that Moyers is a liberal phoney that takes elitism to new heights.
You mention elitism as if it were a bad thing.
his looney exhortations
I’m failing to see what’s so loony about Moyers’ exhortations. Please enlighten me.
a person with a bad back who gets hooked on painkillers is a wee bit different from person who is a cokehead. No??
No.

You seem to think it is a good thing?

Space…do you REMEMBER him railing on “junkies”??? I doubt you listen to him on a daily basis, so you probably DON’T

AND…a person with a bad back who gets hooked on painkillers is a wee bit different from person who is a cokehead. No??

…i will not question the credibility of what you say you have heard people say, i take you at your word… rush is on record with his unforgiveness of junkies, and the local radio stations played the segments over and over adnauseum for days after the news broke on the story of his crimes…

…he’s no different than anyone breaking the law my friend…

Of course. I’m no fan of rewarding mediocrity.
Main Entry: elit·ism
Function: noun
1 : leadership or rule by an elite
2 : the selectivity of the elite; especially **: SNOBBERY **1 in choosing new members>
3 : consciousness of being or belonging to an elite

Mediocrity has nothing to do with elitism. In fact, liberals seem to be married to mediocrity.

Why would it matter? They are both hypocrites and no friend of the “common” man.
Oh really. Know why Rush is adamant on the need for tax cuts? He worked on commission making less than 20K. That meant he filed quarterly and paid both halves of FICA. About 12% back in the 1980s. Unlike others who make it, he rememebers how crushing payroll and income taxes are to those starting out. He is also for school choice which helps the poorest of the poor (and everyone else too).

Limbaugh supports pro-life causes and pro-life judges to the Supreme Court. That trumps lots of other unimportant discussion in my book.

He is not all bad, but too many worship him as a savior. He is a highly paid carny barker for the republican party. He is on the right side of many issues, but he has several public moral failings that cannot be overlooked.

If I had to choose between Moyers and Limbaugh I would take Limbaugh.

So a country should not be ruled by the elite?

e·lite or é·lite
n. pl. elite or e·lites
    1. A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status: “In addition to notions of social equality there was much emphasis on the role of elites and of heroes within them” (Times Literary Supplement).
    2. The best or most skilled members of a group: the football team’s elite.
Mediocrity has nothing to do with elitism.
It is impossible, by definition, for the elite to be mediocre.
In fact, liberals seem to be married to mediocrity.
I agree.

To get away from the ad hominems, the basic theme of the article is the sad demise of the neutral press defending liberty for all.
It never existed.
We’ve seen a little corner of the truth with Rather and the once-mentioned Newsweek. The front pages of the major newspapers in this country (N.Y. Times, Washington Poist, L.A. Times, etc.) have read like Op/Ed pages for at least the last forty years, and ALWAYS favoring the left.
It’s not always what you see, sometimes it’s what you don’t see. I’ve been involved in incidents that were “reported” in the newspaper. I didn’t even recognize the information written. I’ve also been involoved in or privy to major stories of corruption, crime and scandal in high places that I never saw in the local media.
If it happens on a local level, how much more is it done on a national/international leve?
Of course, FOX is denigrated by every other news outlet, print, network or cable but: Alan, Colmes, Greta van Susteren, Juan Williams, Mara Laisson and the biggie, Geraldo Rivera work full or part time for FOX. The corresponding list of conservatives working for CNN:
In don’t even particularly care for FOX. They get too hung up on the celebrity stuff, but at least admit the pure bias of the major media.

Strider I agree with all that you say. Especially

I have seen some things too in reporting. I have experienced a reporter who had a certain slant she wanted to present and despite the facts printed her preconceived ideas.

But if we remember the roots of newspapers we shouldn’t be surprised.
Some how we have gotten a very romantized idea of the press propagated mainly by the press. Newspapers were not printed to inform but to promote a particular view point, mostly political. They still are despite what they would have us believe of there noble profession.

