I am sorry you leff the One True Church. i am even sorrier that whoever was resonbile for teachng you about the Catholic faith did just a horrible job of it. There is not a single thing in your complaints about the Church that is true.
So sad. 😦

You may feel comfortable saying RCC at Carm Ginger. If you are the same Ginger I saw after registering there?

Here, you cant get away with that lest you look ignorant. It is the Catholic Church Ginger dear.

“Roman” can be used if one is in the Latin Rite, as I am, and most of the posters who are here.

If you can please remember that in future it would be appreciated. 🙂

We do not worship Mary, and You can claim it all you want to, unfortunately you are a “thorn” in you own side doing so.

Former catholics dont like hearing they had little or no proper formation in the faith before leaving the Church.

You are doing them no favors by adding fuel to that fire by exposing yourself to be a catholic who did not understand their faith prior to leaving it.

So, I would ask you leave the harsh uncharitable stuff you are accustomed to at CARM there. Where it is allowed and encouraged.

Of courser, you may not be the Ginger at CARM. You just happen to fit her profile to a tee.

Hi G.
Code:
I'm curious... when did you stop believing in the true presence? I noticed you did not mentioned it. Was it not important in your spiritual life?

After giving it a lot of thought I think I’m not protestant because there is no mystery in most protestant ecclesial communities.

I will never forget what my systematic theology teacher told us one time “The moment you try to get rid of the mystery, you venture into heresy”

What do you think he/she meant? If this needs a new thread, then please start one. It is an intriguing thought and I would like to hear folks views on this. Dennis Cliff, a Canadian artists, says that Art has mystery.

Because I believe that obedience to God is impossible whilst protesting His church.

I recognize the authority of the church over my own.

That and the fact that everytime I get close to protestants they betray me somehow.

I wish to be with those I can trust to do what would be pleasing to God and not themselves.

Though I am sometimes disobedient I do not think its ok to be so just because I might get away with it.

I feel we should be accountable to God and admire virtues and integrity.

Because He promised the Gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church, and gave us the gift of infallibility.

No other church claims or can claim this gift. It is ours and ours alone.

When I was young, (and Lutheran), Catholic churches used to be open all the time. People could go in and pray, light candles and what not. Whenever I was troubled, or sad, even though I wasn’t Catholic, I used to go into Catholic Churches, and I’d feel instantly at peace. Enveloped by an indescribable warm glow, that is very difficult for me to describe.

I’ve come to find out now as an adult Catholic, what I was feeling was the very real presence of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Right there in the tabernacle. Now that I understand that real presence, and have converted, I can say that the reason I am not Protestant is because the absence of the real presence of the Lord in the Churches, and of course the lack of so many of the sacraments, (which I also didn’t know about back then), are what make me so grateful for my conversion. I can’t imagine ever spending another moment of my life out in the cold, and now on this side of the fence, I often wonder how I ever did to begin with. Thankfully the Holy Spirit was drawing me to the Church even as a Lutheran youth, and a Buddhist adult. It just took me a LONG time to finally open up and listen.

I don’t regret my journey getting here, but I sure don’t ever want to go anywhere else again. There’s no place like home. I pray for all souls to one day feel this completeness.

It’s a real shame that our society has become so disrespectful and dangerous that the Catholic churches can’t remain open like the used to. My times just sitting there in that glow have formed some very pleasant memories. I do go and visit the blessed sacrament still, but it was really something just wandering in off the street, and feeling that peace, even if you’re not a parishoner, or even a Catholic.

Peace to all,

Yours in Christ,

Steven

There are many reasons:
  • Concept of Faith Alone (Sola Fide) is not biblical
  • Concept of Justification being a one-time thing
  • Idea of faith being something that you cannot lose; assurance of salvation.
  • The Eucharist
  • Their theology is just incomplete; any honest study of theology leads back to the Catholic Church
  • The lack of honestly studying theology; “well that can’t be right because that’s what the Catholics believe”
  • Style of worship…
  • The fact that anything anti-Catholic is readily accepted without any research
I left the Catholic Church for 15 years; Thank you Lord for bringing me home!

