I would so use this app, but mostly my issue is I forgot to turn my phone back on and then I don’t see texts from hubby telling me to pick up something on the way home from mass at the grocery store. 🤨

Every day at least 4-5 go off. Today somebody answered their phone and was having a conversation during the readings.
If this is actually the case, you should certainly speak to your pastor about it. I am not sure why posting on the internet was seen as a preferable option.

it is disrespectufl and you are right to feel anger over a phone going off in Church / and or during mass.

IF you are up for it, you can suggest to your priest that an announcement be made before mass that all cell phones be placed on silent/ vibrate or to be turned off. Pretty simple, an gets the point across. An usually who ever is playing the music for the mass or the person who preps the church, a secretary whom ever might not mind doing so, but just addressing the issue to your priest might give him enough validation that he needs to know he isn’t the only one annoyed by said cell phone(s) going off.

An if that doesnt work you are left with being as polite as possible by telling the person to stop being so rude or like you said go to a different parish and hope for better.

People looked at me weird when I brought in my EE-8 Field Phone…

I’ve missed two calls when I was flying air ambulance because I keep my phone in baggy pant leg pocket. Fits better there and not in the way never felt it vibrate. Now that I’m airline crew I’m on reserve right now that’s 22 days a month 0400-1700

I keep my phone on at mass sometimes. It’'s a bad habit, but I just can’t help that my mind wanders sometimes. I’ll play a game or read on my Kindle app.

I would hope that most people know that a phone can now be used as a tablet that can be used to access the daily readings.
Even my 84 year old, technologically oblivious mother knows this.

And at any rate, why are people watching people in the pew anyway? It’s Mass. That never ceases to amaze me.
I don’t use those apps precisely because I’m afraid people will think I’m surfing or otherwise disrespecting the mass. Just not comfortable with it. Still use a St Joseph’s Missal.

That happened to me once, and I was mortified! It was a new phone, and I thought that I had it on silent. I did not know what to do. I tried to silence it. I did not want to look like I was texting someone. It truly distracted my attention during mass. I did finally figure out how to turn it off. Lesson learned - do not take new phone into mass until you really know how to operate it. It was a long time before I even trusted myself that it was actually on silent, so I left it in the car. However, when the weather was really cold I was afraid of ruining the phone. I would have left phone at home, but roads were iffy, and I wanted to have on me if I had car problems. Now, I know how to operate my phone. And, now that weather is nice, I will leave in car.

It made me more understanding of when someone phone goes off. Most people do not have it on intentionally. Once, a lector was preparing before mass, and had a phone call from his wife. It was kind of comical, as you can hear him yelling that he was at church. He did not know how to turn phone on silent because he got another call. However, they were before mass actually started. Phones can be quite embarrassing when they go off in places they shouldn’t.

We now have a sign on the door to shut off cell phones. And, yet, we still hear someone’s phone going off.

I’m not going to lie, yes, sometimes I do. Mea culpa. Sorry everyone.

Maybe you could try leaving them in the car… And try to pay attention, knowing that you have no phone or internet available.

Once I heard my phone go off during mass, and I was mortified. I thrust my hand in my pocket to shut it off and it wouldn’t stop ringing.

My phone finally stopped ringing, and I heard the women behind me say, “I can’t talk now. I’m at mass.”

I still think the Priest thought it was my phone ringing instead of the woman with the same ringtone.

Yeah, I’ve tried that before. Then my mind wanders to if my phone is getting stolen or not. I get so worried that I can’t pay attention at all at mass!
