One expects this sort of thing in China, where the government refuses to recognize any priest or bishop in union with the pope, and insists that the only Catholics which can be recognized are those who are members of the Catholic Patriotic Association approved by the government.

Of course, there is no religious freedom in China.

One hopes that the U.S. will not go down the same path of repudiating the free exercise of religion.

The Chinese police in this case are foolish. It is not necessary to have a gravesite in order to hold a requiem service for the deceased priest. In fact, I’m sure many requiem services have already been held for him. Their actions have merely made the priest better known than he ever was before. I join with my fellow Chinese Catholics in prayer for the repose of the soul of this devoted servant of God. May God’s grace always fall upon the Church in China.

Hear,hear!
For the rest of us, its a timely reminder of what goes on in the worlds largest police state: the land of doublespeak.
