Heard about the changes to the Roman Missal coming down the pike (I guess coming, have a feeling they’ll be delayed).
One of these changes is supposed to be to the Confiteor. I like the inclusion of the mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa from the Latin to the English …my own fault, my own fault, my own great fault (or something similar). I was greatly encouraged because I like the adherance to the old Latin.
But then something came to mind that burst my bubble. When was the last time I actually went to a church that actually recited the Confiteor? Answer: The last time I went to a Tridentine Rite mass.
So much for the change if the Confiteor is never used!!!
To anyone out there who may read this thread…can you tell me why the Confiteor is never recited at a Novus Ordo Mass anymore?

I was just sitting here wondering the same thing.

Of course I hear it every week in the EF Mass. 👍

But, other than that I can think of exactly one parish where I have heard it used in the last 5 years or so. And there were probably 50 parishes in that time where it was not used. 🤷

We pray it every Sunday and a few times during the week in the ordinary form.

It’s an option for the Ordinary Form of the Mass (NOT the “Novus Ordo Mass”) and we do it quite regularly at my parish, just not all the time.

In my parish the Confiteor is used almost every time. Occasionally, a visiting priest or a particular priest will use Form C (troped Kyrie). It’s the same in other parishes I’ve been to, on the Asian subcontinent.

No one in my parish knows Form B: a visiting priest once said “Lord, we have sinned against you: Lord have mercy.” and everyone said “Lord have mercy.” “Lord show us your mercy and love”. Silence. Then some people in the front gave a weak “Christ have mercy” which stumped the priest.

We always use it…and everywhere i’ve gone they use it…only one time i went to someones first communion…

How about sending some of these priests to the diocese of Columbus?

Every single time I have ever asked a priest about possibly using the Confiteor I have gotten the exact same response - “We don’t do that here!” The response is so uniform that I’m beginning to think they teach it in the seminary. 😃

Seriously, with the exception of Holy Family and St. Patrick in Columbus I don’t remember the last time I have heard it used (not counting EWTN Masses).

The Confetior is the option most heard in our parish, in fact, hearing any of the other forms is very unusual.

Yup, we say it every Sunday and I think every day during the week…

That’s kinda sad…well hopefully with the new translation priest realize that it might be better to use the confiteor

Especially now that they have included the part where we strike our chest 3 times

“mea culpa mea culpa mea maxima culpa”
through my fault mu fault my great faul" (something like that)

I’m w/ James0235 on this one…can you guys send some to the Diocese of Owensboro, Ky?

At my parish, we almost always use Form C on Sundays; Form A is used on some weekdays. I don’t remember the last time I heard Form A on a Sunday. Form B is used so rarely. And the current English translation of it is atrocious; and some priests don’t know it’s supposed to be followed by the Kyrie!

Lucky You!!😦

I know I’ve heard it at least a handful of times in the last month. It hasn’t gone the way of the dinosaurs quite yet.

As a matter of fact, the other day at a “regular” parish, the Agnus Dei was sung in Latin during a daily Mass by a visiting priest. And some people knew enough of it to sing along.
