what was spoken as the Pope’s body was being carried? Was it a chant of some kind about the Saints?
It was stunningly beautiful!I believe that they chanted the Miserere and the Litany of Saints.
The traditional chant is essentially the same (with a few minor alterations for sylllabic differentiation in languaes). Here’s the translations side by side:if the sound was accurate on cnn, it was the litany of the saints. what i heard sounded a lot like english, so i was suspicious that we were not hearing what was really being sung. of course, the other languages would sound very similar since it is just a reading of names. also, i am unsure what the latin, etc would sound like musically. what i’ve heard and what was on cnn sounded the same. again, i doubted that that would be the case.
either way, if you heard the same thing i did, it was the litany of the saints. it consists of a listing of the great saints and the congregation responds “pray for us.” in the litany here in america that i’ve heard, there is periodically inserted “all you holy men and women, pray for us.”
as far as that link goes, i’ve never heard it that way. too bad for me really. The traditional chant is essentially the same (with a few minor alterations for sylllabic differentiation in languaes). Here’s the translations side by side:

Do you mean a copy of the text or a recorded copy of it sung? There are many musical settings of the text commercially available.Thank you for your replies. You have all been most helpful. One more question: Where can I find a copy of Miserere. – Roger W.
Annie, the Litany of Saints was chanted in Italian, commentator was translating to English from time to time as a voiceover.
Rolf,Most awsome was the Eastern Rite chant but I never saw or heard a translation of that. Anybody know what they were chanting?
