Wow!

I know here in the US, a dear priest friend of ours spoke of being at a healing service done by Fr. DiOrio. He said as he sat there doubting what was happening, he looked over at the man sitting next to him. The man was in a wheel chair sitting in the isle with an amputated leg. As Fr. Mike watched, the man grew a completely new limb! He said he had never doubted God’s healing power since then. 😃

WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE!

Greetings Church
I have been at several of Fr Di Orios healing Masses. I have seen the blind see, the deaf hear and folks in wheel chairs get up and push them away. A young girl fro our parish was in a horrible care accident and broke her neck she had a cage of some sort screwed into her skull. She was unconcious in a coma when Father was in town. He prayed over her and she had a total and complete healing. Even her brain waves became normal again.

Does anyone know what Fr Di Oreo is doing lately?

The Holy Scriptures support the Pentecostal/Charismatic “charisms.” To argue against the Movement of the Holy Spirit throughout the ages, is to argue against the Word of God, the love of Jesus Christ, and the work of the Holy Spirit. This may be the “sin” that cannot be forgiven - as the Bible says. It is grounded in pride and an unwillingness to be open to the many gifts that Jesus Christ has lavished upon his Church. God is not limited by what we think is proper worship.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES: Acts 2;4, Acts 10:46, Acts 19:6,

Give thanks to the Lord on the harp; with the ten-stringed lyre chant his praises, Sing to him a new song: pluck the strings skillfully, with SHOUTS OF GLADNESS [nothing subtle about this exortation?] PSALMS 66:1 “Shout joyfully to God, all you on earth, sing praise to the glory of his name…Let all on earth worship and sing praise to you, sing praise to your name!” PSALMS 68:5 “Sing to God, chant praise to his name, extol him who rides upon the clouds!” PSALMS 81:2 Sing joyfully to God our strength; acclaim the God of Jacob. Take up a melody, and sound the timbrel, the pleasant harp and lyre. Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our solemn feast - for it is a statute in Israel!” PSALMS 89:16 “Happy the people who know the joyful SHOUT; in the light of your countenance, O Lord, they walk!” Many more not listed here.

If Father Hardon claimed that “the gift of tongues” is from the devil, I would like to have documentation of that fact. Give us facts, not fiction. Father Hardon was a well-respected priest. I can’t imagine such a statement coming from his mouth.

The “gift of tongues” is available to every person on this earth - Catholic or otherwise, lest we sin by our religious pride. The language of worship of the one true God lays dormant in each soul. God created human beings to worship him…read your Bible.

I like to make this allegory: The gift of tongues is like a huge record which exists in the deepest recesses of our soul…the soul of everyone created by God. The only thing that is required of us is to put the needle to the record to hear the sounds and language of worship that is inspired by the Holy Spirit. A truly beautiful spiritual phenomenon.

Some people are gifted with unknown tongues, some with languages that are still in use. What makes you think the language of God is English? What makes you think that the language of Heaven is English? Again, a show of religious pride and narrow thinking.

The gift of tongues has given me a powerful prayer language which has enriched my faith life immensely. It is not a gift given to certain individuals or an elite class of believers - it is given to anyone showing a strong desire to receive this GIFT - and knowing how to put the needle to THEIR WORSHIP RECORD.

Read the books written by Fr. Robert DeGrandis, S.S.J., on the gift of tongues and other charisms of the Holy Spirit. Truly inspirational!
Well, I guess many STILL!!! Don’t get it. The language of God in THE LANGUAGE of the official mMagisterium of the Church, not bable. The Pope really ghas the gift of tongues, he speaks, english, spanisn Italian, Latin, Greek, etc, REAL languages. Many are deceived by demons to beleive that only they can secretly speak to God in a SECRET code language which in linguistics, really does not exist. VERITAS(truth) not fiction is needed here. fact is what the church officially teaches, fiction is evryone’s little personal whims to how they beleive God should be worshiped.

This Mass confusion is why I and about 20 of my friend have decided as of today to ONLY attend the latin Tridentine Mass(approved by this archdiocese: Indult) in which those in attendence are in the majority 20 somethings and 30 somethings, I am 32 years old, my friends in their 20's and 30's. Oh, yes, the Pope in his 1988 document: "Motu Propio Ecclesia Dei" gave us the right to once again attend the Latin Tridentine MASS.
No Christain merengue, electric guitars, drums, or nuns dancing in leotards there. Oh, yes, no macarena Brazilian dance either.:dancing:

I thought ALL Catholic Masses are "healing Masses"? According to the Church, since Christ is present in the Eucharist, he HEALS the body and soul of all who receive Him in a state of grace.

