Changed my views on Homosexuality

I am in no way an expert but I think we might find in future studies that initial exposure to sexual experiences or environments have a much stronger influence on many people’s direction in their sexuality than we currently think.

I suspect that this would include sexual orientation for a portion of the community.
There is a reasonably strong correlation between experiencing sexual abuse and later having same-sex attraction (at least among males). It is not necessarily a causal relationship, however – more research needs to be done.

That is very different from saying that most gay men have been abused. Most gay men were never abused.

Gay sex is about pleasure, enjoyment and intimacy
With all due respect, there are a lot of drawbacks with committing Homosexual acts: there is a high chance of disease (with Homosexual acts), deciding to degrade God’s gift which includes using the body in a way God did not design it to be used.
Catholic sex is about not breaking the rules and, of course, making babies.
The reason these rules are here are because we do not want to degrade God’s gifts. Catholics would use it for its proper use (which is aiding God in the creation of life, and bonding between husband and wife).

Isn’t Catholic sex also about pleasure and intimacy? It’s not ONLY about procreation, is it?

Too often it seems to be said or implied that the Church should accomodate the prevailing societal views on such issues, that the Church should ‘modernise’, that to fail to do so will see the Church shrinking in numbers.
The argument to make same-sex ‘marriage’ a Christian teaching fails Biblically. So the next argument is ‘relevancy’, which isn’t Biblical either. Truth isn’t a popularity contest. Christianity is about what God ordained not what humans marred by sin think.
Not only does the relevancy argument fail Biblically, it fails in terms of data. The ‘modernisers’ aren’t flourishing, they’re shrinking very fast.

Church doctrine will always follow the Natural Law…
…If that’s the case, why do so many people find themselves attracted to their own gender, while finding the opposite gender repulsive?
I think you probably know the answer.

Life creates anomalies all the time. Some of these assist in the survival of the species and they become mainstream traits of a future, slightly evolved species.

Or the don’t and they die out.

Just because something “is” doesn’t automatically grant it the status of “ought”.
Personally, I think Natural Law needs a reinterpreting, to account for the rise in worldwide population and subsequent increase in absolute numbers of people with non purely heterosexual inclinations.
No reinterpretation necessary. Our species now transcends the environment (and has for centuries) and will evolve in ways that may be difficult to predict.

And I wouldn’t be so quick to label homosexuality as a primarily genetic manifestation. The science on that is still very leaky.

Very cogent point, MBoy. Where CD45 got that idea, I have no idea. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, certainly does not teach that.

Extreme oversimplification that is 90% wrong.
I’d say more like 10% wrong.

The Church has legislated pretty extensively on Catholic sexual life.

Here is an interesting read that shows some sad facts. It was one of the things that made me realize that this act is not an act I should pursue

Church “legislation” is the positing of doctrine that must be followed by all. The Church doesn’t legislate sexual morality outside of the Commandments. Has the church written extensively about the proper use of the sexual facility, of course. Has the Church rendered opinions about proper conduct, of course. However as to the import of your statement, you might want to read John Paul II’s writings and those of Christopher West and others that have commented. Outside of adultery, fornication, and a malicious sense of “lust” the church offers its teachings and insights. As to the state of the soul before God as it relates to ones personal sexual conduct, much is left to one’s conscience and His/her relationship with the Almighty.
I reiterate, 90%, well maybe 80% if you accept that procreation is one of the two primary functions of properly expressed human sexuality.

Again, I am not arguing about the Church Teachings on this. If you are highly religious with a low sex drive, this should work for you quite well.
So you are saying that sexual morality is relative, that there are no set “laws?” If it feels good, do it!. That is the sexual morality you espouse?

Sure. And there’s lots and lots of rules - as was partially @CD45 's point.

For example, a single parapalegic or quadrapalegic can’t marry because he can’t consummate his marriage.

Another - if a good Catholic couple engage in sexual activity and the male climaxes in some place other than the inside of the vaginal orifice, he’s likely committed a sin.

There’s plenty of others, but I think you get the point.

Why? So single and celibate men can tell me everything I need to know about sex, marriage and family? They’re certainly not speaking from experience, are they? 😅

The partial point was that Catholic sex is very regulated.

And it is…

Admittedly I have only skimmed over this thread, however the assertion that the Bible is the source of a Godly marriage is a bit weak. A common thread of the role of women in the Bible is that they are either not much better than property valued mainly for virginity or sub-servant. Yes, I’m sure the Bible has some exceptions, but the overall theme is a very male concentric story.

Also, did you ever notice that every verse used to condemn homosexuality only concentrates on men. This with the one exception is Romans 1:26 -27 and even then 75% of it is dedicated to the horrors of men having sex together. Also, note that the way it is written expresses shock that the sins have gone so far that even women are having are doing “unnatural things”. Lesbianism is not specifically mentioned here.

What is the take away here? I think it is not unreasonable to say what is being condemned is effeminate behaviors by men. As I said earlier, most things in the Bible are male concentric and doing such things does not make you a “man” in Iron Age culture.

With all due respect, this was not needed and is not funny. Just to let you know.
Not intend to be.

It is probably the single most significant thing that gives rise to the difference between the Church’s take on sex vs society’s (or even non-Catholic Christianity’s).

To be clear, I certainly respect the Catholic view of sex. However, there are so many “do not’s” involved that when you finally do get to the pleasurable part it may not seem like all the effort was worth it.
As a married man, this is not my experience, at all. The “rules” – such as they are in marriage, and they are minimal – are ways that help my wife and I not exploit each other or feel exploited. That’s a good thing.

William Shakespeare: “Th’expense of spirit in a waste of shame is lust in action.” So said a homosexually attracted man – but obviously a very clear thinking one.
