Will do, I appreciate it! Anyplace that takes their perogies that seriously is a place I need to go at least once!
We made 1,000 last weekend! We’ll have more before Easter. 👍

I hope the Orthodox bishops become vocal quickly! I predict that the Protestants and other people of faith will follow quickly after them if they do.

I sincerely hope so. We will either stand up together and succeed, or stand apart and get picked off one by one. It is time for unity regardless of whatever theological differences may exist.

Peace,

Tom - I’m Eastern Orthodox but would like to support the Catholic Church’s effort in repealing this unconstitutional law. What can I do to help? Thanks!

Orthodox Bishops Assembly Silent on Moral Issues

Nothing could reveal this more clearly than the Assembly’s non-reaction to the Jan. 20 mandate by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius that orders most employers and insurers to provide contraceptives, sterilization, and abortifacient drugs (the “morning after pill”) free of charge. In sharp contrast to the somnolent Assembly, the response from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) was swift and unequivocal.
“From a human point of view, we may be tempted to surrender, when our government places conception, pregnancy and birth under the ‘center for disease control,’ when chemically blocking conception or aborting the baby in the womb is considered a ‘right’ to be subsidized by others who abhor it,” said Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York and president of USCCB. “Not us!”
It wasn’t just a Catholic thing. Protestant and Orthodox Jewish leaders had written to the White House in late December about concerns that “the contraceptives mandate in the health insurance regulations, and about the ‘religious employer’ exemption that is so narrow that it does not protect most faith-based organizations.”

I am not going to lie to you, I have been very disappointed in the relative lack of a response from the Orthodox Episcopate since word of the HHS mandate came down. I hope that they step up to the plate, and soon.

Awesome! 👍

Gives me the chills. A preview of a Church united, God willing.
Absolutely! I had a letter prepared I was going to post and mail to my bishop but it looks like I won’t be needing to. Next step is to write one for my representatives. I plan to email the same letter as well.

This is what I had written:

"1 February 2012

The Right Reverend Bishop Anthony of Toledo and the Midwest,

Master bless! As you may have learned, on January 20, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reaffirmed a rule that virtually all private health care plans must cover sterilization, abortifacients, and contraception. The rule is set to take effect August 1, 2012. Non-profit religious employers that do not now provide such coverage, and are not exempt under the rule’s extremely narrow definition of religious employer, will be given one year - until August 1, 2013 - to comply. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a letter which was read in every American Catholic parish last Sunday urging the faithful to contact their representatives to ask them to repeal this provision. While this law would most strongly affect institutions related to the Catholic Church, it represents an unconstitutional intrusion into religious life that could potentially affect the Orthodox Church as well. I believe that this is an issue on which we should stand with our Catholic brothers and sisters and send a clear message to the Obama administration that this legislation is not acceptable. I would humbly ask you to consider making a public statement in opposition to this law, and contacting your brother bishops and priests under your care to do the same. I am a member of [my parish], and look forward to meeting you when you are able to visit and discussing this issue with you further.

Kissing your right hand,"

Nice letter!

What is, I think, important is to note that this is not just a Catholic and/or Orthodox issue, but an issue that will in one way or another effect all Americans. It is nothing short of yet another step by Big Brother to insert government, which of course always knows what’s best for us :eek:, more and more into our lives, and reduce our freedoms.

American Family Association picked it up and broadcast it to their Christian network, too.

An exemption provided for “religious employers” is so narrow that it fails to cover the vast majority of faith-based organizations, including Catholic, Baptist and Methodist hospitals, Christian and religious-based universities, and service organizations that help millions every year.

"Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak out because I was Protestant.

Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me."

Poignant words that need to be remembered.

Amen to that!!

And yes, they’re coming for any and all of us who believe in God and Christ as our Savior. The Jews, especially those that practice their faith, are not safe either.

Nice letter. It was respectful and well put together. As a small point of fact, unfortunately letters were not read in all Catholic parishes and in fact, only about 80% of Catholic bishops have come out with a statement on the issue. I’m not trying to nitpick you, but I thought that in case you end up sending the letter at a later date, I don’t want you to have your facts wrong when you do.

Peace of Christ,

Well said.

Peace,

What a great example of solidarity among God’s people.

Great things can be accomplished when people of True Faith come together, in one voice!

Now let’s see if our “Christian” president responds …

I’m sure he’ll respond. And I’d bet dollars to doughnuts that it won’t be in a particularly “Christian” manner, either. Besides, wasn’t he just kidding when he said, “As a Christian…”?

Okay, I’ll stop being “uncharitable” now 🤷😃

After I posted the above, he updated his page with special rules for Eastern Catholics, many of whom have no web presence at all.

This new rule of his is 1) offensive for singling out Eastern Catholics when they’re included in the 195 (can you imagine it saying that Black Catholic bishops need to do something different?) and 2) is intentionally more restrictive than most Eastern Catholics can comply with.

It’s a way of keeping Eastern Catholic bishops off the list.
He added this to the quote…
… I’m trying to provide documentation for all the bishops listed and Eastern Rite bishops have been harder for me to track down. Thank you for understanding!
