You are too quick to jump ahead of yourself. We must first establish if Jesus founded a Church. If he did, does that Church have Authority. If so, what authority would that CHurch have? What protections would Jesus give it?Of course, the church is the bride of Christ,or the body of Christ. It is not a particular denomination or religious organization such as the Roman Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Anglican, Methodist denominations. Do you think the Bible writes specifically about the Roman Catholic Church? If, so please help me find it. We need the lviing Christ in our lives and not necessarily a religious organization. We we believe in Christ, we become part of the living church, or the body of Christ. Do you agree?
Now, just to speed this up, he did found a Church, he gave it all the authority that he had, including the ability to forgive sins and pronounce dogma, and he promised that the Gates of Hell would not prevail against it. The Church is both invisible (Community of Believers) and visible (The City set on a hill).
Now, since we can see that he founded a Church, we must ask ourselves how many denominations did he create? the answer is NONE. Jesus founded one and only one Chuch. Any divisions in it today are not mentioned in the Bible because they did not exist then. In fact, they are all the work of men or of the devil. So, does that original Church exist? Yes. Which one is it? Simple, just trace any church back until you get to its first apperance in history. You can only follow two back: Eastern Orthodox and Catholicism. One of them must be correct. Actually, it is both.
Now, back to what you asked a couple of posts ago. What did Jesus accomplish? Salvation for all who beleive in him. However, you would be intellecutally dishonest and Scriptually foolish to say that he did not intend on founding a Church, because it is clear that he did just that. That same Church gave us Scriptures, defined the Trinity, lifted the Mosaic Laws for Gentile Converts, and instituted the Sunday worship.
Why did Jesus start a CHurch? Well, God had created a religious system for the Jews in the Old Covenant. Why would the new one be different? Also, he knew that we need the stucture that faith creates in our lives. Finally, he did it because he wanted us to remain ONE as he and the Father are one. One is spirit, one in doctrine, one in faith.
