Wonder what the price will be? Because Beijing wouldn’t have acquiesced unless the Vatican had agreed to some condition or another.

China’s one child policy in the past had promoted contraception and abortion. I read that they may have loosened that policy a bit.

Perhaps the Vatican didn’t have to acquiesce too much.

Beijing could use this as “proof they are not an evil nation” in the hopes of economic gain.

While I am enthusiastic on the prospect of having one Catholic Church in China as opposed to the State sanctioned and underground Catholic Church I am concerned that the Vatican may be too anxious or willing to to make a deal with the Chinese government and in the process make a “flawed” agreement.

The last article on the negotiations between China and the Vatican indicated that the Vatican was to approve all of the State sanctioned Bishops while China was going to approve of some of the underground Catholic Bishops.
