Chicago Church Leaders Roast Rahm Over Chick-fil-A Stance

Cardinal George of Chicago is one of the church leaders in Chicago who are blasting the Chicago mayor’s words that “Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values,” as the restaurant chain seeks to open a location in Chicago. We are part of Chicago too, these leaders maintain. The president of Chick-fil-A gained the mayor’s animosity because he made it clear he does not personally support gay marriage, stating that he is “supportive of the family–the Biblical definition of the family unit.”

I guess my values are not “Chicago” values, at least as defined by Rham. But who is he to announce what “Chicago” values are? Even if he is mayor, how can he speak for all Chicagoans, especially in a clear and devisive issue like this? Pretty arrogant thing to say, in my opinion.

He’s not my mayor, so it’s not my immediate concern. But if my mayor said this, he would get an earful from me.

I wish the the Bishops would “BLAST” the Obama administration. Stop being politically correct and touchy-feely in their mild words of criticism. They should start using the word “EVIL” and “CORRUPT” when refering to the Obama Administration. In fact if they referred to the Democrat Party with these same words they wouldn’t be off the mark. The Catholic Bishops need to take the gloves off before its to late.

I’d even settle for “wrong”.

It’s pretty simple, really. If you’re not part of Rahm’s base, if you’re not going to vote for him, you just don’t have Chicago values!

I would too. I think we toss around the word “evil” a little too freely and some of the political posts tend to wander pretty close to being uncharitable.

We can say that we believe what the administration is doing is wrong without calling the person “evil”-let’s remember that it is the sin we condemn not the sinner.

As a lifelong Chicagoan, I am embarrassed by Rahm’s version of the Democratic party. It is NOT the party that I grew up with in the 60’s and 70’s, in which many of the aldermen were Catholic ,most of the others were Christian, and even the Jews then, were all PRO LIFE and PRO MARRIAGE.

Now we have secular modernists running the party and that is how they want to run things. It’s a shame that my vote has to be for a Mormon whose stance on many things important are unknown or possibly “right”

I’ll take this as applause for Tietrack, who correctly used the term, “Obama Administration”, instead of the person. You also have my applause, Tietrack.
 
Obama and the Democrats act in what they perceive as America’s best interests. Nonetheless, their secular attacks on the Catholic Church, directly or otherwise, concern me greatly.

I feel the same way. I cast my first vote for JFK, makng me way old. Neither he nor his party supported same sex marriage, abortion, or removing religious freedom. Neither did the party of LBJ or of Hubert Humphrey. It wasn’t me that lost my moral bearings, it was the party.

I think most of the bishops have been pretty clear about blasting the policies, but they expect the people in the pews to connect the dots to the authors of those policies. Most of the bishops have at least one doctorate, many have two. Most of the people in the pews, and especially those who sleep in on Sunday, could not pass a basic test I used to give to confirmation candidates.

I personally wrote a letter to the editor of our local paper on the HHS mandate, but it was not published, probably because I referred to the mandate as evil. I believe the bishops are now doing heroic work on preaching the truth, but they are not being heard by the people who need to hear them and accept the message in their hearts.
