Question: Next weekend I have to go to my nephew’s wedding. He’s born and raised Catholic and she’s born and raised Baptist.
The wedding will be in the Baptist Church.
I’m wondering about the marriage prep of the Baptist Church.
Would you be able to shed some light on the difference between the two kinds of prep? If this isn’t something that you know about, that’s okay. I was just curious. I was truly hoping that is wasn’t just “easier” than the Catholic church’s program, and that might be the reason they chose the Baptist line.
 
This is a great resource. I hope you’re not doing this the hard way, though… the back of the (green) CCC has this Scripture-to-CCC index already. Just transcribe that; you’ll get this done much faster. I haven’t seen that online anywhere.

That is what I have been doing. It makes it much easier but it will take some time to link every citation, especailly all the Gospels. About the time I get about 3/4 the way done I am sure I’ll find where someone has already done it!:eek:

I had thought about doing this a week ago, using one of the online versions of the CCC. My program would basically take each individual page (from here, for instance), and identify which footnotes are in which paragraphs, then look at the footnotes on the bottom and parse out references to Scripture, producing a table that way.

If you don’t mind your thunder being stolen by a Perl program, I could probably get this done for you in a matter of hours.
 
COPLAND, I can email you a tab-separated file (or an Excel spreadsheet, or any other format you want, really) with the following information:
  • Section of the CCC (e.g. “Part 1, Section 2, Chapter 3, Article 11”)
  • Paragraph # (e.g. 1006)
  • Footnote # (e.g. 568)
  • Scripture (e.g. Rom 6:3-9)
  • Paraphrased? (e.g. Yes)
I could do it verse-by-verse, so Rom 6:3-9 gets 7 rows instead of 1.

The “Paraphrased” column has to do with whether the footnote says “Cf. XXX”.

Trust me, there is no thunder here, I would love it for anybody to do it. I hope you do this, that would be wonderful for Catholics to have available. Keep me posted.
 
Ok, the tab-separated file is available online.

I’ll be making my own interface to it as well, I’m sure.
 
Will the end result be like what I was doing? I am a little lost on some of the computer lingo so you might want to talk down to my level.😃 Thanks!

I’m really glad someone decided to do this. I was thinking about doing the same thing. Whew! Burden lifted. Lot of time involved in this project but well worth it in the long run - short run too;) .

Thanks. I wanted to keep with our liturgical calender, but use the Douay-Rheims instead of the NAB for scripture. I have my issues with the NAB, JB, RSV-CE. I want to provide what set the tone for what we have today, what movements lead to Vatican II and its changes. Use it in anyway you want

You can’t go wrong with the DR. When I was providing the Mass Readings with commentary I used some different versions. I eventually got to where I just went with the DR. I liked using the DR that is on the New Advent site because it had many of the words linked to the encyclopedia which allowed people to have an extra tool.

Why do you not like the RSV-CE?

Luke 1:28 is an example, not just the RSV-CE, but NAB and JB as well

Douay-Rheims And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women

RSV-CE And he came to her and said, Hail, full grace, the Lord is with you.

Notice what is missing from the RSV-CE that is in the Douay-Rheims. For the fact that it derives from a Protestant version kinda makes me feel uncomfortable to use it or have it inside the Church. I feel that some Protestant views my inflict me and lead me astray. I guess I kinda sound biased against the RSV-CE, but I don’t feel it in my heart that it is worthwhile translation for Catholics. Many people have said well, you rejected the church because you rejected Pope Pius XII’s encyclical “Divino Afflante Spiritu”. While I am not fond of the NAB or JB as I am the Douay-Rheims, I still consider the Vulgate the best translation (Clementine edition). I do have some questions regarding the manuscripts that Jerome used and the ones used to translate the “modern” bible after 1800.
