Cell phones - HOW RUDE!

Wally World is what we sometimes call Wal-Mart 😃 Wal-Marts are a big discount-type department store.

To be honest, I’m not sure how the nickname got started. The man that started Wal-Mart’s name was Sam Walton so it probably had something to do with it.

My cell phone is for my convenience. It is for me to make phone calls when I am away from home. To call home, to say I’m running late or on my way. To see if I need to grab anything at the store while I’m there.

It is NOT for your convenience to be able to reach me 24/7. If I’m not home, I’m not home. If I’m busy, I’m busy. If I didn’t have a cell phone, you would have to leave a message at the house. So leave a message at the house. I’ll return the call. Seriously, there really isn’t that much that must be dealt with immediately.

Most of the time my phone is in my purse which is in my car, or sitting on the floor under the table, or in a pile of stuff with a jacket over it. I’m not going to hear it ring anyway.

I can’t count how many times I’ve turned it off before Mass, and need to use it several days later and realize its been off the whole time.

I do use my phone a lot to make business related calls instead of making long distance calls on the land line. I always give my home phone as a call back number. I don’t give my cell number out, unless I know I won’t be home and say the dog groomer needs to let me know the dog is ready, or something like that.

But if I am running errands without kids, I want to savor the alone time. I don’t want to be intruded upon by someone who thinks they should be able to reach me at all times.

Great point.

I hope we are going through a societal ā€œlearning curveā€ with regard to cell phones (and texting, instant messaging, etc.), but we sure have a ways to go.

I was in Mass a couple of weeks ago and a guy’s cell phone rang THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. He finally got up and left, but I was astounded by his ignorance.

I’ve got one for you. Not 20 minutes ago I stepped downstairs to use the washroom, and there was a guy standing there doing his business while he talked away. TMI, I know, but, well, there you go. :^P
One of our outside salespeople received a very long voicemail from a customer that ended with a very obvious and apparently unapologetic background flush.

Also, people who feel the need to hesitate when answering in order to ā€œblessā€ the rest of us with their ringtone are annoying.

I think the nickname may also have been inspired by the 1983 National Lampoon ā€œVacationā€ movie. (One of those with Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold.) The original movie featured a fictional amusement park named Walley World. Somewhere along the line people started calling Wal-mart Wally World.

I’ve done that with my BF - sometimes when we’ve been out with friends, and he’s being particularly sweet or kind, I’ve texted him a love note telling him how proud I am to be dating him. It makes him feel nice, without making anyone else feel uncomfortable, especially if we’re with single friends who wish they were dating someone.
back in the day, the only tool available for conveying those sweet nothings were the eyes!:kiss4you:

Let me tell you what a delightful exprerience it was to be on the ā€˜receving’ end of a potty call. One of my coworkers called me from her cell phone to give me some pertinent information on a patient while ā€˜multi-tasking.’ GROSS!!!

I’ve been in the restroom more than once doing what I THOUGHT was the appropriate thing to do (using the pot) and had someone in the stall next to me on the phone! I was actually embarrassed and felt like I need to ā€˜hold it’ for fear of being rude during their phone call! I’m sitting there thinking, ā€˜do I go, do I not go . . ???’

You have the right-of-way. Go for it. (And let the chips fall where they may?? )

I’m one!

But, there used to be another Wally World in the county where I used to live. The Sheriff’s name was Wally, so naturally the jail was Wally World!

Back to the subject, I was just there day before yesterday, and sure enough someone in a stall in the ā€œladiesā€ was chatting away. Not only was she chatting, but she put one person on hold while she answered another call! All I can say is, EEWWWWWWW!

God bless us,

Ruthie

God bless us,
I don’t know. On a 1-to-10 scale of EWW I’d give that about a 0.5.