Are you saying that it is okay for a Catholic to be part of a protestant evangelical sect such as the pentecostal church??????? That is not what the church teaches, and is TOTALLY wrong. ALSO, not every person is to interpret the Holy Scriptures to their own whims. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS THE LAST AND FINAL INTERPRETER OF THE CATHOLIC HOLY SCRIPTURES. To say otherwise is disobedience and heresy.

Good Morning Church
Good Morning misericordie

misericordie, I think you misunderstood something. When she referred to charismatic/pentecostal, she indeed meant Catholic.
You see for us oldtimers, the term charismatic and pentecostal is interchangeable. The pentecostal refers to Pentecost not the protestant denomination.
I, personally attend only Catholic Prayer groups and Services. If they start leaning away from the Sacraments and picking up too much protestant vernacular, it simply is not for me.

You are absolutely right that the Catholic Mass is a healing Mass. So is Confession and the Sacrament for the Sick. All of these Sacraments give healing. I am amazed that more people are not healed from illnesses and such when receiving Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. It was verycommon in the early Church.
In this particular instance that you commented on, she spoke of a Charismatic healing Mass.

I believe what we mentioned in some of our posts regarding healing miracles should be seen at every Catholic Mass.

I had friends in Southern California who committed themselves to only attending a local Church that had Latin Masses. I went with them and it was like going back in time. The ladies wore mantillas, many knelt to receive Communion. It was so quiet and the music brought back some lovely memories. My friends have been so happy there. The blessings they receive are so visible. They had never been really happy with some of the changes. I am forever happy for them. I pray that you, too will be the same.

🙂

Greetings non-Charismatic Catholic people!

I was wondering what’s so wrong with dancing at church? The Psalms say to praise the Lord with the dance…or do you consider that an “Old Testament thing” that nobody needs to do anymore? If so, let’s just throw out the OT.

Now I don’t mean wild, stupid, MTV dancing, nor do I mean freaky stuff like writhing in the floor and barking and other nonsense. Hand lifting is also mentioned…I can’t remember the exact reference but it says something to the effect of “lifting up holy hands, without wrath, without doubt.” And that’s in the NT.

Dancing isn’t necessarily showy and entertaining if you’re dancing to the Lord. You speak of the joy you have…wouldn’t a natural expression of that joy be to clap (also in the Psalms) dance, or raise hands?

Or are we throwing out Psalms today? 😉

Hi all 👋

First off I’d like to respond to Curious in the previous post: There is a time and place for everything. Dancing is not bad, neither is uplifted hands, etc. But mass is a totally different story…remember we are talking about the holy sacrifice of the mass…its not the same thing as a praise and worship fest (which is also a good thing). This is when Christ is physically present in our midst and requires greater reverence than any other time that we are in the presence of the Lord. I might be wrong but I don’t recall scripture describing the Levitical priests dancing the Macarena in praise of Yahweh while splattering lamb blood on the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies 😉 In summary: dancing in praise of God= Good; dancing at mass=not good=distracting and irreverent. There’s a whole thread on the horrors of Liturgical Dance on this board; believe me it doesn’t lift the mind and spirit to God to see immodestly dressed young girls dancing badly.

Secondly, on the Charismatic movement in general: So far I’ve only had good experiences with the CM. I recently attended a “Life in the Spirit” seminar at my parish. The speakers were passionate about Christ and theologically sound (Thank Goodness). I think sometimes tongues is stressed too much; there are other gifts such as faith and wisdom which I think are FAR more important. I was glad to see them clarify the whole “baptism of the spirit” thing; I think sometimes people mistake it for a sacrament.

Overall I really think people need to be careful not to jump on charismatics too quickly. Remember, by their fruits you shall know them. I say are they:
  1. Loyal to the holy father and the magisterium
  2. In love with our Lord Jesus, especially in the Eucharist
  3. Devoted to our Lady
  4. grounded firmly in the truths of the church and not guided entirely by emotion
  5. grounded in scripture and the proper interpretation of scriptue
If the answer is yes to all these I say let them babble in “tongues” as much as they want as long as they don’t presume that those who don’t speak in “tongues” aren’t being “led by the spirit”. A spiritual superiority complex really turns people off.

Some people just aren’t charismatic. I don’t think I am. I enjoyed the LiTS seminar but 20 people in a small candle lit room speaking in “tongues” created a resonance that scared the bejeebers out of me. Not my bag of Freetos :tiphat:

Peace!:bounce:

Yes, but I prefer dancing spiritually {:dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: } = ❤️

Misericordie: You did’nt have to tell us that you are a Tridentine Mass lover. All of the Latin Mass lovers I know show the same religious “elitism” demonstrated by your comments. The theme in your group must be: It’s our way or the highway! I find this attitude VERY egregious and uncharitable. Certainly, NOT “Christian.”

