One more question. Do you happen to have one that’s comma delimited? I’m not a computer wiz but I’m trying to get this into Excel so I can sort and auto-filter.
If you don’t, no big deal.

I can make one comma-delimited, but I shouldn’t need to.
If you rename the file to have a .TSV extension (instead of .TXT) and drag it into Excel, it should realize it’s a tab-separated file. Excel knows how to handle tab-separated data.

I do hope the copyright issue can be resolved, because this tool is absolutely outstanding. You’ve really done a great service here.
My bible study is gaining steam in my parish and if numbers grow at all, we’ll have to spin off a second one (good problem to have). I need to make sure both studies are appropriately integrating the CCC into the sessions.

What is CCC Scripture index? What does that
stand for? What’s the problem with
copyright when scripture is involved?
I thought all versions of the Bible could be
just quoted without any reference.

The copy of the Catechism I own has, in the back, an index of Scripture references and the paragraphs of the CCC they are related to. My program that allows you to search the Catechism makes use of a digital copy of this index that I made myself (from the online Catechism hosted by the parish of St. Charles Borromeo in Picayune, Mississippi)… I should probably cross-check it with the hard-copy of the index in my Catechism.
Anyway, here’s a couple lines from the index to show you what it “does”:

p1s1c2a1.htm 1.1.2.1 59 17 Gal 3:8 1 Gal 3:8Nope. The KJV and the Douay-Rheims are out of copyright, I believe, but not the NAB or the RSV or the RSV-2CE. You have to attribute the translation, and if you quote too much, you need explicit permission.

A copyright, though, is only as good as the power to defend it.
For instance, in the campaign world, campaign people creating ads for the candidates have been just lifting copyrighted music to play in the background of their TV ads. No royalties are paid. Permissions aren’t requested. The composers are not too happy. Some don’t like the candidate that their music is being used with.
Some are rather poor and can’t hire a lawyer to write a cease and desist threat letter. Others are richer and can do this, but the letters written are all ‘air’. There is no threat because the campaigns are ‘judgment proof’. It would be senseless to sue any campaign because in a very short while the campaign won’t have a dime, won’t exist, etc. So, the campaigns just haul off and lift all they want without fear! So much for copyright protection.

I’ve also just developed (today) a Lectionary-Scripture index. If you want to know when we hear Matthew 16:18 at Mass, know you can find out easily.

I’ve been away for a bit and missed this thread until now. I can’t thank you enough for making a site where a person can type in a scripture reference and find out where it is cited in the CCC. I can find that info out now, even when I don’t have a full-sized CCC with me. I am someone who regularly uses the scripture citation index in the CCC. I find it useful.

This is so-o-o-o great. Who do we thank for developing such a reference? Thank YOU for finding it.
Now, I gather that any verses from 1 Samuel chapter 5 and 6 are never read during any masses. I’ve been hunting for that for ages.
I thought that maybe there would at least one verse, but I guess not. I wonder why. Not enough masses in the liturgical year?
It would be interesting to note what isn’t read ever. Do you think there is a listing somewhere of this?
(Give an inch, we want a mile…right? Never happy. lol)

It’s not quite what you asked for, but here is a summary page of what percentage actually gets read from each book. I sometimes hear the claim that the entire bible is read, but that is not so. (EDIT - I say that last sentence to explain in part why I find the summary page helpful/interesting.)
