caused by hearing him referred to as such, she deliberately paused to decide how to refer to him, and proceded with the title of prophet… had the family not been there I’d have left that second.
I just talked to a nun last night and believe me - it is amazing the ignorance that she had about islam. It is as if they are just in lala land about so many dying at muslim’s hands in the name of that ‘prophet’, or their allah. There is no idea in their heads that maybe they should find out what they are following and read their texts to find out.

It just amazes me - and this nun teaches at a college.

Yes, we should treat muslims as human beings (that is more consideration than they give to us since the concept of ‘human being’ isn’t even in islam), but we should also be aware of the fact what islam teaches in their koran. And it ain’t peace (jihad = 97% is violent and 3% is other than violent)!

Jesus is the Son of God.

Luke 1:26-38 “Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”
38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”

Galatians 3:15-29 "Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. 16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,”who is Christ. 17 And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. 18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
19 What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. 20 Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one. 21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. 22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Jesus Christ is the promised Seed of Abraham who redeems us by His death on the cross through the Sacrament of Baptism.

He has been told this so often - basically, what we believe in and he just goes on his merry way posting the same old stuff.

Of course, he cannot believe that God can do anything - the creator of this Universe, but is unable to fathom that God can be manifested as a man and also keep track of His other ‘Godly duties’.

Now, if you had the concept of allah in your mind you could understand his misgivings that his allah could do such a thing. allah couldn’t do anything without mohammed! (The thread about ‘Muhammad committed shirk many times’ goes over this phenomenon.

It is why allah is NOT the God of Israel.

It is good to respond to his posts though since anyone new would read the rebuttal to his post.

Maybe one day, with enough prayers for planten and the other muslims on these threads, they will realize that islam is false and Jesus Christ is indeed the Light, the Way to Salvation. I don’t know how they can reason that deception, death and chaos is what God wants for His people.

I agree, it is always good to have the context.

Our Diocescian paper is online and here is the link to that article. The sentence in question is in the 6th little paragraph which begins… “The task of the forum…”

It’s possible that it was just a bad wording of the sentence. Perhaps it should have been worded as follows:
  • It is clear that Christianity and Islam each regard Jesus as the Messiah and Mohammad as a prophet, respectively. *
Meaning, Christianity regards Jesus as the Messiah and Islam regards Mohammad as a prophet.

Maybe the writer meant to say that, but it came out all wrong. Or maybe the writer is all mixed up.

Well no need to get all into semantics. My question is basically answered. Just wanted to be sure I wasn’t the only Catholic that fails to hail Mohammad as being a great prophet.

Thanks for all your responses!
  1. Muhammad was a snake oil salesman.
  2. A Muslim should not be teaching in a Catholic school. Period.

In the name of Allah , Most Gracious, Most Merciful

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
Muslims - Does the Islamic faith regard Jesus as the Messiah?
yes ; but he is not son of God or God Himself . Jesus (pbuh) is a humble servant & blessed Prophet of God Almighty.

And they (Jews, Christians and pagans) say: Allah has begotten a son (children or offspring). Glory be to Him (Exalted be He above all that they associate with Him).

Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth, and all surrender with obedience (in worship) to Him.

( سورة البقرة , Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #116)
Christians - Does the Christian faith regard Muhammad as a prophet?
.
No. If Christians start worshipping one God & accept Muhammed (pbuh) as the Last Prophet , then they will no longer Christians but become Muslims.

O people of the Scripture! (Jews and Christians): “Why do you disbelieve in the Ayat of Allah, (the Verses about Prophet Muhammad SAW present in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)) while you (yourselves) bear witness (to their truth).”

O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): “Why do you mix truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know?”

( سورة آل عمران , Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #70-71)

I have a quote from St. Francis of Assisi regarding Islam.

St. Francis of Assisi: “We have come to preach faith in Jesus Christ to you, that you will renounce Mohammad, that wicked slave of the devil, and obtain everlasting life like us.”

Just to tell you how true Catholics felt about it before it was politically incorrect to think so.

That was also a time when Catholics were being told that Muslims worshipped an idol called Baphomet 😦 St. Francis was a man of his time (as all of us are) - we are not bound to every word he said nor to all his theological judgements, even though he was a Saint.

As you are a person of your time - a time when left wingers think it is a-ok to appease muslims while not caring, or chosing ignorance, etc of what islam’s agenda for us really is - death, conversion or subjugation. And allah was the god of mohammed’s pagan religion mixed with himself and made to have people believe it was the God of Israel by mohammed throwing in some (screwed up) Bible stories.

St. Francis was not bound by the political correctness, and multiculturalism, gone mad generation. There is a concerted effort to not tell the truth about islam, mohammed and allah. Why is that? I have my own ideas on the subject - the idea that it is ‘cool’ to chose this way. To chose stay ignorant while thinking that they are more intelligent and more open minded. When in fact it is the opposite because they are the ones unwilling to look at the facts as islam’s own texts and history present themselves.

I agree with you. It was a sin for him to kiss the Quran. The Quran does not tell the truth, it leads many people away from Christ and the message of salvation. That is why I believe he was an antipope, just like benedict xvi. They are teaching heresy.

So far he is the only one admitting that talking with the muslims has so far been pretty futile.

Vatican’s response to muslims request for peace - basically said that the muslims are not serious about it

Then I found this article interesting about what is coming out of the Vatican. La Civilta Cattolica

But, I do think that there are mixed messages coming out from the Vatican which do not help the overall situation. The kissing of the koran made me want to puke. The fact that no one in a role of leadership is bothering to find out that the muslim’s claim that they are a part of the Judeo-Christian religions is just hogwash also amazes me. It doesn’t take too much research to find that fact out.

But, we also have to remember that there are a lot of people who would have a lot of problems if the Pope took too much of a drastic action - although this action will need to be taken at some time. The poor behavior of muslims will be exhibited as it always is whenever they don’t get their way. Look at the people who died over the cartoons - people who had nothing to do with them. And so what if someone did have something to do with cartoons - or a movie - or whatever - that is their right to do and say such things. As far as I am concerned islam needs to be scrutinized.

by their going through the UN to shut people up is just amazing that anyone actually would listen to the UN when such a resolution is passed. Especially considering all the abuse that muslims dish out against the Jews, or Christians, or anyone not a ‘believer’. They conveniently don’t sign any agreement when it comes to stopping slavery, or human rights abuses, or abuse against women, etc. Nope - and no one says anything about that - especially the UN!

At least Geert Wilder’s case was dropped because they said that ‘bashing islam is not bashing muslims’.

**SHW, we have better description of all of the above in our Quran which was revealed on the heart of Muhammad by the same angel. But you people do not believe it was the angel. But when angel talks to Mary or Joseph the carpentar, you people believe that. Even though that is all written by some sinful men and even though that is not the word of God. That is all the word of some scribes.Nobody dictated that to them.

Please think over. Tell me am I also permitted to deny what you have written above?**

**I don’t think such a person could be any saint. (He used very bad words against the true man of God i.e. Muhammad.) He could only be a devil. It is very easy in christianity for the devil to mislead every one. The devil had the courage to mislead jesus too. How come the devil went near Jesus? It is said that Jesus was steadfast. He was tempted by the devil but Jesus kept his faith in God and saved himself with some difficulty.

Not every one can be saved like that. Most of you fall a prey to the doings of the devil.**
