We do let them take part, they’re not barred from normal Church activities. That doesn’t mean we can overlook sinful behavior if they chose to engage in it; and we’re certainly not going to rewrite Church Doctrine just to be more “inclusive,” or to make our horrendously immoral culture ‘happy’.

Archbishop Cupich should have a heart to heart with Archbishop Chaput.😉
 
Receiving Communion is not the answer. And this is coming from someone who used to not be able to receive.

The change I think will help make people not feel “left out” would be returning the Communion fast to 3 hours (or more).

That way more people will be sitting in the pews (refraining from communion) and less people will feel like “only the mortal sinners miss communion.”

I personally believe this would be the most merciful change, and could have a positive impact with believe in the Real Presence
 
“I did have those voices as part of my consultation,” said Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich. “But I do think that we could benefit from the actual voices of people who feel marginalized, rather than having them filtered through the voices of other representatives or the bishops.” The quote from the link makes it clear that what the bishop is suggesting is that they take part in the synod–i.e., that the synod fathers hear their voices directly rather than indirectly. He speaks of those who feel marginalized. (In that respect there might also be traditionalist Catholics who would like their voices to be heard.)
 
Archbishop Cupich appears to be favoring the idea of opening communion to homosexuals as well.

Sounds like it to me.
 
So in good conscience I can go and mug Cupich and he’ll give me communion, without confession and return the loot! Neat.

What a joke…
 
I think it’ll do me a lot of good, I mean in good conscience I feel like this is what God is calling me to do, like, who am I judge right? 😃

All of us, including the AB, will still have to answer to God anyway you look at it.
 
Allowing communion for divorced and remarried is not new. I know of two different instances where the people could not obtain a decree of nullity, and both couples were readmitted to communion by their priests.

Whether they did the right thing or not, I can’t say. But I do know of this; one happens to be a family member.

What an interesting take, Phil! I had not considered that possibility. Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Brisbane keeps talking in his blog about how both of the two camps (complete abandonment of Church teaching vs immobilism where everything stays the same) are unsustainable, but that there are creative possibilities in the middle. I hadn’t really considered a practical application of what that would mean, but I think your suggestion is both practical and very possible! So now you just have to write to Pope Francis to suggest it…

Please explain to me how standing fast on the commandments of Almighty God and the teachings of Jesus are considered “unsustainable”.
If the Gospel, the Bible and the comandments are not sustainable, the Christianity is nonexistent. There is no middle ground. There is truth, and there is heresy. Period.

I like this idea too. The problem is that there are probably too many people going to communion who should not be. Staying in the pew makes you feel like a marked sinner. Extending the fast would not only provide for a more reverential preparation but provide those who can not receive worthily with a acceptable ‘cover.’

Back in the days when a fast from midnight was required, it was not often commented on, but widely known that if you really couldn’t receive because of mortal sin but did not wish to advertise the fact, the discreet solution was to inadvertently break your fast by taking a drink of water.
