Chief exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth says Devil is in the Vatican

Father Gabriele Amorth is obviously entitled to his own opinion, but I disagree with him greatly on this matter.
 
It’s comforting to know that the faithful continue to fight the good fight. If only the Vatican would do the same.
 
Hate to break the news to him, but every single person on this planet is in the same struggle between good and evil. This is why we are all called to arms in the spiritual war. It’s been this way since the fall of man and it’s not going away until our Lord comes again. The fact he’s attacking the church itself proves he, himself is losing his own personal battle, pray for him to have strength to see through it all.

I note also that the article claims he says that he has dealt with 70,000 possessions in a 25-year period. That translates to roughly one case every 3 hours 15 minutes, day and night, 365 days a year. Seems a lot to me.

Just as a point of of interest, the only other references I’ve found to Fr Amorth merely state that he is an exorcist in the diocese of Rome; but in the article he’s called ‘the Holy See’s chief exorcist’. Since that’s not quite the same thing, can anyone clarify his actual position?

I don’t know why anyone would be shocked, or even doubtful of it. Satan is going to try harder to torment someone the more devout a person is. So since we all are tempted by the evil one, and since some are more tormented than others, why wouldn’t the most holy of people? As far as I have learned (not that I am an expert in demonic possession) but I think demons go after the most holy of people, including victim souls. Not just “evil” people. So why is it so far fetched that the Vatican’s excorist would find them in the Vatican? I’m sure that suffering illness wasn’t the only torment the Pope had. Not that I’m saying he was possessed, I’m not saying that at all. But why wouldn’t demonic possession take place in the Vatican? Wouldn’t it be a homing beacon for anyone who would want to hurt God? It just makes the devout work that much harder to fight evil, IMOHO.

Explain to me why it’s far fetched so that I understand where you’re coming from so that I understand your perspective.

Based on this article, you conclude that this priest represents “the faithful” and the Vatican does not? Amazing.
 
Satan is the ultimate strategists. If he can gain control over people who are in leadership positions then he would gain control over those under their leadership. It’s much easier that way.

From the article, Father Amorth told La Repubblica that the devil was “pure spirit, invisible. But he manifests himself with blasphemies and afflictions in the person he possesses. He can remain hidden, or speak in different languages, transform himself or appear to be agreeable. At times he makes fun of me.”

I think he makes the mistake when he says the devil makes fun of him. He’s too proud here. It is most likely a demon manifesting himself as the Devil to Fr. Amorth. I base my opinion after reading two of his books. Not to dimish Fr Amorth’s work, but the Devil runs a risk when appearing in person (as in a spirit as he correctly says). The Devil sends demons to do his dirty work. These demons pretend they are the Devil. Enough said here…

Excorcists can be fooled by the Devil as well. Below I quote 2 leading excorcists on the Medjugorie scam.

Which excorcist is right? One has to be wrong here. Can they both be right? I’ll place by bet with Bishop Gemma. If I’m right, then Fr. Amorth also has been tricked by the Devil. I’ll repeat, IMHO, Fr. Amorth himself has been fooled. He too is under the influence of Satan.

But, I’ll support Fr Amorth’s observation of Satanic groups within the Vatican. The above article says the Fr. Amorth declares to know of the existence of Satanic sects in the Vatican where participation reaches all the way to the College of Cardinals.

A cardinal being a satanist is pretty far-fetched though, possible but unlikely.

If Medjugorie is a work of the devil, then could Cardinal Schonborn be one of those cardinals in a Satanic Group? (His recent visit to Medjugorje raised a big stink) I’m not accusing anybody, just getting you people to think and to keep watch. Remember the Devil is like a lion roaming around for someone to devour.

After the gay-sex scandal that surfaced this week, I’d say he might be right.

No one is immune from the attack of the devil. Even Jesus was attacked but he defeated him with the WORD. Jesus even prayed for Peter cause the devil asked permission to sift him.

Jesus, Peter, Paul and the other apostles were attacked by the devil. Jesus says that these attacks will come. he tells us how to be prepare and resist the devil and he will flee.

You are confusing two very different things here: attacks by the devil and demons, e.g. temptations and attacks on faith, and demonic possession. With regard to the first, you are absolutely right: the more devout the Christian, the more likely Satan and demons are to attack openly. But there are attacks from without, and easily recognized as such. Possession and control are different: they cannot happen if one is a home to the Holy Spirit, i.e. in a state of grace. To be possessed by a demon and the Holy Spirit at the same time is an absolute impossibility. Demonic possession can only occur to someone who is not in close communion with God.
Fr. Amorth is clearly talking about extreme influence and possession; therefore, if he is right, it is only because the Vatican is generally estranged from God. Which, unfortunately, is not impossible for me to believe.
 
It was an interesting article! I couldn’t find much more info on Fr. Amorth, either. I mostly came up with some interviews, book reviews and blog posts.
As for his being the “Chief Exorcist”, other places described him as ‘the Church’s leading exorcist’ or ‘most senior and experienced’.

Well, I have heard others, Fr. Corapi e.g., speak of Priests and some “in authority” who do not believe in things such as angels or hell and whose Christology may be, well, different. So, while it may not be exactly true in so many words, it may not be too far off the mark!
 
Father Amorth is worth listening to and not merely a quack like some others. One of his books has been published by the respected Catholic publisher Ignatius. His opinion on Satanic inflitration of the Church is quite possible given how the Church declined in power and genuine believers since the 60s.
