Last night, I was watching the Abundant Life, Father Corapi was the guest. He made a statement that resonated with me. He said and I paraphrase: that satan wants to attack the Eucharist because it is the source and summit of our faith and the way that he does and will do that is through our priests. I often pray for our priests but his statement convicted me to realize that I need to pray more and with greater fervor.

If satan attacks me he may just get me to fall (in my fall maybe a handful of people will come along at most). If satan attacks a Priest he attacks hundred or thousands. If satan attacks high-profile priests like Father Marcel Maciel or most recently Father Alberto (popular with Spanish-speaking Catholics as he reaches people through television, radio, and print) then he can affect hundreds of thousands or even millions. Today, I was listening to commentary on the Spanish channel because of the breaking news on Father Alberto. Catholics were saying that priests should be allowed to marry. I heard people so disillusioned with their faith and left wondering who they can trust. I heard people commenting that he was a man and as such it was not a big deal because men are weak. The flock is running amuck and these are the consequences. Few people are grounded enough in their faith, in the truth, to be able see beyond this. His sin will affect others as we know sin does – it is far reaching not a personal.

I know that sin comes from flesh, world, and the devil. We need to pray more for our priests. We need to desire their protection as much as we desire it for our loved ones. We will never know the temptations they face. Many of them may not be as graced as Padre Pio to contend with the devil. If you don’t already, please pray for your priests and encourage others to do the same (offer sacrifices for them/fast/etc). We need to stand-up to satan and let him know that enough is enough.:knight2:

Jessie Romero made a similar statement at a Eucharistic Conference I attended a few years ago. He said that we, the lay people have not been praying for our priests and should be willing to accept most of the blame for not getting enough holy priests. Satan and his demons are determined to weight the priests down with more harrassment and temptations than we laypeople have to endure. Only through our prayers can the priests survive in their almost impossible jobs.
If we were running a race and priests were in the race the priests would each be carrying an extra 100 pound weight (eg bags of sand). The demons would hover over each priest and continue to throw more sand at them. It would be so easy for the priests to give up and not finish the race. Each of us can take an ounce of sand off the backs of the priests through our prayers. We need to flood the race trace with prayers to at least give the priests a fighting chance. There is no one to blame but all of us who are too lazy to pray for our priests. You might say we are all committing a sin of omission by letting the priests try to struggle without our prayers.:gopray2:

It is very unfortunate but I would say that it is our duty to pray for our priests bcoz with out them we can never receive our lord in the form of bread. So lets for a second think about how we can play an active part in the battle against the satan with the power of intercession. We have the power and we have the faith and most importantly we serve the living God.

This saddens me so much. I know who Father Alberto is despite not ever really listening to his show.

It’s just that priests have the lives and faith of many in their hands and now so many people are going to doubt their faith.

I do pray for our priests and yesterday night I prayed a little more harder yesterday and I asked Jesus to make our Church grow and be beautiful and to free it from any corruption at the hands of corrupt/harmful priest.

I asked our Lord to do this no matter how painful it may be…and it is painful.

Hopefully Father Alberto is truly a good priest and he may truly repent and come back to Jesus and overcome this.

Satan knows full well, if you get the shepherd, you get the sheep (or at least many of them)!

We are falling down on our jobs as lay people, though. We are not praying near enough for our priests!

Let’s offer at least one rosary per week for our priests, each of us.

God bless!

Well, I guess he believes in God’s call to be fruitful and multiply?

Good Catholics should have children.

This is in the context of marriage between a man and woman.

A priest makes a vow of celibacy and chastity. He is married to the church.

It’s not ok for me to cheat on my husband and produce offspring. It’s not ok for a priest to cheat on his church.

This priest was very cute indeed. It must have been hard for him to stay away from tempation given that I’m sure women were throwing themselves at him. He had a moment of weakness and hopefully he will see it for what it was and come back as a loyal priest.

Either way, we should pray for him b/c he has been publicly humiliated and he must be feeling awful. He is most likely a good man and hopefully the church can move him to a different country or something so he can start from scratch.

I know of a priest who was caught with a woman and they sent him to Italy and now he’s doing really well there.

Why? Can a person not be given a second chance where he won’t be continued to be humiliated? Aren’t we supposed to forgive if someone asks for forgiveness?

This guy had an affair with a woman; he’s not a potential sexual deviant. He isn’t accused of sexually harrassing anyone at his parish. He hasn’t been accused of making advances at a minor.

You think he should be forever judged and talked about behind his back because he had a consentual affair with a grown woman?

How do you know he hasn’t gone to Confession already? If he is sorry, why not be transferred somewhere else where he can let go of his shame and guilt and build a new life serving God?

I pray for the Catholic clergy all the time - that they stay holy. I agree that a priest should not betray his vows to chastity, but I also believe that humans make mistakes and if they ask for forgiveness, they should be forgiven.

I resent this holier than thou attitude that a lot of Christians have. We are supposed to be united in helping eachother during times of despair and need - priests included! Jesus said it better than I, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”

This priest could have been lonely, depressed, desperate for love, etc. He could have had a close family member die. He could have found out he has cancer…we don’t know. Just because he seems like he has it all - good looks, celebrity status - doesn’t mean that he really had it all.

Ha ha! Is Italy devoid of young sinlge women? Perhaps they could send him to Siberia where he doesn’t know the language? LOL.

The guy isn’t meant for celibacy- good looking enough, he should be making little Ctaholics!

It’s a discipline, not a doctrine. Married clergy would help rebuild the vastly crumbled ranks of the priesthood. Countless parishes are already being served (not Eucharistically, though) by married people anyhow.

Once a man is ordained he can not be maried no matter what. Allowing someone that is already married has been allowed only is very specific situations.

The changing of a discipline can be done. But, let me tell you that this does not cure anything in the long run. Most Small parishes can not support an average American family much less a large Catholic family. Do you want a priest wife waiting tables to make ends meet? Would you like for your priest to be your insurance salesman or whatever? How about when (and it will happen) a priest or his wife is unfaithful and divorce? Or the kids get into trouble? Or if personal issues stop a priest from being available for your wedding or funeral? Who takes the priests place in an emergency visit to the hospital? And the list goes on and on.

Always beware of you pray for God just might give it to you.

You’d have quantity, not quality.

If a priest breaks his celibacy vows, it is just as likely that he would be unfaithful to his wife if he were married. So what then, you have married clergy who are committing adultery against their spouses? Look at the scores and scores of Protestant pastors who are married and have been caught in adultery. Celibacy doesn’t cause unfaithfulness but unfaithfulness does cause you to break your vows whether your are married or have received holy orders.

The whole odd thing about this is not that he broke his vows but that he did it in such a public way. I mean if he just splurged for a hotel room on the beach no one ever would have known–oh wait, maybe he couldn’t afford that because his salary is so low–maybe we should raise their salaries to avoid these issues.

Married clergy are torn, they are divided between God and their family!

Allowing clergy to marry is not solving the problem, it’s just creating more problems!!! (i’ve been married for 30 years and i cannot even serve my wife and family faithfully, much less them and an entire Parish!)

It is better to have fewer Priest who are devout and dedicated, than to have millions of luke warm priests who fail and betray Jesus and His Church!

"So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth." (Rev 3:16).

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!
