I think God’s “elect” is referring to those who choose God… He knows from the foundation of the earth who will be with Him in heaven… but not because we don’t have a choice, rather because He exists outside of time. He is not forcing our decisions or pulling our puppet strings… but rather, he can view all of our choices and their consequences outside of our idea of “time.” He knows, because He is there, past, present and future, calling to us all to “choose” Him:)

Now… You seem to be avoiding the statement in the Bible which says Christ died for the whole “WORLD.”

Regardless of how you or I define the “elect” you cannot get around this statement.

What does it mean to you that Christ died for the whole world?
Please reference you usage of the whole world to particular passages. I am not a univeralist, nor do I believe the Catholic Chruch preaches universalism. It seems you are trying to disucss predestination and free will. These are important issues, but not as important as the subject of the person and work of Jesus Christ. Do you think non-believers will be in Heaven worshiping Jesus Christ?

I believe in the mercy of God:) None of us know who will be in heaven or hell… and all of us are held accountable for the way we treated Christ in our lives.

You missed the purpose of my questions for you...
I think that Christ ultimately DID die for the sins of every individual person in the whole world, through all of time. However, it is still up to use to CHOOSE to accept or reject His amazing gift:)
Code:
There may well be "un believers" in heaven.. God is great and merciful and has paid the price for all our sins. Perhaps, if they hold to the truth as He has revealed it in their lives, the are still holding a part of Christ. Salvation is found only in the person of Jesus Christ, and anyone who puts their faith in Him, any part of what He came to reveal, is putting their faith in Jesus (whether they understand it is HIM or not.)

That is not universalism, that is trust and faith in God's mercy. I will share the fullness of the truth as Christ revealed it to His church... and because it has been revealed to my heart, I am held accountable for what I do with it. Others in the world have not had these things revealed to their hearts, and God will hold them accountable for the truth as it was made manifest in their lives:)

Hi Ashley and other faithful Roman Catholic Christians,

Here’s a new one. Let’s co-labor together in sharing the true living Jesus Christ with Muslim Woman and the Islamic community on this site at the thread below. Muslims need the gospel and Jesus Christ too. How about it unless you believe Muslims have enough truth about Christ to be saved?

Is Christ shared through words? Is the living Christ “revealed” through debate and "knowledge? How are we commanded to bring Christ to the world?

By proclaiming His saving gospel (Romans 10). Will you share Christ alongside with me with the Islamic community on this site?

Ashley,

The Bible tells us that the gospel is foolishness and an offense to those who are perishing. I created the thread on the “Non-Catholic Religion” section. Have you even visited that thread before you declined my offer to co-labor together as a witness of Jesus Christ? It sure seems you are banking on sinners being saved with the limited incorrect knowledge that they have. Christ did not come into the world to condemn them, but to save them. You sure have some strange ideas as a Christian.

I do not believe it is within my realm to deem ANYONE “saved” or “unsaved.” It is only commanded that I share Christ with the world. That I share His truth and love. Should people remain in the limited, incorrect knowledge they have? Absolutely not! But it is the Holy Spirit who will lead them into truth… Not ashleybelle or underdog. And It is not for any of us to decide where they are in the spiritual journey and judge them for it.

I’m sorry Ashley, but I don’t think you even understand the very basics of the Christian Faith.

Well, it depends on your theology. Jesus is the eternal God with no begining or end, the 2nd person in the godhead. I believe the Old Testament Saints together with the New Testament Saints to be of the same body of Christ, thus I believe in One Church that Jesus founded.

Now, if you believe the Old Testament Church is seperate and distinct from the New Testament Church, do you now believe in two churches? Please answer my question because I answered yours.
Actually, in the Eastern Churches, both the Orthodox and those in communion with Rome celebrate feast days of the OT saints: Elijah, for example, is celebrated on July 20. In the Litany of the Saint, we name the ancient Patriarchs and Prophets

I’m sorry Ashley, but I don’t think you even understand the very basics of the Christian Faith.
That is a very bold claim, and frankly, insulting accusation.

