Catholics: When did you last read the Bible?

I’ll start. I own several (over 10 I’m sure) Bibles in various editions and translations. My personal reading is done mostly from either the Douay-Rheims Version or the new RSV-CE 2nd Edition but I will refer to others if I feel the need, which is rare. Only a few are non-Catholic versions because I consider them incomplete without all 73 books. For personal study, I would not use a non-Catholic Bible.

I read some of the Bible every single day, and I often look up the Mass readings before I go to Mass and (since I don’t own a Missal [yet]) print them to take with me to daily Mass when I can go. I often carry my Bible with me to Mass or Eucharistic Adoration just because…

I read 7-10 hours a week, I like the days when I can alot a full 1.5 hours. the other night I read romans 1 cor, and 10 chapters of 2nd cor. ( not bragging) Just love His word. 😃

I chose more than 4 times a week, just because some days here and there I don’t read it.

I own several bibles but I still haven’t found a favorite yet.

I’m involved in 2 bible studies (one Catholic one non-denom). When I first started the non-denom study people were surprised that a Catholic would know the bible so well, now they just come to me for help :eek: .

When I pray the rosary (daily) I always use scriptural refrences (keeps my mind from wandering).
 
I put four or more times a week. I shoot for once a day, but don’t quite make it every day.
 
at least once a day. I usually read the New American Standard Bible when studying and the New American Bible when reading for fun.
 
Soon-to-be 40 year old male, never baptized, grew up a-religious, going through RCIA at my local parish.

I began reading the bible every day about two weeks ago. I’m over halfway through the New Testament right now.

God reveals himself to me the more I read. I’m making greater strides in my faith walk since taking up reading of His Word.

I read a small, leather bound Oxford Press RSV-CE first, falling back on a larger Oxford NAB with notes if I get stuck on a passage (which is becoming infrequent).

I see you’re from Omaha. If you are interested in talking to any priests about the Catholic Church, pm and I’ll give you some suggestions. I am from Omaha, and although I live in Iowa now, I still have most of my family down there.🙂
 
I own several bibles:

King James Version(Bible I like to read from mostly, and it’s probally out of habit really. Now I always have my Good News bible with me in case I don’t get something)

Good News Version: With Deutrocanon/Apocrypha. I consider this my first Catholic Bible and use it alongside the KJV version. I wanted to get the Deutrocanon because my KJV didn’t have it(I’m getting that Penguin Classics complete KJV on Sunday) so I fished around in second hand stores(Great places for finding bibles of all sorts for cheap prices!) and came out with a GNV for less than a buck. Also the first bible I ever owned was a Good News Version too.

New King James Version, I got it for free from the gideons, I use to use it because it was my only bible for a long time there, But Now I’ve got several versions, I don’t use it anymore.

NIV - I got nipped on this one, I paid $60 for an NIV Archaeological Study bible. I never use it anymore, The NIV is simply the worst translation of the bible I have ever read… and I blew $60 getting one. I got a bible for $1 buck(GNV) which is a much better translation than the NIV, just not worth it, not even the normal price of $10.

Being new to the Catholic faith, I have never read the Deutrocanon. I will probally read both Good News and KJV version of it together like I normally do when reading the bible.

I read my KJV four times a week, 2 chapters at a time with my GNV open beside it.
 
Well, I’m a Divinity School grad student so I own multiple bibles…

CEV
Douay-Rheims

I mostly stick to the NAB, NRSV and New Oxford for personal study or class.

For personal/spiritual reading I like the NRSV the best, though I have problems with the inclusive language.

i have a New Jerusalem Bible that i read from most of the time. I read along with a pamphlet I got from EWTN’s Journey Home program, where you read a portion of Scripture each day and a portion of the Catechism each day so that you are reading through both books in a year.

if you have never read the Deutrocanon you are in for a real treat. Specially the book called Sirach. It is similar to Proverbs. I am a convert from Protestantism so I’d never heard of the extra books that Catholic Bibles have. I then was really surprised when I found out that they weren’t really extra at all but were always considered part of sacred Scripture until Martin Luther came along and decided he didn’t like what those books taught and threw them to the wind. Of course he also wanted to do the same with about the last 1/3 of the New Testament but was overruled by most of the other fathers of the Protestant movement. The result being that Catholic New Testaments and Protestant New Testaments are the same!

I own four different Bibles. I have the New American Bible, the Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition (First Edition), the Douay-Rheims Bible, and the Novus Vulgate (Latin). I would love to get a Greek bible and possibly a Syriac one as well, to use for research.

The Lord Loves His People–Psalms
[a beautiful and large print volume–yet its compact!–written by the Daughters of St. Paul–love their music!–and I’m totally addicted to it. My love of the Psalms came from this book]

…and of course, as its Scriptural, the Rosary. 🙂

I haven’t been able to find a satisfactory commentary [let alone large/giant print version] as of yet.

There’s a Bible project I’ll be working on, so that’ll soon add to my list of Bibles. There’s nothing I enjoy more than reading the Bible. I love it even more than Victorian novels.

i own 3 Bibles, DRV, NAS, ( new amer. stand) and the Gideon .
 
I read the Bible daily and also belong to a Catholic Bible study group at my parish. Right now, we’re on break until the beginning of Lent. We just finished studying Galatians and Romans. We have also studied Revelation, John’s Gospel and epistles, Genesis, Psalms, Wisdom, Acts, the Infancy Narratives, the Passion and Resurrection Narratives, and the Minor Prophets. Our next study will be Paul’s Captivity Letters.

Since we’re not meeting for Bible study now, I’m reading Isaiah. I also like to read a Psalm every day as part of my prayers. I’ll also take my Bible with me to Church sometimes when I go to pray before the Blessed Sacrament.

I own a lot of Bibles: Douay-Rheims (my favourite), RSV-CE, NRSV-CE, NAB, KJV (one with and one without Apocrypha), and NASB.

I love reading and studying God’s Word.🙂 :bible1: ❤️
