I’m not sure if this belongs in this forum, but I wasn’t sure where it would fit in.
There are two parishes within 2 miles of my house. Part of the reason that I haven’t had my sons baptized is because I need to join a parish before it can be done. However, I have issues with each church. Church A is closer, prettier and the new Monsignor is a great speaker and gives fantastic homilies. Church B has a school (which MIGHT be an issue), has lots of established ministries (ladies bible study, youth groups, stay at home mommies group, ect) AND best of all, they do the Angelus after weekday Mass. Those are the pros. They each have their cons. Church A isn’t very friendly, doesn’t have many community/ church family activies and worst of all, the deacon is so good looking that I sin in my heart. He is very active in the parish and provides much the parish counseling, adult education, ect. The cons of church B are also numerous. Church B is the church I grew up in. When mom got divorced, she and the pastor had a major fight. Also, when I was a teenager, a close family was involved in an abuse charge against one of the priests. Neither of these priests are still there, but every time I step in the door, these issues surface. The other issue is that it’s REALLY ugly. It was built in the 70’s and really looks it, with really ugly orange and yellow abstract stained glass, very abstract art-type statuary and other art. All those cons combined make it hard for me to focus on the worship. Any advice?