What is it that you deem the “basics of the Christian faith” which I do not understand?

Christ and Him crucified for sinners is the very core and centrality of the Christian Faith. Why do you spend so much time with me and not Muslim Woman? Do you think Muslims know God and non-Catholic Christians do not know God?

I am replying to you, because you are the one here asking questions:) The Holy Spirit has brought you to these forums for a reason… and so long as you ask questions, I must “be prepared to give a reason for the hope that is within me.” As the BIble says!

But it makes no matter what I say, if the person is not prepared first by the Holy Spirit to HEAR truth. If muslim woman believes completely in her heart that she is following the truth, nothing any of us say to her will matter unless she is FIRST prepared the the spirit.

We are all on a spiritual journey, and only God knows our hearts. We will recognize truth, only when God deems our hearts ready to acknowledge truth.

This is the reason so many such as yourself have come to these forums and yet, never seem to understand or retain anything that is said… Because you are here with the agenda to evanglize YOUR truth, rather than actually listen or recieve what we believe.

If I go to a muslim forum, spouting Christ’s gospel, do you think that is charitable? Do you think it is God deciding to reveal truth to their hearts, or me beating them over the head with a Bible?

LOL… so you believe like me that the OT Church and NT Church consists of one body and one church. Then why do Roman Catholics claim that their church started 2,000 years ago with the confession of Peter?
Because the Catholic Church began as the Church of the New Covenant.

Soo, Judaism is the Old Covenant. Christianity is the new. Now, there was only one form of Christianity, because sinful men had not torn assunder that which God created.

Would you agree that in the Bible, there is only one form of Christianity?

But do you see the dilemma when you share with the JW organization and Mormon missionary? You have no basis of divine authority.
That’s funny. Actually Mormonism arose precisely because of the dilemma faced by 19th-century American Protestants, who had rejected the idea of an authoritative Church and had claimed that the Catholic Church was apostate, and thus had no solid basis for the interpretation of Scripture.
The Mormon missionary is telling you that the Roman Catholic Church is apostate, and God restored His church through modern day prophets. The Mormons claim that exact same thing that you are claiming.
No, actually the Mormons claim the same thing you are claiming–that the historic Church apostasized and thus cannot be trusted. They have responded to this situation by claiming (untenably) to be the restoration of the true Church. You respond to this situation by simply claiming it isn’t a problem at all.

That is the funniest thing I ever heard. It is the most uncharitable thing you can do as a Christian by holding back the gospel from those who do not know God through Jesus Christ. All I asked was to share Chrsit on a thread that I created asking Muslim who do they think Jesus Christ is. Somehow I feel that you think Christianity is desirable to those who are in the flesh.

Do you want to do what God commands you to do, or not?

Again…you and I differ in our understanding of what it means to share the gospel.

Is Jesus words on a page? Or is He living? Where do we find Christ? In the Bible only? We must not forget that every single person we encounter in this life may be Christ to us. Are we not to see the face of our Lord in the "littlest" of His creation? To give water to those who thirst..clothe the naked, feed the hungry.. Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for Me?

While you may view muslims and non Christians as lost.. I believe we are to see Christ in them and share His love... as Saint Francis said: "Preach the Gospel. Use words when necesary."
“Do you want to do what God commands you to do or not?”
You ask…
What did Jesus tell us is the greatest command?

I’m sorry underdog but I don’t think you even understand the very basics of answering a question.
Please join me in co-laboring on this thread that I created, sharing Jesus Christ with the Muslim community. Or do you believe Islam can bring you reconcilation to God without the bibliical Jesus Christ? Do you want to do the kind thing, or the comfortable thing? How you respond tells alot about how you understand Christ and Him crucified as being essential for all of us.

That is the most apostate statement that I’ve read on this forum site. You see the biblical Jesus Christ in Islam? I hope you don’t speak for the official Roman Catholic Church position. Can someone out there tell me if Catholics are called to evangelize Muslims, or do you consider them your brothers and sisters in God?
