This is for the single and marriage-minded among you.

Imagine you are at the supermarket to buy a bag of apples. When you first arrive, there are hundreds of apple bags. Most of them are very good apples, but you can’t decide which one to select.

So, you put off making a decision while browsing the store. Hours pass, and you still haven’t made up your mind. Finally, as the store is about to close, you go back to the apple table, but discover that the only apples remaining are bruised, dented, or spoiled. Should you pick from the remaining stock, or go without?

This story is not really about apples, but rather about selecting a spouse. If you wait too long to make up your mind, none of the remaining choices may be what will satisfy you.

Remember, making no decision is a decision itself.

Eh, that’s a really dehumanizing analogy.

But, to play along, throughout the day, you see apples that you hadn’t seen before, as there are literally a billion apples to look at. There isn’t a small number of apples that one can quickly study at a glance. Also, each apple is uniquely different in important ways. It might genuinely take a long time to find the right apple.

Many apples look good on the outside, but when you bite into them, they are actually rotten or taste rancid.

There are so many fish in the sea that there will always be a prize catch waiting to be caught.

Maybe you shouldn’t rush into apple buying if you don’t know what you’re looking for exactly. Being first isn’t always better.

Maybe…
The trick is will you have the right bait, or will your pole be in the right place at the right time? 😉
:rotfl:

That’s for dang sure…

Apples may not be a horrid analogy because there are so many different varieties, and we all seem to like different kinds.

I like crisp, tart apples - they are the best for baking in pies, IMO. (Wait, where is this metaphor headed now?)

I’d ask the owner of the store if he kept a special bag of apples aside just for you.

I don’t’ think he’s talking about applesauce. 😊

Well, the analogy is crude, and I would definitely disagree that “most are very good apples” (look around, not a lot of people out there are really spouse material right now), but I get the point and I there’s definitely something to be said for it.

I married young and I have no regrets. I joke with my husband that I got in on the ground floor of him, and he jokes that he found me in the bargain bin.

It’s not for everyone, but there are definite advantages to it.

I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull’s backside, but I’d rather take a butcher’s word for it.

I thought I was being mean by mentioning a dish that required slicing and baking in an oven. Then you bring up just mashing up the poor things. 😛
I have an apple/peeler/corer/slicer if you want to borrow it. 😉

Wish I could help you with your apples, but you see, 38 years ago I picked a peach!😉
