Catholics: When did you last read the Bible?

I believe that most Catholics on this forum would recommend the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition. You will notice that a number of posters referred to this bible as the RSV-CE. It is excellent because the translation is in modern english and remains faithful in translation from the original languages.

That’s not MOST Catholics then. Is there anywhere that MOST attend Mass daily?

In any case, if you were to read ALL the Missal readings you only actually cover the minority of the Bible. Someone here once posted a site with the full statistics but I can’t remember it now.

20 years ago only 16% of American Catholics read their Bibles at least weekly. Has this changed? I know that the statistics in this poll would suggest otherwise but I don’t think that the Catholics who frequent this site are a totally representative group from the whole.

five or six douay rheims…
my favorite is My Big white family bible from the fiftys

a few protestant bibles… not worth metioning what they are… cause we should get rid of them…

and a Jehovas Witness bible which I hope to burn!

3 RSV- Catholic Bible
Most of Navarre Series
2 King James Version–One is a beautiful illuminated Bible and the other is old, way before my Catholic days.
1 Peshitta-not regularly read, just purchased for research
1 NAB

Also, bookmarked on my favorites are a DRV, RSV, and Haydock DRV.

I always carry a bible in the car (a pocket RSV) and I take it to church to read before Mass.

Err… and I get the daily readings sent to me via email daily as well as a scripture of the day sent by Mark Shea and friends.

Oh… and every Thursday for nine months I go to Bible study. Last year was the Gospel of John. This year it is Genesis. Awesome.

Do I pass? 😃

Oh, gee, I forgot to answer the question in the title of the thread. When did I last read the Bible? Today!

KJV w/ red letters (present from Protestant friend in high school when she saw sad worn-out shape of our family bible)

Ronald Knox’s Bible
Kleist-Lilly New Testament
Gospel of Luke in Sea Islands Creole
a NT and Psalms in Spanish

i read my Bible every day…i have many Bibles + online translations…i don’t take my Bible to Church but i go to mass more than 4 times a week, sometimes everyday…i watch a Catholic channel on tv everyday…do i pass 😃
 
Read my Bible every day. It’s part of what gets me through life.

I have my own RSV-CE that I read most.

I have several Bibles.
New English Bible (not Catholic)
Jerusalem Bible, which I like.
A 4 translation parallel NT which is kinda handy containing KJV, NASB, NIV, and Amplified.
I’m a “revert”.
 
So there are only 170 people here who read the Bible, own at least one, and can answer this poll? Come on now! 🙂
 
I am a cradle Catholic who owns a Douay Rheims Bible. I only read from it a couple times a week at the most. But, I also pray the Little Office which is made up of almost totally of Scripture passages. So while I technically do not read from my Bible everyday, I read and pray the Scriptures multiple times a day 🙂
 
I have several bibles. My favorite being the Douay-Rheims. And I read it every day before bed.

I am a former protestant and convert to the Catholic Church so I have my old NIV study Bible. Now I have the New American Bible - Catholic Study Bible which I am not particularly fond of. The one I read daily is my Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition from Ignatius Press which I love and take with me to most places. My parents (non-Catholic) bought this for me for a birthday gift after I did much research.😃
 
I own several Bibles.
The New American Bible (The 1970 Version; Originally My Grandma’s but she let me have it. The binding and some pages fell off which was fixed with glue)
The Good News Bible (Placed in our Altar)
The Good News Bible New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs (left it in the Philippines)
Magandang Balita Biblia (Good News Bible in Tagalog, left it in the Philippines; Extremely worn due to constant reading, some pages torn were crudely fixed with tape and the hardcover falling off a few times which was fixed by gluing it)
The New Interconfessional Translation New Testament (Japanese; The only Japanese Bible I’ve got)
The King James Version New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs (also left it in the Philippines)
The New King James Version New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs (also left it in the Philippines)
The New International Version (My Sister’s)
And of course, the Online Vulgate and Douay-Rheims texts. 😃
