It’s hard to effectively debate Nathan because, he’ll make a statement such as below but has no Scripture support,
Nathan’s response to me posted on 552
Response: That’s right Ed. John only baptized with water. Then when Jesus gets baptized, something special happens. He turns it into a sacrament with the presence of the Spirit.
That’s not so. Here’s what took place at Christ’s baptism Mat 3:16 “ As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on Him, v17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I Love; with him I am well pleased.” ---- PLEASE NOTE: after Jesus was already baptized and came OUT of the water, then The Spirit came down on Him. Mark 1:10 states exactly the same.
In John 1:29-33 makes a very interesting statement, v 29, The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! V30 This is the one I meant when I said, “A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ v 31 I myself did not know Him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.” v 32 Then John gave this testimony: “ I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and REMAIN on Him. V 33 I would not have known Him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, “The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and REMAIN is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.”---- PLEASE NOTE: Above it states that Jesus takes away the sins of the world , so how can Nathan claim that water baptism does too? Nowhere, in the above Scripture does it even give a hint that John’s water baptism turns into a sacrament with the presence of the Spirit. Repeatedly I asked Nathan show me the Scripture that supports the Holy Spirit is infused by water baptism, he tried to convince me that he did but finally on post 454 he admits there is none. That’s why it’s hard to honestly debate him. ED O.
