Reacting to California’s Supreme Court ruling in favor of homosexual “marriage,” the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) published a two-page ad today, which appeared simultaneously in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Times.

The American TFP’s statement is called Battling for America’s Soul: How Homosexual “Marriage” Threatens Our Nation and Faith—the TFP Urges Lawful and Conscientious Resistance.

“Mainstream America is understandably upset about same-sex ‘marriage,’” said TFP director Preston Noell. It is a grave offense against God and undermines 2,000 years of Christian morality. Same-sex ‘marriage’ threatens the social stability of our nation and future,” he added.

In fact, after New York Governor David Patterson ordered legal recognition for same-sex “marriages” contracted out of state, the controversy has only intensified.

“There’s a battle going on for America’s soul,” Noell explained. “At the root of this conflict lies a profound divergence of worldviews. The Christian worldview is anchored in reality, whereas secularism does not respect reality’s constraints.”

“America is witnessing a rising tide of laws and judicial decisions that favor homosexual practices on one hand, and hinder and punish those who oppose them for reasons of faith and conscience on the other,” he said. “I’m starting to see elements of a new religious persecution falling into place, and that’s most troubling.”

The TFP’s hard-hitting two-page ad is available online, as published in The New York Times, at www.tfp.org.

What a bold, forceful and very logical summary on the part of the writers at TFP on the dangers and intrinsic evil of homosexual acts and those who seek to promote it in the public square.

What dangers? This is a editorial piece written to put fear on something which there is nothing to be afraid of. What California’s ruling will due is sow seeds of unity across the country. Marriage for different-gender people will not change one bit.

Unity how so? Well meaning people that do not stand on their religious beliefs disagree and are fighting over this issue.

At least those of us that say NO because we believe our faith teachings have those beliefs to fall back on and support us. The majority of the loud noisy objections (on both sides) are not, IMHO, from the faith community. The faith community is using the remedies available to us and not bending the laws to suit our desired goals as pro-active judges have tended to do.

And yes this is going to be pushed to the edge. Unlike abortion we have a remedy available to us prior to the national enforcement of the issue. One way or the other laws and State Constitutions then the Federal Constitution will be changed. There is no middle ground on this issue one side will win and the other will loose. Right and wrong can not be compromised.

Those for will settle from nothing less.
Those against will not settle to something the same.

To do so makes both sides feel they have lost the battle.

As a Catholic Christian I will not support things that go against the teachings of the Holy Church. I can support people as people and pray for them. But, I will not be a party to promoting things contrary to my faith.

It shows unity as it shows there is nothing to fear, no boogyman, the sky will not rain cats and dogs, etc… Life will continue on as nothing happened, the world will move forward and same-gender marriages will be part of our overall society to make it better with the love and care for each other for each couple. The marriages will rise and fall, some will divorce, they are normal people with the same relationship weaknesses as the rest of us (money, personal differences, temptation towards others, etc…).

It almost sounds like you’re condoning same-sex marriages.

What you fail to understand is that yes, we the Church recognize that all can fall into sin. But we are not to CONDONE that sin. In essence, you seem to be doing that.

That is because it is the Chicken and Egg discussion. There can be sin by being outside of marriage, but the marriage in any form is not even available in the first place, so then it is hard to be sinful. The legal ability to have a marriage means the institution will exist so they will not be in sin with a loving, lifelong, monogamous relationship with two people of the same gender. There is no sin for having same-gender preferences.

Society can not change something from being a sin to not being a sin. Society can only condone the action of the sin. A sin in Gods eyes is still a sin.

You have to look at it as society when these things were first reason, the historical reasons behind them, and the differences between society then and now. And how those historical reasons relate to the present and which local cultures were they based on. Remember the Catholic Church has adopted many cultures in the name of conversion over the centuries.

Just because the Secular Relativist say their perversions are OK does not make them right. God’s Natural Law must be obeyed. If “Positive Law” (man’s law) conflicts with God’s Natural Law, “Positive Law” must be opposed and ignored.

Relativism is imploding society and must be eliminated as an influence on society.

So you mean to say that if a culture’s norm is murder that the Church has adopted to this practice???

The Church speaks of an innate morality that is fundamental and applicable to all societies. You need to look beyond the “here and now” to see what has been fundamentally established as a result of man’s higher need to do what’s right.

Condoning same-sex marriages, my friend, is not part of that foundation.

Apples and oranges, the topic is same-gender marriage, not murder, that is a misrepresentation of the issue to take the discussion in that direction.

Look around you, is the world around us rigid? Calcified? Only live on a binary thought process? Of course it is not that way, the world around us is diverse and that is the world the Church and the rest of the world is. The Church’s policy is drawn from traditions of the past which the world has moved forward from. Allowing livelong, monogamous legal relationships is not the end of the world. 🤷

Who said anything about "Secular Relativist"s? What we see here are natural relations between people. Same gender unions happen all across nature, in our species we have to work through a series of societal laws as we were given those gifts. There is still much discussion about “Natural Law” as that line of theology is still evolving and not static. It was written for a different time and place.

That is called Relativism. God’s law transcends time. Homosexual “marriage” was/is/will always be against God’s Law no matter how the Relativist spins it.

A sexual union between a man and a woman often results in a new life being formed. That new life is a baby, with those involved in that sexual union being the baby’s parents. The ideal situation is for those two adults to be married and bring that child up in a loving home. That is the way that God obviously planned it. That is why the union is a wonderful, enjoyable act between two married, loving people. A sexual union between two homosexuals does not produce a child. It never will and obviously wasn’t planned by God to do so. Both in the Old and New Testaments, homosexual activity is very strongly condemned as a sin. It is sodomy! However, I feel a lot of compassion towards people who were born with the desire to commit such sinful acts. I feel that a person who is inclined to commit sodomy has to control him or herself. Sodomy between two guys is a huge health hazard. I’ve heard a number of doctors explain why this is so. I don’t want to go into details, but just use your imagination and read about certain parts of human anatomy. (One particular part of the body is where a awful lot of bacteria roam.) Much like an alcoholic being genetically programmed to desire the unlimited consumption of alcohol the same may be said for the homosexual desiring sodomy. An alcoholic has to completely stay away from alcohol. A homosexual has the duty to stay away from sodomy. Life is unfair but I believe that there is a wonderful paradise in heaven.

Many same-gender preference people adopt and raise a happy family together. 👍 Often they end up adopting some children that others do not want due to disabilities, etc… Many are spiritual and religious and this is one way they live out their faith. They can do it through the state until Catholic Charities revises their policies to allow it again (I pray every day this happens sooner than later).

I pray every day as do many of my family and friends that Catholic Charities remains true to the Magesterium.

Children deserve families. Those families should consist of a mother and father, not party A and party B.

Only because people like you want natural law to be other than what it is. Sorry, God created everything with a certain purpose, you can’t change that no matter how much you think it should be.

Oh, and since you won’t;

My comment on Catholics resisting same-sex ‘marriage’:

Good for them. 🙂
