Catholic4aReasn:
I was once a member on an anti-Catholic message board. I signed up to post for no other reason than to correct misconceptions. I absolutely refused to debate, telling them that there were plenty of other people there to do that. All I was doing was correcting things when the Church was accused of teaching something she doesn’t. That didn’t stop members from trying to lure me into arguments and then shame me into responding by accusing me of not knowing the answer, being blind to the truth or being a coward, always in the nastiest way possible. I never took the bait though. I would reiterate why I was there. My posts would be simple, saying something like “The Church does not teach X. The Church actually teaches Y”.

Eventually I was banned from the site being told I was disgusting. Go figure.

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂
You have a lot of self control, much more than I do. I have never posted on one of those boards, and probably would do Catholics more harm than good . The anti-Catholics we get here provide plenty of stuff to keep me upset

Are Catholics the main focus of their anti-whatever-ism?

I saw your posts and read the explainations you gave, and believe most Catholics go to those boards for that very reason-correct the false accusations. You were being the most honest person on that site. They had to ban you; you never agreed with their propaganda.

I seldom post on such sites, but when I do it’s because I can’t let such obvious falsehoods go unanswered. We are unable to change the minds of the hard core regulars, but may be a benifit to the lurkers.

A quarrel or a fight. You know-
  • to straighten 'em out
  • save their lost souls
  • prove you’re right and they’re less right
  • see if you cause someone to pop a major artery
  • insult their dog or mother
  • call them all snake handlers
  • tell them why they’re all gonna light up hell like a can of gas
  • just generally be contrary
  • to give them a grammer lesson
:rotfl:

Personally, i have not. I do however try to defend the Faith if I find the Church being attacked on a forum that can talk about anything. But the way I see it. If you go to a protestant site, they will do nothing but throw misunderstood Biblical quotes at you non stop never truly seeing their errors. If a protestant is searching with the aid of Grace, he will most likely end up here or another Catholic site respectively interacting with Catholics and wanting to understand.

Anyways, if it is someones intention to cause trouble that woud be wrong. If he is trying to get at least one protestant to actually think about their postition as a protestant, i see no problem in that.

I almost did once but when I went to go through the registration to be allowed to post it was this really long drawn out process. By the time I was done with it I forgot what I wanted to say!😃

Why would anyone want to cause more problems? There are already enough out there any way.

Cruised Protestant or anti-Catholic forums just to instigate?
Instigate a debate, or even a flame war, in a non-Catholic site?

No.

Doing so would be a pointless waste of my time.

If you’re a even a half-way committed apologist, you have. How can you even begin to prepare to defend your faith if you don’t understand what you are up against?

Re: Catholics- Tell the truth. Have you ever…
I’m sorry. Do you perceive many Catholics consistently lying, or likely to lie on this question? Evidence?

No.

No need to apologize. My bad.

Absolutely not.
Scott Waddell:
Evidence?
I have none because this question was not intended to be inflamatory.

My question was poorly worded. I did not mean to imply anyone would lie about this.

Is it too late for me to take back my opinion of Fenders?

I’ve send e-mails to wacky American fundementalist sites. I’ve never gotten e-mailed back yet, I guess they can’t answer me.

No, I believe that would be contrary to the Teachings of Christ and the Church.

Now I have a question for you. Are you trying to justify your own behavior?

I can honestly say no. I do think some of our separated brethren go to Catholic sites to evangelize and end up discovering truth if they have an open heart.

No. Any of those guys would eat me alive.

After reading some of the posts by anti-Catholics, I wondered if the door swings both ways.

I never instigate posters on the Protestant forums. But I have to quit reading them because it is not good for my blood pressure.

I read about God having intercourse with Mary to create Jesus?

A nervous breakdown nearly ensued on my part, as it were.

Because I see enough of it here. Some of our non-catholic members seem to think we’re a bunch of “Romanists” who need to be “delivered” from the “Whore of Babylon.”
I went to one of those sites once- on one of the threads, they were arguing that the “inner rooms” Jesus mentioned in Matthew 24:26 ("If they say, ‘he is in the inner rooms’, do not believe it) refer to the tabernacles in Catholic churches! Seriously, how can you present a rational defense of the Faith to those who twist Scripture into pretzels to make their point? :banghead:

As credo pointed out in a previous post, stuff like that ain’t good for the blood pressure. Besides, I’m an ex-Protestant so I know most of the arguments against Catholicism (I’ve used them a time or two, sad to say :nope: )
