bluhhhherrr (akward shaking), however McDonalds has hit it big now, which is worse…
i’ve got some great memories from that McDonalds, too. 😃

suffice to say, London is amazing.

I’m sorry but that is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard! As someone who lived there for a couple years all I can do is shake my head. Please, Della, don’t add to the stereotype of self-absorbed, ignorant Americans.
Well, I don’t mean for those who know something of England’s rich and varied history or who’d love to visit sites other than Buckingham Palace, which is all the typical uninformed American tourist wants to see. That’s the kind of person I was referring to–the kind that eat up what they read in the tabloids and who climb on the altars to take pictures and touch the paintings in the Tate with their greasy McDonald’s fingers (if they even go to any museums in the first place, that is). 😛

AMAZING culture, diversity, beautiful buildings, lovely people (and men with really good manners, i might add!), fun night life, lively politics, news stations that actually report NEWS, soap operas with people who look normal- sometimes they even are over weight or have bad teeth, imagine that!, easy access to organic food…
I know, whats with the soap opera thing, I was watching neighbours the other day (I know, neighbours…) and all of the people under 30 who star in it look perfect, I’m sure that not everyone in Australia has flawless good looks.
shall I go on? can you tell I miss it??
hmmm only just… 😛

Oh, I’m very happy to learn that. I haven’t been over there for quite some time. The last time I was desperately hungry. Thankfully my uncle took me to his pub where I could get some salad. But there were other things in pubs which I believe some people consume with considerable bravado but which seem truly horrible to my jaded eye. Like black eggs. http://bestsmileys.com/eek/10.gif In London no one can hear you scream. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

As for the street meat or, as it is known in Wales, roadkill: Americans, do not take this lightly. Mexico has no fury that compares to London kebabs. This puts hair on your chest. And your feet and your tongue and your eyeballs. Shudder. Consume at your own risk. I believe kebabs were the true reason for Waterloo, and not the inclement weather. Why do you think Napoleon was holding his tummy?

Please do. I hear Mornington Crescent is lovely this time of year, as long as you don’t go soffadariva. 😉 By the way, have you read Charles’s book on English architecture?

Ah, the Tate! I think I know the painting whereof you speak: Joseph Beuy’s ‘Grease on Fingers.’ I gather that it grew from his renowned ‘Fat on Chair.’ Very uplifting.

I am glad they are finally together… He never should have married Diana. He always loved Camilla, but to keep Mummy happy, he did what she wanted. Look at the lives he ruined, by not doing a gutcheck.

They wasted so many years.

I wish them well, but have no interest in hearing about “who is cheating on who”. As many years as it took for Charles to make an honest woman of Camilla, it is hard to believe that he is cheating on her. The tabloids will print anything to sell a paper. Maybe we will all get lucky and the “throne” will fade quietly into the night.

Love and peace

:rotfl: hahaha. that was great.

No, haven’t read Charles’ book but I have a friend who works for his foundation the Prince’s Trust… she always has nice things to say about him.

She had the nerve to not be satisfied with the ultimate dream of marrying the heir to the throne, but actually demand that he love her as well!
Of course she expected him to love her! She was a 19 year old girl.
Charles should have married Camilla many years ago before he even met Diana or Camilla married Bowles. They loved each other.
Instead, their actions cost 2 marriages and 4 kids of divorce.
I hope they are happy. The price was high.

And what exactly is wrong with that? 😃

She is catholic yes, that was a case to try and prevent their marriage, there is a document that states royalty should never again marry a catholic. It is also far more fun learning about Kings with 6 wives leading to a church reformation… 🙂
She’s isn’t Catholic, she’s Anglican. Her first husband is a Roman Catholic AND he married her in an Anglican Church without his own bishop’s permission. If either of them cared enough, they have a good case for nullity. He may have had a decree of nullity by the Church, for all I know. The law of the UK is, in fact, that the Head of State may not be, nor be married to, a Catholic. Anyone in the line of succession who does marry a Catholic looses their right to inherit the throne. There is some movement to have the law changed.

Indeed - while this has been debated quite a lot, she must be because as you correctly say

There may well be a movement but it is frankly unlikely to happen. It would require a co-ordinated efforts by 15 different countries (!). For more information on why, this is an interesting article:

I pity all involved.

