BEIJING — China, which strictly controls the church, said Thursday that Vatican opposition to the official Chinese Catholic body’s ordination of a bishop amounted to a violation of freedom of religion.

China is a totalitarian dictatorship with no real guaranteed freedoms. They’ll take your freedoms away in a snap. They don’t even have to right to criticize on freedoms.

To be more specific, the PRC regime wouldn’t know freedom of religion if it came up and bit them in the…what’s Chinese for…never mind. Need to keep it charitable.

The Chinese situation is similar to the separation of the Church of England. Totalitarian regimes dictate to the Church what is in the interest of the leader, or leaders. The losers in this, as in all things totalitarian, are the people. What I do not understand is why would any American ever buy anything made in Red China?
 
Is the Chinese government delusional or something? Oh wait, I think they’ve been delusional for a huge part of their Communist history. :(:rolleyes:

China lecturing the Vatican on Religious Freedom reminds me of the scene in Revenge of the Sith when the Emperor said to Yoda, “Your arrogance blinds you Master Yoda”! Or a pro choice Catholic lecturing pro life people on social justice!

The Holy See has never had diplomatic ties with the Marxist regime in China nor with any other Marxist regime anywhere. The Holy See has had unbroken diplomatic ties for almost a century with the Rebublic of China (whose government was based in Nanking, then Chungking and since 1949 is based in Taipei, China). Relations between the Chinese Marxists and the Holy See have been “tense” ever since the Chinese Marxists began viciously and comprehensively persecuting, murdering, gaoling and torturing innocent Catholics for their faith and trying to forcibly exert control over the Church in outrageous violation of Catholics’ religious freedom, as they have done continuously in all the territory that they have controlled for the past 80-plus years.

Theater of the absurd. The only reason for the existence of the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association is the refusal of the Chinese government to permit the Catholic Church to operate normally on Chinese soil. Many Chinese Catholics have been imprisoned and others driven underground in order to practice their faith. And the Chinese government complains about the Vatican’s remarks as an infringement of religious freedom? What a joke.

Do not mistake the actions of the government for the will of the Chinese people. I’m a new Catholic in China, and nobody here has ever given me trouble for wearing a crucifix or going to Mass. Chinese Mass here is always packed, to the point where people leave the building after communion so more people can come in…catechism classes at my church enroll about 40 new people every month. There are plenty of hardworking, upstanding people here that deserve a chance just as much as any American. They need our prayers, not our scorn.

Don’t condemn the people of an entire country just because of their government. It’s not their fault they live under an authoritarian regime.
