The attack occurred on January 7, 2015, so we are nearing the anniversary.
Charlie Hebdo’s anti-God cover is unfair, says Vatican paper
Vatican City (AFP) - The Vatican’s newspaper on Tuesday criticised French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo for a front cover portraying God as a gun-wielding terrorist to mark the first anniversary of a terror attack on the publication.
A million copies of the special edition are to hit France’s newsstands on Wednesday with a cover featuring a bearded man representing God with a Kalashnikov slung over his shoulder, accompanied by the text: “One year on: The murderer is still out there.”
In a commentary, the Vatican daily Osservatore Romano said treatment of this kind towards religion “is not new” – and stressed that religious figures have repeatedly condemned violence in the name of God.

In an editorial published in the first issue following the killings, the staff of Charlie Hebdo poked fun at some of the public figures who had joined in shows of public support. The editorial said:
What made us laugh the most is that the bells of Notre Dame rang in our honor. We would like to send a message to Pope Francis-- who also was Charlie this week: We will only accept the bells of Notre Dame ringing in our honor when it is Femen who make them ring."

The people at that magazine are beyond contempt. I’ve often wondered what makes one so bitter and angry towards other’s personal beliefs?

Pathetic, really it is.

I’m all for freedom of speech but this is just disgusting.

“If a good friend speaks badly of my mother, he can expect to get punched, and that’s normal. You cannot provoke, you cannot insult other people’s faith, you cannot mock it.”
I still find that unsettling and disturbing. People were not punched they were killed in cold blood. It’s not normal to go on a shooting rampage.

The Charlie Hebdo drawling doesn’t bother me, because how you see God is how you see yourself or how you others. If they really think that about God, then how much of it is psychological projection? Maybe they are blaming themselves subconsciously.

Having eight of your friends and colleagues shot dead would do it, I should think.

Charlie Hedbo does publish a lot of vile stuff, but that image to me could easily be seen as representing violent extremist religion, not all religion. It is not just a God figure, after all, but one with a gun.

But one should note the difference between criticism of a false narrative, and murdering people whom you disagree with. True followers of God through Christ are taught to reprove with charity and humility.

Having eight of your friends and colleagues shot dead would do it, I should think…
Their vileness happened well before their colleagues were shot, so that could hardly be considered causation.

But we are discussing this cover, which does seem to be prompted by the anniversary of the shooting.

For a magazine that is known for tasteless ‘humour’, the French equivalent of MAD magazine, or arguably worse, this was fairly tame.

Yes, this cover…which is prompted by the 1 year anniversary of a shooting that happened because of past vile material produced by this mob. You can’t quantify the issue, it’s all related to their rubbish the print.

Murder like what happened at Hebdo is never justified, however neither is the rubbish they produce.