I first want to say that I find much of Protestant worship and fellowship attractive, though it is generally more superficial. My experience has been limited to evangelical and non-denominational churches. Most of the Protestant people I have encountered have been good, loving people who are seeking to know, love and serve God through love for one another. I find it easy to associate with them and I have no animosity towards them - I hope to spend eternity with them. My wife is Protestant - enough said?
So why am I not Protestant? I am not Protestant because God has revealed himself to me in a variety of ways (Sacraments and sacramentals) in the Catholic faith and I cannot turn my back on that personal reality. In addition, it would be intellectually dishonest and disobedient for me to do so. I find too much theological baggage and inconsistency in Protestant theology. I could not lift my heart in prayer to God in peace if I had all that baggage of doubt weighing me down. I find the very foundations of the Protestant reformation (sola fide and sola scriptura) seriously lacking. Lacking Scripturally, lacking historically and lacking logically. They have constantly been revised and nuanced in an attempt to address this conspicuous lacking. Continually massaged to become more palatable and intellectually justifiable while simultaneously becoming so far removed from their source (ie reformers) as to be unrecognizable - they each remain a moving target subject to the whims of those who independently profess themselves capable and worthy of commentary. And, IMHO, those individuals have not born the witness of the greatest of our faith - the Saints and Martyrs - who professed, and continue to profess - the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church and who have done so from the very beginning of Christianity and who have continued to do so throughout every generation to the current day.

The question is posted and explain why you are not Protestant.

I am not Protestant because of Sola Scriptura, and Sola Fidelis and because of the different doctrines each Protestant Churches have…and their doctrine is not even Biblical
In a storm do you want to hold tight to a sprout or the tree trunk?

By the way, I love St Faustina’s Divine Mercy picture of Christ. You are closer to Catholic then you know it…

I have to post this. I am getting that feeling I get when I go up for Communion. I am getting it when I read this thread.

Manny’s first language is not english.

We all knew what he meant.

And, he is not asking for point by point reasons. He gave the ones you are aware of.

Lets not split hairs.😉
I’m Filipino American. Actually English is my first language I just never bother to proof read my material… 😊

It would have to be the Eucharist, most Evangelical Protestants lack Real Presence.

I found that feeling greatly increased after Confirmation. My first full Mass after my confirmation(a confirmation Mass for a nearby parish) was absolutely amazing. The music was perfectly singable, listen-to-able, and sacred! The singers were very good. Also, I felt very close to the Scriptures…like I was able to understand just a little more, able to hear God’s Word just a little bit more.
The climax was Communion. At the consecration I felt so close to Him…I actually almost started to cry it was so beautiful. I felt I understood the role of the Mass and the meaning of the Mass more.

Other than the previous paragraph for an answer to the OP, I am not Protestant because…
  1. The Bible doesn’t say “hold fast to your non-traditions”
  2. The Bible doesn’t say “whoever eats His body and drinks His blood unworthily won’t have to answer to Him. They won’t eat and drink damnation on themselves.”
  3. The Bible doesn’t say “Scripture, not the church, is the pilar of Truth.”
  4. God didn’t say “Be fruitful and multiply, but contraception is okay.”
  5. Jesus didn’t say “I with-hold from you the keys to the kingdom”
  6. The angel didn’t say “Hail Mary, empty of all grace”
  7. The Bible doesn’t say you will “be judged according to your faith”
  8. The Bible doesn’t say “faith without works is alive.”
  9. The tenet beliefs of Protestantism that are in contradiction with the Church all are easily denounced as folly by good Catholic Apologists like Karl Keating.
  10. My father and mother are two good Catholics. Praise God!
  11. The Holy Spirit has led my family even deeper into the Catholic faith by introducing us to this wonderful organization called Catholic Answers.
I wanna make a t-shirt that has a ton of one-line apologetics with the headline of “100 Reasons I’m Catholic”(or however many reasons there are). What do you think? Should we form a thread and get a good list of reasons and ask Catholic Answers to sell some cool shirts?