Charles was forced into a marriage to Diana (I know not physically but in that position its hard to refuse a girl you are expected to marry.) He loved Camilla…but for his public image he was supposed to marry someone like Diana. He realized he was not interested…it was a bad marriage…and his affair with Camilla was not the right thing to do. However, Diana wasnt an angel just because she was beautiful. I truly believe Charles loves Camilla…itd be one thing if he tossed Diana aside for one beautiful 18 yr old after another…but he has been with Camilla for years…and not to be mean but he wasnt after her looks!

Diana had issues of her own, and was also forced into a really public marriage. What was she gonna do, turn down the prince? Then he of course didnt love her, and cheated on her. She, understandably, developed major issues. Her charity work is to be praised, but I dont understand why people paint her as so angelic and so victimized. She had her own problems and wasnt the innocent little girl waiting at home for her husband. I dont see why the media is still so fascinated with her.

Poor Camilla…all they do is call her ugly and make fun of her. I also strongly disapprove of her adultery…but I do not believe she is a bad person.

I think the biggest victims are William and Harry…its just awful for them to lose their mom like that.

ha ha love it. It’s funny how they say “KAY BOBS”. My friends and I still laugh about late nights out at Leicester Square where the only food option was “street meat”. 😃
OOOOHHHHH how I miss Kebab night…every high street needs one! I can’t find one to save my life over here!!! I had some of DH’s gyro meat the other night at dinner in a greek restaurant, but it just wasn’t the same…sigh – that, and I so miss my scones and set cream tea at the Almonry behind the Ely Cathedral…

Yikes! Why did you have to say ‘cream tea’? Now I won’t be happy until I hunt down a tin of Devon cream, scour the market for some decadent rare jam, fry myself up some scones, and make myself a decent cup of tea. Sound of heavy breathing.

I wonder what kind of jam Chuck and Camilla have on their scones. Does anyone know? 🙂

I could care less about these two. I also have no respect for a system that tells one whom to marry whether they are in love or not.

Lovely Cathedral, Ely, shame it is Anglican really.

Did you ever go up the Octagon? I did a couple of years back, it was very interesting…

The strange thing is that Charles would not have been allowed to marry Camilla when they first hit it off, back before either of them had married anyone else, because his bride had to be vetted with his mother and all her advisors. You can say “oh, he could abdicate”, but would you so willing to cast your family aside, cast aside the only identity you have been given, and in such a public and irreversible way? How many people could do that for someone they have barely been allowed to get to know, especially when history teaches that having a mistress is essentially de rigeur in his position?

Diana also reported that she very nearly backed out of the marriage at the last minute, but her sister told her it was impossible, since “your face is already on the tea towels.”

It makes one wonder if Charles’ first marriage was even valid. One may wag their fingers at the sins, I suppose, but it was such a tragedy. It is so hard to imagine growing up in their places. That being so, how can we so easily imagine that we would bear their trials better than they did?

It makes one wonder why little girls are still encouraged to be princesses in the first place. Even on the assumption that we all go through a healthy “delusions of grandeur” stage in childhood, there ought to be far better ways to imagine oneself in long dresses and tiaras.

God have mercy on them all. On us all.

My feeling about this is let the past be the past. As for someone being 19, Diana expected him to love her. Perhaps…But for all we know Diana could have known it was an arranged marriage. After all she had her doubts too. Perhaps she decided it was worth being Princess.

I’ve heard Charles friends say that Charles did try to make his marriage work, and that the affair with Camilla started after his marriage was on the rocks, and basically dead. For all we know that could be the case. I read somewhere that Diana wanted Charles to make Camilla an honest woman.

My feeling is that it was a long time ago, the affair and we don’t know the whole story. It seems like Camilla’s ex is remarried and there is probably a valid sacramental case thing. I read somewhere that Camilla’s ex husband said the press was unfair to Camilla. Neither is Catholic so there’s no need for an annulment process. We know that the Prince of Wales is not a philander at the very least since it seems like he’s been faithful to Camilla for years. At least he didn’t trade her in for a newer model.

If his kids can get a long with her and she makes him happy. She seems like she’s a lot more stable than Diana emotionally. Then, I think thats’ all that can be looked for in this situation. I think both of them in someways have more than paid via the public scrutiny over their affair and may be for it in heaven if they haven’t made it right with the Lord.
