Dear whatevergirl… God bless you, for this. I will read and re-read this, many times in years to come.

Except for my mother… who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease… I am alone this Christmas. I’m grateful for the presence of my dear mother… but every day she slips a little further away from me. It has been difficult dealing with it… since my two sisters live in other states… and seem too wrapped up in their own lives and difficulties… to come and visit our Mom.

I have resolved to give my dear mother the best Christmas I can… this year. It was so sad, the other night… she forgot what Christmas is. I had asked her, the question… just to see what she would say… and she said… “It’s Santa’s birthday”. I gently reminded her that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday. But this incident broke my heart, and made me realize… how much of her is now gone. And will never return. I am also missing very much, my late father… who passed away in 1988. So… I’ve been feeling lonely and depressed.

Your post has helped me greatly. Thank you. (((hugs))). And I wish you and yours a very blessed Christmas.:angel1:

Oh good! I ran across this earlier today, from that website, and thought…wow, isn’t this a wonderful word to everyone who is ‘alone’ for some reason or another this Christmas! That website has opened my eyes to so much, and I’m glad to pass anything I run across along.

I’m sorry about your mom. I know that must be heart breaking for you–I will keep you in my prayers…and that this Christmas will be a very special and enlightening one for you.:hug1:

I’m so sorry about your mother, and that your sisters won’t be with the two of you for Christmas. I’ll say a prayer for you and your family. May you and your mother have a blessed Christmas, and may you be able to make the most out of the time you have left with her.

If you are celebrating Christmas alone, or you are among family, and don’t have a ‘significant other’ or are not married–please read the beautiful words found through this link. For more…go to www.creighton.edu

God bless and may everyone here have a blessed Christmas!

Thank you for this, it was a blessing to me. I will be celebrating Christmas with family, but I’m single with no children and it always bothers me this time of year. This is also my first Christmas without my father, who passed away a few months ago. I’ll be putting into practice some of the suggestions in the article. 🙂

I always celebrate Christmas alone. Father and mother just leave me to amuse myself and go off on adventures, as usual. (but they do give me presents.) But last year I found out that it really doesn’t matter at all where you are, who your with,or weather you get presents. If you treasure the true meaning of Christmas (REALLY treasure it in your heart, and think very deeply about the nativity) then its impossible for anything to ruin it for you. It makes me feel very melanchony, but its a beautiful thing, and it makes Christmas truely special.

That is a very good thought. For Christmas, I actually try to avoid crowds and parties, but it is hard to do that sometimes.

I’m glad! I am sorry about your dad passing recently. I pray that you experience a very special and blessed Christmas.

Thank you for the link. I am alone, but NOT lonely. On Christmas Day I will be spending most of my time at the local Alano Club with my fellow alcoholics and addicts. My three cats will be totally unimpressed with anything I do that does not concern THEM. I have time during the day to do a lot of spiritual reading. Attend Mass, of course, and maybe do the Stations or Eucherist Adoration.

Most excellent, Andru–that sounds like such a blessed and holy Christmas you have planned…and the way it should be in the first place! We went to mass earlier this afternoon for the Christmas vigil mass, and I will try to make time tomorrow to pray the Rosary and the Chaplet. Blessings to you for a joyous day ahead! Thank you for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

PS I have a cat too…and he is not very impressed with anything, except the sound of a can opener.😉

Thank you for this posting, whatevergirl.

I am a single person with no children and although I have family nearby, I always suffer thru the holidays feeling very down and lonely. Lots of nights crying lately.

I logged onto the net tonight to see if I could find people to commiserate with…your link made me realize I don’t need to commiserate but rather look for the positives in my situation and remember the meaning of the season.

Thank you so much.

Have a blessed Christmas!

Dear MarieVeronica -
Cherish every moment - memory or no. Similar case here. Last Christmas was my Mom’s last, so this season is heartbreaking for me. She had dementia and other issues, as well as being 99 but along the way while I considered that any holiday could be her last - her responsiveness gave me hope (or kidding myself). I don’t think she realized when holidays were — On March 11, 2007, she suddenly blurted out, “Merry Christmas”. And now Alz. Dad is sort of in decline and hospitalized. So, this is not an easy Christmas for me - by any means, spending an already sad Christmas Eve in hospital - and headed today to Mom’s cemetery (if I get there) and Dad’s hospital again.

I apologize for taking space here on this in “Spirituality” but I think we are unaware of how much - besides spirituality - we share/need here. And I thank OP for the link. God bless you and your Mom. Hug her for me - for as long as you can.

Dear Conservative… I don’t think whatevergirl will mind… if I use her original post to respond to you. Thank you for your kind words. I also heard a very familiar pain in your words. And so, I’d like to send you my prayers and best wishes, as well. God bless you for doing such a fine job with both your parents. I’m certain that God is smiling down on you… and the crown you are earning for Heaven… will be a glorious one, indeed.

Thank you for the words of wisdom. I will cherish each moment that I have left with my mother… as I know you will, with your dear dad. Merry Christmas… and a very Happy New Year. 🙂

I most certainly do not mind–use this thread at your will.🙂 I want us all to be able to support one another…I think that these forums in part, are designed to do just that.

I will say–take it from someone who lost her parents by the time she was 10–I miss them every day, and just want to share with you–to cherish the moments–no matter how ill your parent(s) is/are–enjoy the moments with them. God bless, and here is a Christmas hug for you both!

Thanks. Preparing for another lonely New Year’s Eve, after a visit to my father’s where my sister came with a boyfriend, my brother with a girlfriend and I the same as always. 😉 Today my friend came and we once again got to talk about his cousin for whom I fell when I was 17 (we’re getting on 25 and it’ll be 8 years from then in January). I discovered I still missed the girl and hearing her voice recorded on his mobile phone (was showing me some family event) brought me pain. Obviously not going to forget the difference between a man and a boy because of this, but you’d bet it’s not a great subject for reflections during a lonely evening. We also talked about that girl who broke up with me in February and about some other one who ended up giving me the cold shoulder after some nice shared memories… And the fact the last nice girl I met turned out to support abortion rights. Not like we didn’t talk about his own misfortunes - and he isn’t getting it easier. He has more of a social life going on in the (extended) family, though, so he’s probably getting a New Year’s Eve party to go.
