And what exactly is wrong with that?
Oh, nothing šŸ˜‰ it’s just a far cry from Eastenders… not quite such a far cry from Coronation Street though… šŸ™‚
I wonder what kind of jam Chuck and Camilla have on their scones. Does anyone know?
I would wager a guess at Charles’ own brand (ā€œDuchyā€) of blackcurrant jam, I have talked about this before, but it is absolutely delicious, alas there are no words suitable to desribe it’s great taste. 😃

…Diana had many problems of her own, she was Bulimic you know.
There’s a good justification for Charles’s adultery.

Lovely Cathedral, Ely, shame it is Anglican really.

Did you ever go up the Octagon? I did a couple of years back, it was very interesting…

Mike
No, I couldn’t go up b/c when we did the ā€œtouristyā€ tour, I had my 4mo old with me…they frowned on me taking him up…LOL. We lived in the shadows of the cathedral (new developments by the A10) for a year…still prefer when we lived out by the hospital on the edge of town…that was absolutely beautiful. That all being said, it is nice to have good pizza and bagels again…LOL…tho I miss my hobnobs too…and fresh picked produce from that black gold out there in the fens…crud, we’re going to have to go back…when the kids are older tho…

The little catholic church down the road from the cathedral was sweet if you ask me…with the exception of the ā€œChristmas traditionā€ that seemed to follow us…one year an older woman passed out in the back, and the third year we were there, Fr Tony had a stroke on Christmas Eve…ON the altar…it was awful. Minor stroke, but still freaky…

The people in the Royal family never live a normal life. I feel sorry for them. Prince Charles was restricted in his life in so many ways and there seems to be so much dysfunction. I do think he is a good person, and I don’t condone any tabloid mocking of his marriage. The tabloids lived off of Diana for years, and they still put her on the conver whenever they want to pick of sales.

Since we don’t have the monarchy system here it is unusual for us. We do tend to glorify certain people- like Hollywood types or perhaps the Kennedys. Yet that is not a fair comparison to the British Royals.

I do hope that Prince Charles and Camilla enjoyed their trip and were treated well here. As far as the tabloids go, no one can control that silly distorted look at things. I think the MSM will be civil.

Hmm. One part of the stairs is really really narrow, so that may be why. Fortunately my claustraphobia had taken the day off šŸ™‚

Hmm, I don’t know which one you mean  - I’ll have to go seek it out sometime.

Mike

Back in the day, King Edward VIII had to ABDICATE the throne when he wished to marry a divorced woman (Wallis Warfield Simpson). . .they became the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Both dead now, may they rest in peace.

Today there seems to be the idea ā€œno problemā€ for the proposed King of England, who is also the head of the Anglican Church, marrying a divorced woman.

Things have changed in just under 70 years.

Well, if you head down the high street towards Littleport/1101, past Newham st where the police station is(I think?) on the right about 1/8mi on the left is church st (again, I think…) – the church is directly across from the school – I can’t remember, but I think it was the Kings school of Ely…(that’s where we always parked). It’s a quaint little church, maybe 200 could fit? The deacon was always my favorite – DH said he looked like Santa…LOL. The Kebab house was one block over on Market street from the High St…good Donner Kebab…sigh – oh, and every thurs at the market there was a ā€œtea guyā€ from Bury who carried THE best teas I think I tasted in the three years there…I still have a kilo, even tho it’s been three years, I store it in a cool dark cupboard and while weaker, it’s taste is still delicious…my mom gets excited to come visit b/c of the tea…forget the grandkids, the tea is always first on her list of things to do when she arrives…LOL.

If you haven’t had a cream tea at the Almonry tea room (behind the Mary Chapel of the Cathedral) you haven’t had a proper tea in Ely…he he.

Cambridge eh? Not particularly attached to anything in Cambridge, although I did always enjoy a stroll from the mall to the market square…and it was the home of the disney store and gap/gap kids…so that was always good for a taste of ā€œhomeā€ at a significantly inflated price…(I think the pound was $1.70 when we left). Oh, I did love Auntie’s Tea Room down by the colleges…

thanks for the memories!!

Diana always reminded me of someone suffering from the ā€œCharlie the Tuna syndromeā€. Because Diana is deceased, Charles can remarry, but not Camilla, as her spouse still lives and she is still spiritually married to him. Their union does not have the joy of a valid union-no matter how ā€œhappyā€ they appear. When Camilla’s ex dies, I guess they will then have a valid marriage.

Oh, I’m sure you’re right. Years ago, though, my cousin and his friend drove me to Devon one day. So beautiful. The English countryside is so sweet. In the afternoon we stopped at a big barn. A woman brought a table out and set it up for us with linens, china, and silver. And then she served us tea, scones, homemade jam, country butter, and cream so thick you could stand a spoon up in it. I had no warning.

Ahh…that sounds absolutely scrumptious!! I know the cream you’re talking about – it was thick as marshmallow…but twice as good…you had to scrape it off the spoon onto the lightly toasted scone…I always put the cream on first then the strawbs…mmm!!

One thing I never got a taste for was the marmite…oh, and the sponge cakes – waitrose always sold them, and they looked so good, so I bought one, and it tasted like a dish sponge…lol – our cakes just have so much more sugar, I guess. (ps, should we be at the water cooler?)

Adultery is adultery and I don’t think we should be trying to find excuses for why they did that. In doing so we are descending into the area of moral relativism, where nothing is wrong and nothing is right as an absolute.

Pope JP II once said we should learn to call white white, black black, and sin sin. I forget the exact wording but the message is clear.

In charity we should pray for the salvation of their souls and for all those who have been led astray into sin because of their example.

Ah yes, how I remember that, upon my trip to Devon I felt like I had entered a different country… šŸ™‚

I read an article this morning about how they had stopped off at this secluded little town which is apparently often hostile to foreigners, but however they really enjoyed their trip and were treated brilliantly.

I quite disliked London to be honest although I do kid around quite a lot in order to get along with my family over there. I had no obstacles to loving the countryside, however.

Yes, I gather they are visiting organic farms.

Don’t knock it Mike, remember we have two Cathedrals in Norwich, one ā€œnickedā€ by a Henry (the eight that is), the other built for us by another Henry (Henry Fitzalan 15th Duke of Norfolk) between 1882 and 1910, and I know which one I would rather be involved with, ours costs about Ā£3,500 per week to run the other about 5 times that.

When old Henry pinched all the Cathoilc churches in England he actually (and I would imagine very unintentionally) did us a favour.

He also said we should learn forgiveness and not to judge.

Forgiveness has nothing to do with Charles’s fitness to be king.

We are asked not to judge each other’s hearts. We have been given the faculties of reason in order to assess each other’s behaviour so that we may not be tempted by the occasions of sin.

Yeah, but removing all the beautiful works of art…you can still almost picture how incredibly beautiful it was at one time…before they scrubbed all the paint etc. off…

Fair point šŸ™‚ I don’t object to not ā€˜having’ most of them, but I have some affection for Ely. Probably just because it is the one I have visited most.[1]
