I was recently received into the Church. My husband was not opposed, and may join himself at some point, although he isn’t ready now. We have a two-year-old who is not baptised. I wish for him to be baptised as soon as possible, but the problem is that we have no reasonable candidate to act as a godparent. Husband has an aunt who is a practicing Catholic and she is our first choice, but she lives a long plane ride away, and we simply cannot afford to fly her down her and put her up, plus there are the issues of her having to miss work and all that. We may be able to work something out later in the year, but until then, what are our options? Can I baptise my son myself, sort of conditionally, until we can get this godparent thing worked out? I feel like every day that goes by that he is unbaptised, I am letting him down.
