During his homily yesterday, my priest espoused the idea that we should allow “part-time” priests, married priests, and female priest!!! I was so blown away! What blew me away even more was that a bunch of people actually STARTED CLAPPING!!!

Report him to your bishop. The notion of women in the priesthood has been definitively dealt with.

I sent him an email this morning, as did a friend of mine. I struggle with going straight to the bishop 1)because I’ve always believed in working your way up the chain of command and 2)he’s recovering from a liver transplant.

That’s actually a good idea. I’m just tired of the deliberate leading astray of the people of God.

That would have been a perfect time to walk out of Mass, per an earlier thread…

Hmmm, pray for the man, and if he should persist, I would write to the Bishop. I wonder if from what he said if he isn’t a “part-time” priest already in his devotion ot the Catholic Faith. Sad.😦 Thanks and God Bless.

I am not sure what part-time priest meant. As for married priests, can that be clarified to mean already ordained priests allowed to get married or married men allowed to be ordained as priests? There’s a difference there. Women priests? No dice. I would put my foot down there.

Genesis315:
People need to leave the pontificating to the pontiff.
I’ve noticed lately that , while there is a shortage of vocations to priesthood, there is little shortage of vocations to the pontificate.

I think it might mean doing something like the permanant diaconate, except with priestly ordination.

The man involved would have a secular job, but assist at a parish on Sundays.

This has not been unheard of before (which is NOT to say I agree with it!).

In the Eastern Catholic chuches, the priest in smaller parishes might have a ‘second job’ or trade to make ends meet.

So he might run a store or farm during the week, but say the Divine Liturgy on Sundays.

I would probabaly be racing you to the door while I was ripping up the collection envelope (taking the money out of course) and tossing it in the aisle as I left.:bigyikes:

How sad. Very sad, but the flip side happened in my church. My priest preached about why females were never gonna be priests - then he sailed right into homosexual relations, premarital sex, abortion and all the biggies. I almost broke out in cheer .

He spoke on about 30 min and I wished he could have kept on going. I waited for him after mass and thanked him. There were several other young families there thanking him as well.

Sad for you and your parish to be hearing. I am very blessed where I am.

The pulpit is not a place for a preist to spread his politics around to his parish. It is a place for the preist to preach the Gospel. His job is to give an objective homily and administer the sacraments. Not to say that he is in clear disgareement with the Holy See.

I might have, but I am one of the music leaders. Kinda hard to walk out when you have an obligation like that.

yeah, nothing like taking the entire choir with you as you mark your protest with a walk out.

What he was talking about with regards to part-time priests is that we should ordain people for limited functions. i.e., person 1 is ordained for confessions only, person 2 is ordained for the Eucharist only, person 3 for… He also suggested that we could ordain people for a limited amount of time. As for married and women priests, his big thing was that we have a shortage of priests, and if we withdrew the restrictions of it having to be a celibate male, then we wouldn’t have the problem anymore. After all…it only takes 3 signatures from Rome to become a priest (he said that over and over on Sunday).

That is AWESOME!!! I would LOVE to have a priest stand up there and give us the truth about what The Church teaches about stuff! We tend to get the generic “God loves you” kind of homilies. This relatively new priest (he’s been here for almost a year) has said some really off the wall stuff.

Your priest knew what he was doing. Go to the Bishop.

He can have all of the opinions he wants, just can’t preach that at the pulpit. Pope John Paul II said that the discussion on female priests was closed. We’re not even supposed to be discussing it anymore.

I had a priest like that once. My spiritual advisor ( a retired priest) told me to report him and even gave me the name and phone number.

This is God’s church. Either this priest is Catholic or he’s not. Either he subscibes to Rome or he doesn’t and if he doesn’t then he is a heretic and needs to be reported.

Remember, it is not an act of love to let him go on this. I believe that there is a special place in hell for heretic priests and I can’t stand the thought of anymore going there. Pray hard and fast for him but definitely report him.
