The money quote:
And we also have the duty to avoid prostituting our Catholic identity by appeals to phony dialogue that mask an abdication of our moral witness.
I think Archbishop Chaput just politely called Rev. Jenkins a pimp.

God Bless Archbishop Chaput!!
and :byzsoc:

***God Bless Raymond Arroyo ***of **EWTN !! **
*He stood firm in his Catholic convictions through out the entire interview on CNN as the Notre Dame speeches were given. *
***What a Blessing, **to have within the Church, so many of these intelligent, dedicated, **and *faithfilled men!
May God Continue to Richly Bless Them All.

And here is Bishop Chaput, speaking of Fr. Jenkin’s introductory speech:

Most graduation speeches are a mix of piety and optimism designed to ease students smoothly into real life. The best have humor. Some genuinely inspire. But only a rare few manage to be pious, optimistic, evasive, sad and damaging all at the same time. Father John Jenkins, C.S.C., Notre Dame’s president, is a man of substantial intellect and ability. This makes his introductory comments to President Obama’s Notre Dame commencement speech on May 17 all the more embarrassing.

Archbishop Chaput:
The most vital thing faithful Catholics can do now is to insist – by their words, actions and financial support – that institutions claiming to be “Catholic” actually live the faith with courage and consistency. If that happens, Notre Dame’s failure may yet do some unintended good.
If Catholics do so, Obama’s speech and award will be remembered as a watershed event in the US history of the Catholic Church.

But will they?

I saw that, too. Awesome jab at Fr. Jenkins. Archbishop Chaput is an excellent writer and speaker. And with 70+ bishops who spoke up against this whole event, I think the American prelates are beginning to grow a backbone.

Another great quote by one of our bishops:

Bishop Martino has spoken out critically of the choice by Kings College, sponsored by the Holy Cross congregation and located within his Diocese, to invite Senator Robert Casey to speak at their commencement exercises. The Bishop said: “I do not believe he has the moral stature to stand before the graduates of a Catholic college to address them about their futures and the challenges they will face when on the most important issue of the day—the sanctity of human life—he cannot muster the courage to oppose the pro-abortion agenda which is currently being promoted in Washington.”

I fervently hope so!!!:gopray2:

I’ve known Charie Chaput since the 1980s and he has always been a bright and orthodox social scientist and theologian, as well as a very holy friar.

Br. JR, OSF 🙂
