Thomas,

Thanks for coming on and clarifying the issue. We all need to stand together on this and I am thrilled to see you here. Thanks so much for your hard work. I enjoy the website greatly and appreciate your efforts.

Peace,

thanks, babochka! I’ve included him in the list (#115).

CDB, come on, you’re just clinging to sour grapes at this point. I’ve offered you more than enough ways to remedy this. If you truly care about fixing omissions, help me. If not, there’s nothing else I can do. Everyone else on this thread is being an adult about this and we’re making progress.

I’ve called my priest and eparchy and left messages, called CatholicVote, tweeted, plussed, commented, and written here. And I said I’ll email tonight. What more help do you want from me?

And why would you stoop to calling me childish for caring? That’s the first inappropriate comment I’ve seen here.

C’mon guys…everybody take a deeeeeeeeeep breath, and chill 😃 We’re all on the same side, here, after all 👍

Thanks, American Papist, for what you’re doing!

In Christ,
Jeff

Tom - I’m Eastern Orthodox but would like to support the Catholic Church’s effort in repealing this unconstitutional law. What can I do to help? Thanks!

Don, if I were you I’d start writing letters to your bishops and Metropolitan. I think I’m going to write a letter to our Eparch, Kyr Samra.

I’m not Tom, but I would suggest contacting your leaders, fellow members of the Faithful, etc. and get them involved in writing their senators and representatives. I posted a plea for help on some Orthodox pages on facebook but haven’t had much response. Perhaps you could consider stating a thread like this at Orthodox Answers or another related forum if you are a member of them.

Information in this kit might be helpful for you as well. Obviously it would need to be tailored for your Orthodox brethren but it might give you ideas and get you started. join.catholicadvocate.com/hhs/

Peace, and thank you!

There’s a movement of non-Catholics who are saying this isn’t just a Catholic issue. Baptist and Jewish leaders are making up most of it right now. It would be great if your bishops participated in their campaigns. Or in light of the joint pro-life efforts between us this month, if they could stand with us. Or both!

Thanks! I’ll get to work on a letter tonight, and mail it out to my bishop, metropolitan, and priest, and ask them to get involved as well. This is exactly the kind of issue where we can stand together. I’ll post later the body of my letter, and in the weeks to come any responses that I receive.

I read Catholic bishops claiming that the healthcare law would cover certain abortifaciants. Could anyone provide documentation for that claim? The website I read claims differently:

“Contraception: Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and patient education and counseling, not including abortifacient drugs*” [bold mine]

In addition to “regular” birth control having abortifacient qualities as an intentional second and third back-up mechanism to its primary aim of preventing ovulation, there mandate also includes intentional primary abortifacients. It covers “all Food and Drug Administration approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and patient education and counseling for all women with reproductive capacity.” That includes Plan B and Ella.

It also words it in such a way that pregnancy is a disease, which means all abortions become therapeutic “treatment” in their word games. Archbishop Dolan is a great resource on these kinds of real people explanations.

I think there is a thread, but it’s in the private politics board.
Interesting. I must not have access to that one. Either way, some support from our Orthodox sisters and brothers would sure be helpful! Can you relate any of the trends of the discussion taking place? Are we likely to gain support from the Orthodox community?

Thanks!

Our priest just sent me a copy which I put on our church site and am emailing to Thomas.

You can see it at the link in my signature below.

Congrats on the opening of your new church. My wife and I live up in Wichita Falls but come down to DFW from time to time. We are both interested in checking a Divine Liturgy out sometime. If we decide to do it, I may annoy you with some questions.