…
"“Since 1988 when PBS first aired the six-part series Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, Moyers, an ordained Baptist minister and professing Christian, has ardently promoted the atheistic writing and thinking of the Scripture-bashing Campbell,” Mr. Johnson said. Johnson’s letter asserts that Moyers has used Campbell’s books and tapes over the past eighteen years to delude millions of high school and college students, lure them away from belief in the Scriptures, undermine their faith in Christ, and to profit financially. “For a professing Christian to push Campbell’s work is a flagrantly immoral, self-serving, and deceitful act. It’s the ultimate in hypocrisy,” Mr. Johnson added.

“Johnson points out that during the PBS presentation, Campbell referred to the resurrection of Christ as “a clown act, really.” Also, in his book, The Power of Myth (with Bill Moyers), Campbell predicts a happy future for humanity when belief in the God of Israel will be considered “an abomination.” A disciple of Friedrich “God is dead” Nietzsche, Campbell pockmarked his books with passages scornful of those who believe in the Judeo-Christian God, and he proclaimed the defining atheistic belief that God did not create man, but rather, man created God.”

Thank you for posting the above for me. I am happy to finally be able to post here. My glitch was a cookie problem that has been corrected.

It’s a shame that Bill Moyers was able to fool so many people for so long.

When Bill Moyers interviewed Elaine Pagels, professor of religion at Princeton, the two of them spoke of the glories of pagan sexual practices and said Christians had ‘a very negative view of sexuality’. Anyone familiar with Joan Rivers or Howard Stern would know that Moyers or Pagels’ view is incorrect

Very true although I think we’ve hit a new low in sloppy fact checking, plagarism, and even making up stories. Somehow I don’t see Edward R. Murrow in the same mudhole as the more recent “jounalists” whose stories grace the front pages of the NYT, LAT etc.

We had a recent (Pulitzer Prize winning) expose of Neil Goldschmidt the fair haired boy of the Democrat party in this state. A rainmaker and a wheeler dealer of the highest order, this man was thought to shine very brightly…until a local paper revealed that while the 30 year old mayor of Portland he seduced a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL who was the daughter of one of his subordinates! He apparently carried on this relationship for some time and eventually attempted to quiet the woman by paying her.

Of course our local liberal rag the Oregonian literally couldn’t face printing the truth. They first danced around the issue and then when scooped by the lowly Willamette Week (known for its personal ads you get my drift?) they finally admitted Neil the Magnificent had “an affair with a high school student.” Talk about protecting their own.

I too have been involved in events that were reported in such fashion that it was impossible to recognize them.

Yes it’s amazing how angry the liberal left is that Fox even exists. I do agree totally that they often mistake some dippy celebrity’s latest project as news but at least they make an attempt to provide both sides of an issue.

yet of Moyers pere, and Limbaugh, would you care to guess which manages to show up at church on Sunday more frequently?
Is Limbaugh Catholic? If he is not, there is no requirement for non-Catholics to go to a “Sunday gathering” (whatever you want to call it) led by lay people.

Going to Sunday services does equate with holiness. If you dislike Limbaugh so much, pray for him. Taking a cheap shot at him won’t help much.

Such bitterness. :tsktsk:

Thanks Dave, great article! I’ve always admired actual journalists like Moyers, and have despised radio shouters like Limbaugh. It’s nice to see that others actuall recognize the difference also.

Peace.
Why does it seem that the only way libs can get their message across is to have it funded by the government? If Moyers actually had to attract advertisers (i.e. be forced to compete), he would not have made a dime. Take a look at Air America…liberal messages, but a total failure on the brink of bankruptcy. Why? Nobody cares about their message.

Conservative talk show hosts seem to do very well in competition. Liberals fail miserably…why do you think the Libs in congress are trying to resurrect the “Fairness Doctrine”, whereby radio stations that present conservative talk show hosts would be forced (Fascism anyone?) to have equal time for liberal talk show hosts.

Face it libs: nobody cares about your message!!!

FOX puts more filth, immorality and sex on TV than any other network.

For a message that nobody cares about, right-wing pundits sure do seem to spend a lot of time yelling about it.

The Fox Network, YES. Just Horrible!

But FoxNews is different. It’s like comparing CNN with CBS.
