Charges initiated against Pope for crimes against humanity
TWO GERMAN lawyers have initiated charges against Pope Benedict XVI at the International Criminal Court, alleging crimes against humanity.

…]

They claim the Pope “is responsible for the preservation and leadership of a worldwide totalitarian regime of coercion which subjugates its members with terrifying and health-endangering threats”.

They allege he is also responsible for “the adherence to a fatal forbiddance of the use of condoms, even when the danger of HIV-Aids infection exists” and for “the establishment and maintenance of a worldwide system of cover-up of the sexual crimes committed by Catholic priests and their preferential treatment, which aids and abets ever new crimes”.

The lawyers are the same two from the: German lawyers want Bible outlawed thread.

first of all, condoms can fail and allow HIV to still be spread. What’s spreading HIV the most is the culture there in Africa, which is being remedied by the Church, in which there is much promiscuous sex, and strange beliefs about the cure for AIDS. I read that some part in Africa, some believe, that sex with a child virgin, will cure the disease.

Second of all, no one is forcing anybody to be Catholic. You can leave the church at any time, and many, unfortunately have. and many believe they are still Catholic, when in reality their belief system or actions have automatically excommunicated themselves from the church.

:twocents:

It looks like a couple of lawyers are out to increase their public profile.

It is interesting how lawsuits like this make international headlines when they are first filed, but then we never seem to hear any more about them. I guess having the case thrown quickly out of court doesn’t make for as good of a headline.

Irish Times misleads readers about crank lawyers’ submission to ICC charging pope with crimes against humanity: protectthepope.com/?p=2582

Thanks for posting this. My own threads appear ridiculous compared to the importance of what your shared.
This morning I’ve heard a program on Catholic radio about us Christians should be ready for Martyrdom to defend our faith in the secular world. This is certainly an illustration of it.

Please somebody clarify this part for me:
quote: They claim the Pope “is responsible for the preservation and leadership of a worldwide totalitarian regime of coercion which subjugates its members with terrifying and health-endangering threats”.

And what an incredible and bizarre statement:
*the Catholic Church “acquires its members through a compulsory act, namely, through the baptism of infants that do not yet have a will of their own”. This act was “irrevocable” and is buttressed by threats of excommunication and the fires of hell. It was “a grave impairment of the personal freedom of development and of a person’s emotional and mental integrity”. *

Also, I can’t believe they are taking the Church to Court for forbidding the use of condoms as a crime against humanity??? Advocating abstinence as a celibate and until marriage, faithfulness within the marriage and openness to Human Life, how are those crimes against humanity???

Let me finish with this one:
Catholics “threatened by HIV-AIDS . . . if they do not protect themselves out of fear of the punishment of sin threatened by the church, they become candidates for death.”

What about RESPONSIBILITY? Because some believers refuse to live up to Church standards, does it deprive them of being responsible for their actions? (not to mention the studies that show that condoms do not lower the AIDS rates but abstinence does as in Uganda for example).

And a more philosophical point: I’ve never understood, even when I was an atheist, the concept of "some things (like contamination with HIV) are making us “a candidate for death”. Every human life is by definition bound to die someday. If you are alive, you are a candidate for death, aren’t you? I’m not sure if many posters will follow me on that one but I’ve always had a sense that my life on this earth has a beginning and an end. The stance of the Catholic Church on the use of condoms is not going to make me more mortal than I already am, is it?

I laughed pretty hard here.

I think the lawyers are mixing excommunication with execution, something many Fundamentalist Protestants have done in the past.

Oh, and excommunications can be healed, easily. Just repent.

Prediction: Somehow at least one of these two if not both will welcome Jesus into their lives. At first they are trying to destroy the Pope. But just wait and see, if it is ever reported it need not matter but they will be in union with Christ. They have doubts now but there is an opening for Christ to enter. In the end this will happen.

Just recently some atheist abortion lawyer has done the same.

From Abyssinia’s other link to an article on the Irish Times, it seems to be they are more than narcissistic lawyers.
What Patsy McGarry doesn’t report is that Christian Sailer and Gert-Joachim Hetzel are two lawyers who belong to the “Universal Life” sect, ‘a religious group that follows the teachings of self-proclaimed prophet Gabriele Wittek. Wittek, who claims to receive messages directly from Jesus Christ.’
Pretty much explains the hostility towards the Holy Father.

What a bunch of nonsense. Germany never gives up in trying to destroy the Church and now the Papacy. If they are looking for something to do, how about sue all the nazis who persecuted and killed thousands of Catholics and Jews. Wait, that means they would have to sue themselves. Not a bad idea.

This link is not about life insurance, it’s about the lawyer in question - Gabriele Wittek.

Wow.

It says they believe in reincarnation and vegetarianism.

Reincarnation == back in the meat. :hypno:

Hey, don’t mess with Germany, just because of these two.
People give all German’s a bad rap, just because of Hitler, and really that’s not fair.
That’s like if I was to judge Russia based on Stalin, and we really should have war crimes trials for the Russians. THey have a lot to answer for.
Speaking of which, Israel also has a couple of war crimes on their belt as well, If you really study the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Good point. I seem to recall a pretty important Catholic who is German. What is his name again…? 😛

Obviously this is a bad thing, but if I know God (and I think I do) its certainly not unlikely to think He can use this to his advantage.

Imagine a well publicized trial where good Catholic Lawyers/Apologists can present the Catholic beliefs…Could easily convert lots of people!

Either way, I’ll be praying that God’s will be done in this (and every) situation.

Virtually anyone can bring a charge before the International Criminal Court.

The problem is, in some countries, a warrant issued by that court can be served on any person, including those “protected” by diplomatic immunity". That would mean, if an actual indictment is issued, the Pope could not travel to those countries, without risking arrest and imprisonment.

This is the same situation that President George Bush has, which resulted in his canceling a trip to Spain.

The lawyers attempting to bring these charges are virulently against any form of religion. They (and the people they represent) are doing everything possible to destroy any religious influence in all of Europe.

You all had better do some research on the International Criminal Court and exactly what it can do. It’s powers are frightening to anyone that comes from North America.

I would be willing to bet that there will never be a trial and that this article is the last we will ever hear of this lawsuit.

It’s easy to make a media splash by filing ridiculous law suits, but that doesn’t mean they’ll go anywhere.

On the list of things to be concerned about, I’d say this ranks somewhere towards the bottom of this list, perhaps right above “meteor hitting earth and destroying all life”. 😛

Remember when Dawkins/Hitchens explored the same “crimes against humanity” nonsense against the Holy Father before his Papal visit over here? It went kaput (pun intended).

That’s right. It reminds me of a Shakespeare quote…something about sound and fury…