It reminds me of a joke: A Baptist came up to the gates of Heaven and asked to be let in. St. Peter opened up the gates and said, “Welcome, but please don’t make any noise.”

An Evangelical came up to the gates of Heaven and asked to be let in. St. Peter opened up the gates and said, “Welcome, but please don’t make any noise.” The same thing happened to the Protestant and Lutheran.

Finally the Baptist, Evangelical, Protestant and Lutheran decided to ask St. Peter why they shouldn’t make any noise. His response was: "Because the Catholics are over in that section and they don’t think anyone else is here!

We’ve offered you every resource and documentation that is available to prove that the Catholic Charismatic Renewal is scriptural, is inspired by the Holy Spirit, approved by the Pope and Bishops, and enriching our lives and the lives of millions. It is gift from God available to ALL who desire the experience that Mary and the Apostles had in the Upper Room on Pentecost Day, and that continued to be experienced all thru the history of our Church.

And yet, you dismiss the credibility of our testimony, offering no proof, no documentation, just the prideful notion that you are the REAL Catholic, and the rest of us are suspect. I suppose that sophistry goes with your academic credentials.

You were not saved on your merits, but on Christ’s.
To dismiss the work of the Holy Spirit because YOU do not approve of what’s happening in the Charismatic Movement, speaks for itself.
It reminds me of the Gospel warnings of avoiding pointless arguements. To that end I say so long. You enjoy your “section” of the Church and let the rest of us enjoy ours.

I find it intresting that in my albiet limited experiences with the Charismatic movment, that it tends to be an older crowd that participates in it. Also I will re state that the Charismatic movment is on the fade, despite whatever spinning some may do to indicate otherwise. In the diocese I used to belong to, Sacramento, the Charismatic movment was largely unseen and unheard from. Sure there were prayer meetings at a couple of parishes, but it was largely out of sight. At my current diocese, the Charismatic Renewal is agressive in advertising in parish bullitens, but again they are quite small and attract an older crowd.

As with things that are more involved with emotion rather than substance, they tend to burn out down the road and wither away.

Arlene, let me get this right, ALL of us who Attend onlt the Tridentine Latin Mass OF PAPAL INDULT(do you know what that means???) are elitists who have no idea what we are talking about? Well Arlene, if pointing out certain evangelical/pentecostal feely, feely, protestant attributes of a group is being according to YOU elitist, well, so be it. However, then don’t forget that in the group would be Pope John Paul II who gave his seal of approval and Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos who is the protector of the Eccesia Dei Commision. Your argument here if full of fallacy not only because it is very subjective, but because it attacks ME the messenger, rather than the message. This is very common in certain charismatic members when traditional catholicism, AND THE OFFICIAL LITURGICAL AND TRADITIONAL TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH ARE POINTED OUT TO THEM, just as baptists, evangelicals, mormons etc. when the teachings of the catholic Tradition are pointed out to THEM too.
Dominus Vobiscum, et cum spiritu Tuo. ALSO, JNB said it best above, the old members can continue having their 5 member prayer groups in charismatic parishes, and who THEY tend to be elitist, because i have met many who place themselves apart from the Pastor of the Parish, despise Marian Devotion, devotion to the Saints, and all that smells authentically catholic including at times, the Hiearchy.

Good Morning Church

Good Morning JNB

I have to respectfully correct you. I live in the Sacramento Diocese. The Charismatic Renewal is alive and well in most areas, not the Northern part of the Diocese, I am sad to say. We do not get much attention up in the Redding area from our Diocese and there are other reasons being dealt with.
I assure you, SCRC is very active and still growing. The conference in September has near 15,000 people attending. Check out www.scrc.org.
Other diocese throughout the state are also active. I receive Newsletters and talk to leaders.

I lived in Sacramento County itself, and while there were some parishes that had life teen and some that had upbeat liturgical music, the Charismatic movment had very little visibility. I know St. Ignatius in Sacramento has Charismatic prayer meeting, and a parish in Davis is connected to that movment, but other than that it was unseen and unheard unless one considers upbeat liturgical music charismatic.

As for the SCRC, that is a movment based in Southren California, and 15,000 attendees out of a base of 7 million baptised Catholics in So Cal is not that impressive.

Misericordie:

It was YOU who started this thread on the ATTACK. You keep throwing spitballs at the Catholic Charismatic Movement and then when someone stands up to defend it, you play the game of “king of the hill” because your group is “traditional” and has a Papal indult to celebrate the Tridentine Mass ! You don’t call that elitist ??? You don’t call that devisive??? You don’t call that mean-spirited ???

There is enough room in the Catholic Church for a diversity of authentic and approved spiritual styles. You go to your Latin Mass and I will go to my Charismatic Mass. Amen.

This is just the kind of hair-splitting our enemies like to see us do.
