Exactly. Since this virus is new, all the research into it will give us a greater understanding of all RNA viruses. I assume the plasma is from recovered patients? Otherwise, it would seem they are giving plasma for other reasons.

Yeah. I knew you knew that stuff Patty (you said you work in a lab or have done so).

I just wanted to give more information for the lurkers who may be here and your post served as a good springboard for that.

China concealed stuff. In other news, water is wet.

I wouldn’t be surprised if China had 5 or 10 times as many people die as they ever let the world know about.

I would think Johns Hopkins would know about it before they post their statistics which show US deaths 11% of total deaths, even though US population is only 4% of the world’s population. And this is all YTD.

By contrast, US cases are 23% of the world’s cases.

John Hopkins collates data released by government agencies. They don’t have the staff to be on the ground in China or anywhere to verify their data they’re collecting. They just have to rely on these agencies to report those numbers honestly.

ProVobis . . .

Why would you think that ProVobis?

Hopkins only has what the WHO gives them. In this case via China itself.

It is a circular proposition unless you think the Chinese Communist Government is trustworthy in this area.

Johns Hopkins doesn’t somehow have a special way of knowing what’s going on in China. They rely on what China reports, just like everyplace else does.

We’re talking about a country with a very long history of concealing massive amounts of death and human rights abuse. They’ve no doubt concealed more than we’ll know for the next 20 years.

If you would like to give China the benefit of the doubt, feel free. Leopards don’t change their spots. US Intelligence is likely correct.

It is not a matter of giving the benefit of the doubt. It is about recognizing the limits of one’s knowledge, like Hopkins.

Like Hopkins, you do not have a special way of knowing what’s going on in China
Maybe not but there are plenty of dissidents out of China, there are people who have escaped the labor camps, in fact, people have sent out notes saying they are in slave camps.

Even China has an independent news voice, CAIXIN:

So, please, don’t think we are gullible enough to fall for “we don’t have a special way to know what is going on in China”,

Ever hear of Taiwan, ever hear of the HONG KONG PROTESTERS, protesting every day because they don’t want to become a part of China.

Ever hear of the Catholic Church in China?

Please, don’t give us “we don’t know” because we do.

Yes, it is about giving the benefit of the doubt. Are you actually saying we should take the word of a repressive Communist nation like CHINA? Who has exported fentanyl or fentanyl ingredients to the US that has killed Americans? That’s a good one.

Sorry, that dog don’t hunt.

They have a horrible human rights record too per anyone. Unbelievable that someone would stick up for this.

Yes, it’s unfortunate that the Democrats were obsessed with impeachment during January. Not only did Democrats do nothing positive, they were an impediment.
Despite this, President Trump has the courage to issue a travel ban on foreigners travelling from China all the way back on January 31st. Other nations followed Trump’s foresight.

And the dividends of this misguided approach couldn’t be more evident as the pandemic is sweeping our nation and we become the threat to the world.

In this thread, we are referencing US Intelligence, not personally gathered statistics.

Do you doubt that the NSA is gleaming additional info from sources and electronic surveillance methods? These are the people who tapped Angela Merkel’s phone.

I have little doubt that they are accessing all sorts of information to brief the POTOS. Such briefings already started in January. Some have suggested that it is reasonable for Trump to distrust what US Intelligence tells him; Trump has in fact praises the transparency of China on COVD-19.

But I agree that the US has had intelligence. It is clear that administration failed to act on it, and that it, now, trhough various schemes of misdirection, seeks to mask its culpability.

This is interesting that now even Schiff admits China data not trustworthy.

. . . this is among other things, a propaganda coup for China to be sending medical equipment to the United States instead of the other way around . . . – Adam Schiff

Some people here on CAF knew this (phony numbers from the communist Chinese government) was going to be the case even before China began to present “numbers”.

Schiff: ‘I Don’t Think We Can Rely on What We Hear from China’

TRENT BAKER

5 Apr 2020 Breitbart News

House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Sunday’s “Kasie DC” on MSNBC weighed in on the Chinese government’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak.

While many believe China has been a bad actor in covering up the pandemic and downplaying the severity of the virus, Schiff told host Kasie Hunt he does not think the United States can “rely” on what China is telling others regarding their death count.

“We can’t rely I think on the numbers that China’s giving out — both because I think the Chinese leadership probably wants to present their model as the successful model and given all the problems the United States is having, this is among other things, a propaganda coup for China to be sending medical equipment to the United States instead of the other way around, but also because historically when there have been viruses or other health or other problems in China, there are people that lie to the Chinese government, lie to their own government, lie to their own people because they are afraid of retribution by the officials higher up,” Schiff advised. So, I don’t think we can rely on what we hear from China.

He added the United States could not rely on other countries like Russia or Iran, who he speculated could be “misrepresenting how many people are infected.” . . . .

Thank you Adam.
