Change light bulbs for Lent, Catholic coalition urges

Just want to point out that these come from the Catholic Coalition for Climate Change - not the USCCB.
 
Wouldn’t it be great if we had a Catholic Coalition for Repenting and Returning to God?

The USCCB always supports this group. Why do they keep attempting to push a **political **agenda during Lent? Remember last year and the “New Way of the Cross” according to social justice norms? (Which, incidentally, was taken off the USCCB web page after cries of outrage!)
 
I thought I read somewhere that the “green” light bulbs can cause headaches?
So basically someone wants us to offer up headaches for Lent?

There was a long thread on the CCCC not too long ago. It seems they have updated their website. 😉 They no longer claim the support of the whole USCCB, only two committees.

I think it is fair to say that the USCCB has thrown at least some support to the CCCC. It’s not accurate to say that the USCCB approve of or is behind every CCCC initiative. Nothing is truly supported by the USCCB unless it is voted on at one of their twice yearly meetings.

BTW, I (thankfully) missed the New Way of the Cross. :eek:
 
I intend to stock up on incandescent bulbs. This unscientific politically-correct drivel disguised as spiritual counsel is disgusting and demeans what real sin is and the price Christ paid for our redemption.

We do. It’s called your local parish church and there’s a fellow there who’s available and who’s been empowered to absolve you of your sins.

Have you had those headaches?

I don’t get them, yet most of the light bulbs in my house are the energy-efficient ones. It might depend on the person.
 
The Whole point though is how should light bulbs and garbage bags become a Lent issue period.

As somebody else already mentioned in this thread it is degrading.

And why would the USCCB support this Environmental Issue no matter what the liturgical season of the year is.

Since when does the environment become an important Church concern

This is secular not of having anything to do with the Church

Seriously, why do we have a Catholic Coalition for Reproductive Choice, a Catholic Coalition for Climate Change, a Catholic Coalition for Church Reform? These guys are just unhappy with one or two Church teachings but they want to remain Catholic so they write their own Magisterium focusing on the teachings they don’t agree with. It’s really sad. I hate it when non Catholics think that these organizations actually represent the Catholic Church.

I think I’ll join.

I’ve tried to use those spiral bulbs, in fact, for now they are in most sockets in my house. That’s why I’m straining my eyes when I read. In our cold climate, the lost energy from the incandescent bulbs simply heats our homes.

What ever happened to being stewards of the earth and taking care of it. Isn’t that Church teaching?

Yes, but who decides how to be stewards of the earth?

Have you ever read how to take care of one of those light bulbs if it breaks? Do you know that they have to evacuate classrooms if one breaks? You also know that you can’t just throw those light bulbs away. They contain mercury. Doesn’t sound very earth friendly.

The EPA lists the steps to clean up a broke bulb. Much different than getting the broom and dustpan.

Absolutely. But it’s also Church teaching that the focus of our spirituality for Lent be on prayer, almsgiving and fasting. Changing lightbulbs doesn’t fit any of those categories.

Joke some kids played in a nearby area near to me last summer. When someone was not home they replaced that person’s poarch light with a red light bulb. Why exactly did they think that was funny?
