I think that many are still fighting the war, at least in their heads. I’m a Southerner, and I know many people, know of many people, and even people I don’t know, from the South who harbor deep resentment because the South lost the war. I’ve heard people call Abraham Lincoln a tyrant and a war criminal and this is only recently. And there are some, and among the group I just mentioned, who are not only still fighting the 'Lost Cause", but also are intent that the South will rise again in their hopes for a new Confederacy. These same people will also tell blacks and anyone who knows about the institution of slavery and it’s lasting effects even to this day to “get over it” and that it was so long ago,to forget the past etc. will wave their Confederate Battle flags in a show of their Southern and Confederate heritage. You’ll often here the phrase: “Heritage, not Hate”, but they’ll go ballistic if you tell ‘them’ to “get over it” or that it was so long ago and to forget the past. These people are adamant in celebrating their Southern heritage, the Confederacy, but are quick to tell blacks that they cannot or shouldn’t celebrate their own heritage or to even suggest that slavery was the primary factor of the war.
