I said they can be sinful.

Being a drunk is not a venial sin by anymeans, its specifically called out as a grave sin by St Paul.
Really? Might I ask where you think this is. I do not think I have ever seen this teaching.
So if you are advocate taking the child from their natural parent(s) because they are gay, why not for the other reasons?
Natural parents can not be gay parents. One could be, but not both. But I did state that there **are **other reasons. I think this it the third time I say this.

Rom 13:13
1 Cor 5:11
1 Cor 11:21
Gal 5:21
Eph 5:18
etc, etc.

Pretty clear cut actually.

What are the other reasons to take a child from their natural parent then?

For example, my father was very verbally and emotionally abusive to my mother and her parents all while I grew up. I don’t even remember him being nice to my grandparents ever. He was very very harsh on my brother as a small child. He thought of me as his “little girl” until I turned 12. Then I was just like everyone else. The house was constantly in turmoil. He made our home a battlefield. He called my mom, my brother and me names I can’t even repeat here. Think of them, that’s what he called us. He went through what I call male-menopause when he was in his mid-30s and started doing drugs and hanging out with unsavory people. He stole money from my parents. He pulled my brother out of seminary preparatory (and high school in general) to work in a “store” that was really a front for drug trafficking and “running bad taxes”. One day, when I was 18 and studying for a final, he came home drunk and started beating on my mom, not only did I beat his a** off her, but I kicked him out of our home, and my brother made sure he didn’t come back. The next day I had an order of protection made against him for 2 years. He never set foot in our home again. I haven’t spoken to him in over 20 years. He completely screwed up me and my brother. Who wouldn’t be? So please understand that it annoys me to no end when people lament that they only had one parent growing up  It did nothing for me. She should have divorced him when she came back home from her honeymoon (and yes, she had grounds according to the teachings of the CC, and not for beating, cheating, or being a common piece of trash, because those aren’t valid reasons for the CC). As it is, a very strict and traditional priest tried to counsel them, and wound up helping her get an annullment.

Hetero parents are no more “qualified” to create a happy and stable home for a child than ANY other parent. Yes, it would be optimal to grow up in a home with a mother and a father who didn’t kill each other. It socializes the child and teaches traditional family values. But look at the statistics: it’s not happening. So why deny an adopted child a home, rather than growing up in a broken system run by the state.

**A have a friend whose sister is gay. She and her SO adopted a child from China. Who dare say that child is better off destined for a brothel in China (look at the statistics if you don’t believe me) rather than in a home with a couple who love her? Until you can solve the very immediate problem of unwanted children, please don’t deny them the only chance they have to make it in the world. Especially in parts of the world where female babies aren’t worth the ragged blanket they lay in. If you don’t want children in anything but “optimal” homes, then adopt them yourself. You’re not willing to adopt that child, stop whining about who is./**quote]

If the ss “couple” really loved the child, they wouldnt expose the child to such perverse sexuality. Your argument doesnt make much sense because you’re comparing two objectively sinful situations. Obviously in such a situation one would have to choose the less of two evils… but a child should be raised by a mother & a father… therefore we should be pushing for more hetero couples to adopt those poor chinese kids
Jesus did say " Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin it would be better if a great milestone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea". Parents are leaders, in fact they are the primary teachers in the faith of their children. A homosexual “couple” would give the children a bad example and would morally corrupt the children.

Zachary

Being single can be sinful, being a drunk is sinful, living in adultry is sinful. Or am I missing that being Gay is the only sin mentioned in the bible?
I suggest you learn your faith a bit more before you offer your 2 cents on this matter, there is nothing sinful about being single. For if being single is sinful then I am in a state of sin, as was most of the saints & even our Lord Himself… which is clearly a contradiction because our Lord is without sin.

I actually said can be, means what the intent of why they are a single parent. Intent is a major factor in morality believe it or not.

You said Being single can be sinful…now the state of being single cannot be sinful
perhaps if the single parent willingly divorced there would be sin…
but you said “being single can be sinful”…
which is much different from saying " having been divorced from your spouse (for reasons we do not know) & you are know raising your child as a single parent which can be sinful depending on the reasons you were divorced from your spouse which we know not…"

you need to be clear otherwise you will have people (like me) saying something;) (not to get you down just to help…)

I think Jermosh is talking about a single person adopting in light of the catholic view.
Are you old enough to remember the flap over that show Murphy Brown?

Rom 13:13
1 Cor 5:11
1 Cor 11:21
Gal 5:21
Eph 5:18
*Romans 13:13 let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and licentiousness, not in rivalry and jealousy. *

*1 Cor 5:11 But I now write to you not to associate with anyone named a brother, if he is immoral, greedy, an idolater, a slanderer, a drunkard, or a robber, not even to eat with such a person. *

1 Cor 11:21 Do you not have houses in which you can eat and drink? Or do you show contempt for the church of God and make those who have nothing feel ashamed? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this matter I do not praise you.

