YIKES! Who runs this racket? Satan? Old Mr Hubbard is perfect, is he? That’s amazing. So he shouldn’t need to charge people for his services then…or maybe he knows what his next life being will be and when he passed (or temporarily vacates his shell) he going to will his next life the fortune.

L Ron Hubbard is long dead. Of course there was that rumor that he is still alive, circling the world, sailing aboard his yacht… …in that Elvis sort of way…

Thanks. Why do they call it a cult? there is a church of scientology near us. i have considered going as an educational experiance. is that even allowed? good idea or bad idea? i have absolutely no desire to convert whatsoever, im just curious as to what all the hoopla is about.
Don’t go…it would be wiser to read all you can on this forum and with the links provided…you will see what is meant by cult.

It is thought that Michael Schiavo may be involved in Scientology…

Well, listen…I am adverse to doing anything that isn’t Christ-centered. They do “acknowledge” a “higher power”, but the business (er, religion) is based entirely on humanism.

Some of the “study tech” is actually pretty good, actually. Worthy of “a look”, if you will, but I vote for you NOT to put yourself, your personal information, or your dollar anywhere near the center.

I don’t mean to be overly dramatic, but as you go up “the bridge”, the Church of Scientology I is much like The Firm, a film, ironically, starting Tom Cruise. You can’t leave the firm.

AuntMartha: That sounds so creepy. By the way, there is a great site that debunks Scientology:

So until he clear the shisms from his schasms then he currently doesn’t remember where the buried loot is. So, until he finds the truth of scientology (cio and logo), his wisdom holder is to muddle and he isn’t even aware that he had loot to be lotten. Poor chap. What do you think St Peter had to say when Hub was know know knockin’ on Heaven’s door?

The Church of Scientology was established by Lafayette Ronald Hubbard (1911-1986). He was a highly successful author, publishing hundreds of novels, novelettes and short stories, most of them science fiction.
In 1950, his book *Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health *was published; it has since sold over twenty million copies worldwide. In 1951, Hubbard formed the religious philosophy of Scientology. The Founding Church of Scientology was opened in Washington, D.C. during 1955.

Scientologists follow Hubbard’s belief that a person is neither mind nor body, but a spiritual being – a soul. However, notes one website, the word “soul” is an ambiguous term, which had been given many meanings by many religions. In order to avoid confusion, Mr. Hubbard selected the word “thetan” from the Greek letter “theta” which has traditionally meant “thought” or “life”. A Thetan is the essence of a person, One does not have a Thetan, one is a Thetan.

“The magical cults of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th centuries in the Middle East were fascinating,” Hubbard once wrote. “The only modern work that has anything to do with them is a trifle wild in spots, but is a fascinating work in itself, and that’s the work of Aleister Crowley – the late Aleister Crowley – my very good friend.”

Crowley was one of the blackest figures in history, a man his own mother called “The Beast,” and one who is cited as the inspiration for the Church of Satan.

Said Hubbard’s son in an interview: "I believed in Satanism. There was no other religion in the house! Scientology and black magic. What a lot of people don’t realize is that Scientology is black magic that is just spread out over a long time period. To perform black magic generally takes a few hours or, at most, a few weeks. But in Scientology it’s stretched out over a lifetime, and so you don’t see it. Black magic is the inner core of Scientology --and it is probably the only part of Scientology that really works. Also, you’ve got to realize that my father did not worship Satan. He thought he was Satan. He was one with Satan.

From the CIC website cultinformation.org.uk/faq.html#cult:
What is a Cult?
Every cult can be defined as a group having all of the following five characteristics:

  1. It uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate and retain its members
  2. It forms an elitist totalitarian society.
  3. Its founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, not accountable and has charisma.
  4. It believes ‘the end justifies the means’ in order to solicit funds recruit people.
  5. Its wealth does not benefit its members or society.
I would say - avoid it like the plague. You can find out all you need to know about Scientology on the net. The only reason to set foot in one of their "centers’ is if you have a strong desire to be brainwashed.

CCC 675
Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.

It is not a religion but a cult…the New Age stuff…run away from it for it is laden not with good spirits, but bad…
Oops, you’re right, it is not a religion. Hollywood is gettting more and more engrained with it. It must make rich people feel good. It might make people out to be their own gods.

Fitz,

It also explains why Hollywood has such a hard time making movies that regular folks want to see. When you dump God over the edge of the boat, don’t be surprised if you sink.

Back in my “searching” days, about 25 years ago, I bought and tried to read Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard. That was the weirdest bunch of clap trap I’ve ever attempted to read. I got about halfway through it, tossed it and went back to my agnosticism.

It does make you wonder why seemingly educated people get caught up in it…weirdest bunch of clap trap seems right.

Humanism is awfully alluring…😦

The most surprising one on the list IMHO is Gretta Van Susterin. She seems smarter than to accept such malarchy.

I think so, too…do you think it true? I would like to think it a mistake… 😦

I would be relieved if I found out this was untrue. I listen to her on FOX ans she seems otherwise smart. How could someone like her, being a lawyer and analytical and all be a follower of a cult?

I typed her name and Scientology into Google and got lots of hits. She is definitely a scientologist along with her husband. There are a few websites that share some shocking news about her involvement and lawsuits.