I never said is was not sinful. I said it was not a mortal sin. If one understands the Church’s teaching on mortal sin, I do not see how drunkeness can be a mortal sin. Are you familiar with the Catholic teaching on mortal sin, BTW?

What are the other reasons to take a child from their natural parent then?
I gave one example of drug users can be far enough along (as can some alcoholics) as to need removal of the children. Child abuse can also give a good cause to remove the children. If the parent were engaged in bestiality as a public life style, that would be a good cause. If the parent were a criminal that put a child at risk and exposed the child to violence and death, that would be a good cause.

Yes it can be a mortal sin. I forgot to add this in as well

1 Cor 6:10
10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

You also have the CCC:
**2290 **The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others’ safety on the road, at sea, or in the air.

It pretty clear that drinking in a excess manner is a grave act. Which is one part of what a Mortal Sin is, the Church does not have a list of mortal sins since each person is unique in that only they and God can truly know their heart. Its clearly defined in the CCC, drunkenness is a direct assault against the 5th commandment BTW.
vatican.va/archive/catechism/p3s1c1a8.htm

**1858 **Grave matter is specified by the Ten Commandments, corresponding to the answer of Jesus to the rich young man: "Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother."132 The gravity of sins is more or less great: murder is graver than theft. One must also take into account who is wronged: violence against parents is in itself graver than violence against a stranger.
**1859 **Mortal sin requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act, of its opposition to God’s law. It also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choice. Feigned ignorance and hardness of heart133 do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin.
So back up to the top, you stated that you think we should take a child from a Gay family becuase its subjecting the child to a sinful lifestyle. I fail to see why you would not also take a child from a family that drinks more then just socially as well. Either its clear cut or not. How far is your slippery slope going to go?

This was the context I put it in:
“Then why stop at Gays, take the kids from single mothers, adulters, drunks, etc, etc.”

I then went to clarify that single mothers can be sinful. Like as mentioned with Murphy Brown. Sorry if it was confusing.

Either treat sin equally or not.

Yes it can be a mortal sin.

It pretty clear that drinking in a excess manner is a grave act.
Right / wrong. It can be. Thank you.

You asked the question of me. This is why I do not like getting into question and answer dialogue with those who have their mind set. I was giving my opinion, as per the OP. Everything we do is a slippery slope to some. There is a big difference between drinking socially and drinking, as the Catechism put it, to where lives are in danger. If alcoholism is grave and is leaving a child in life-threatening situations, the yes, I think he should be removed. I see no hypocricy in doing this and not removing a child from social drinkers. As far as the homosexual thing, I have all ready said that I am not comfortable with children living with any sexual deviancy.

I think you are drawing a false dichotomy. One can not “stop at gays” and still believe that other sins are deserving of such drastic action. There is a lot of middle ground. We do not have to take your list, but can make each our own of what we think is unhealthy enough to warrant removal of children. Then through our elected leaders we can pass laws in society to reflect these values. This single mother idea that keeps being brought up is nothing but a straw man. No one but you have suggested such a thing. I think everyone else sees the difference.

So you want to use something else besides Grave sins according to the Catholic Church? Where does this list come from then? There is no strawmen since your view is really undefined, I am trying to find this line you want.

Also where does it state that the Church condones removing a child from a Gay parent specifically. Adoption yes, but that is not the issue we are discussing.

But these are putting the child in physical and neglectful risks, having a Gay parent is not either of those unless they have other issues beyond just being Gay.

Okay, exposing a child to pornography, bestiality or violence also does not put a child physically at risk, but I would remove a child from such an environment, if it was my decision.

I do not know that the Church has ever spoken on this issue. It is a fairly new problem. Homosexuality, as it gains more acceptance, gives rise to new problems.

Okay, exposing a child to **pornography, bestiality or violence **also does not put a child physically at risk, but I would remove a child from such an environment, if it was my decision.
Homosexuality should be added to the other despictable acts you mention. I agree with you. I would remove a child from all such environments.

Actually I would agree that the child could in risk of neglect or physical abuse, depending on the circumstance of course.

Actually the CCC or the bible says that in order for drinking to be a grave matter that you have to be an alcoholic or drive while under the influence. St Paul clearly states that Drunkards will not make it to heaven, just as adultery, homosexuals, etc, etc.
If you don’t want to discuss it, then fine. But I find your point to not be charitable based solely on their sexuality, especially when the Church and scripture are clear that they are in fact both grave matters and harmful to the family structure and direct sins against the Ten Commandments.

And who’s mind is really set here? Do you at least now acknowledge that being a drunkard is a grave sin?
